About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- GuppeC0 contributionsGreat visitGreat visit with a good and funny / entertaining explanation the history of the ship, how is operated, the different parts of the ship. Time flew by quickly, it helps if you have a passionate guide of course.Written June 2, 2024
- doere0 contributionsVery original and very interesting . Really worth a visit .Very original and very interesting . I would advise to do the audio guide tour (all rooms, captain place,...) and the guided machinery tour. And to listen to the explanations given by the volonteers who are present to help the tourists. We spend 4 hours on the boat to see everythingWritten April 6, 2024
- pakabay0 contributionsPristine ConditionWe only viewed the SS Rotterdam from our cruise ship as we sails past slowly, but it was clear to see in the early morning light that she is superbly maintained & presented. The elegant lines of the ship are unfortunately from a bygone era - we can only wish that today’s floating resorts had some of that charm.Written May 3, 2023
- E8520EUdavidc0 contributionsA blast from the past that will rock anyone's boat.I was a guest on the ship as it now operates as a hotel. The audio tours are worth doing but the hosts bring the ship to life I spoke to two "crew members" who worked on the ship , when she was in service. Worth an afternoon or longer!.Written July 8, 2022
- kooshikac0 contributionsInteresting tourMy partner and I are seafarers and I was personally excited for this tour. It was interesting to learn how cruising back in the days was compared to nowadays. We started off on an audio tour followed by a guided one to know more about some of the original artwork present onboard. Then finished another set of audio tour to get on with a guided tour of the engine room which was pretty interesting. The tour on the bridge was nonetheless inaccurate and needs to be reformed. But the tour guides and other staff was very friendly. They did their best. Due to covid, the restaurant was closed so I was sad about that but overall it felt good to be walking on a cruise ship again as charming and beautiful as this one!Written February 4, 2021
- bunnyofdarkness0 contributionsIt'SS RotterDAMN good.We would strongly recommend visiting the SS Rotterdam and doing both the self guided and guided tours. In particular the guided tour of the engine spaces was excellent, though we think we may got very lucky with our guide who spoke impeccable English, but was also translating into German and had incredible knowledge of the systems below deck. A lot the vessel is open to the public as it now a hotel, but there were guides in a lot of the rooms which you are encouraged to visit who were more than happy to provide insight and overview. Some of the entertainment spaces were very decadent and worth a wander round. The self guided audio tour takes you round a number of spaces and decks, however we felt it lacked direction at times and signage wasn't always clear to ensure you went round in the order expected. Only down side we can think of so that isn't bad going. Don't remember the entrance ticket being overly expensive for the tour and we spent a good few of hours going round.Written August 25, 2020
- erik-pc-80 contributionsSpecial experianceSpecialy with kids this is a great hotel to stay. The will love the experiance. Beautfull boat and it has it all on board. In a very nice area with a lot of bars and restauirants closeWritten March 4, 2020
- Don C0 contributionsSelf guided tour of the SS RotterdamSomewhat expensive for an audio guided tour with a shortage of signage to the next audio receiving point. A private guided tour was even more pricey. Being that it is an active hotel certainly contributes to the interruption of the flow throughout the ship as the tour was restricted to limited areas. In fact, the elevator to the bridge wasn't functioning and anybody with mobility issues couldn't manage all of the stairwells. However, the bridge, control centre and captain's cabin was most interesting and the tour guides stationed here were very informative.Written November 25, 2019
- LOZZY20160 contributionsHans down the best ship tour we've been onWarm welcome from uniformed volunteer outside the ship welcoming us on-board The SS Rotterdam. Great value for money if exploring ships is an interest of yours. Easy to navigate self directed tour of the many decks of the ship, including the theater area and the bridge- lots of volunteers around the ship giving lots of extra information (also lots available via the multi-language audio tour) and answering any questions. We paid a little extra to go on a guided tour of the engine room. Our volunteer tour guide HANS was brilliant. He established the common language that the group of 9 people would be able to understand, this turned out to be English (Hans English was better than a native speaker!) He toured us from the old indoor swimming pool all through the 6 engine rooms. He gave lots of information regarding the equipment and how it work. Hans gave the impression he worked on the SS Rotterdam in its hay day, or a ship very similar. He was a great tour guide! Lovely experience with lots of passionate staff who were mainly volunteers and clearly loved their jobs and the SS Rotterdam.Written September 17, 2019
- EmilyB45230 contributionsPretty disappointedMy partner and I were looking forward to this tour but we didn't get a chance to enjoy it as we didn't understand the guided tour. We understand that we're in the Netherlands and people speak Dutch but one guide told us that he would not be speaking in English and that we had to just listen to the "anchor points" through the audio guide on our own and the other guide refused to speak English even though he knew we didn't understand Dutch and there weren't any "anchor points" to listen to. We left straight after the "guided tour".Written August 19, 2019
- P B0 contributionsExcellent trip to this great shipWe visited SS Rotterdam in July and took the self-guided audio tour. It was excellent. You encounter different crew members on the tour who can provide insight into what it was like to sail on the ship in its heyday. A big thank you to Amanda for spending time with us and explaining some of the amazing features and history of this great ship. If you are in Rotterdam, SS Rotterdam is a fantastic place to visit. You can enjoy a drink and food outside on the sundeck afterwards too.Written July 17, 2019
- VancouverShannon0 contributionsHee hee, my hotel!Loved it, it was my hotel and also forgot to mention the Metro station is just down the road but I chose to walk...check out the Fenix Food Fair...the Dutch and their style made it like a classy pulp fiction food fair with smoking and drinking and eating and laughing...Written June 8, 2019

- Peter_J_Aarhus0 contributionsA bit disappointingYou are not allowed to see much of the ship unless you buy a guided tour. We went there early in the day and most restaurants and bars were closed.Written May 17, 2019
- Luciano V0 contributionsOld fashion liner now moored in a dock areaI went there on a sunny afternoon. The area was quite busy as there was some sort of Sea festival going on. A spent some time of the top deck of the liner , sitting at the cafe and enjoying an apple tart and cappuccino whilst basking in the sun and refreshed by the sea breeze. I quite like it. Inside the ship there is an hotel, but I didnt really fancy to go around corridors and dining rooms.Written April 13, 2019

We did a full tour. Basically you do that with an audio device. There were also many volunteers on virtually every floor. These people have given us double pleasure with their enthusiasm and anecdotes. They really make it perfect! A very nice experience, nice to see what could already be built in the Netherlands (RDM) and what beautiful technology is in the ship. Go look too I would say

The ship is amazing but accommodation is lacking. Beds are bizarre, mattress constantly slides off which is very frustrating. Bedside lamps is fixed to table and far too close to the bed so it rattles all night and the room was unbearably hot. No fans offered.
Staff on the whole helpful apart from one very rude volunteer worker who rudely sent me away from a floor as it ‘wasn’t free’ for me to view!!
The ship itself is in the middle of nowhere.
Food in the restaurant is lovely and not too expensive.
Would recommend the ship tour.

A must visit when in rottredam, huge ship and hotel. Amazing how they maintain it, and they open for visitors to tour all different decks.
