Very informative little exhibition about life and works of Johannes Vermeer on 3 levels. One level is focusing on his works and his hometown Delft, while the other two floors take a closer look on his paintings and the aspects that make this artist special. After visiting the exhibition, I now get why Vermeer is highly reputated.
We had booked our tickets online prior to our visit. There is a garderobe for jackets and personal belongings, including free lockers for bags. The building is barrier-free, all floors can be reached using a lift as well. Restrooms are available, and of course a sourvenir shop. Can whole-heartedly recommend this activity.

This was a great experience for me. Getting to see Vermeer's entire extant works presented chronologically was very informative. The museum really enhanced my understanding of this master. Worth a visit while in Delft.

The paintings are all reproductions, which they point out to you prior to you buying your tickets, but it is still one of the most fascinating looks into how Vermeer worked.

We went to Delft with our 10-year-old granddaughter. This museum has only reproductions, but has all of Vermeer's paintings with good explanations. The house is very interesting as well. We saw a couple of Vermeer paintings at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

We spent over two hours on the three floors of the exhibition, and could have spent another easily. The exhibition left us with many questions which we have later checked, which were barely touched on in the exhibition. This exhibition left a strong impression of what Vermeer was about, and why he is (again, now) so famous. It is very hard to grasp the man himself as so very little is known.
We recommend it to anyone interested in art, but it needs time. A brief visit is unlikely to be useful, and may leave just a vague impression. I particularly like the "recreate a Vermeer" scene, were you can take a picture that tries to mimic the lighting he used, in his typical window-lighting from the left.
It is made clear before you buy tickets that they have no original Vermeer paintings, which is very right. However it is a pity that the reproductions are so unclear, quite fuzzy. I'm certain they could do with being updated using better lenses, digital manipulation and printing methods. It would be ideal if they were textured to reproduce the surface topography. I could hardly discern a brush stroke anywhere. You could often see the cracks in the painting however, which again is a question of lighting technology.
The restoration of the lady in blue reading a letter was fascinating. The film presented by the restorer in particular is remarkable, and the images there are much better.
Those questions? Well I won't spoil them with my theories, but they include, why so few works (maybe 50 or 60 max, but only 34 definite survive) ?, how did some of the light techniques come about? - there is a nice camera obscure on level 2. How did he make a living? I found many unexpected answers!
