About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- LynnV4860 contributionsNight lights are spectacularBeautiful and interesting. Our guide Lucas was an excellent captain and pointed out all the points of interest along our journey. It is a completely different view of the city from the water. We opted for the evening cruise and the lights and nightlife were a sight to see. Enjoyed some wine and beer and some light snacks like cookies were available. We left from a dock near the riks museum which required us to take a taxi across town. There are also boats that leave from dock near central station that would have been walking distance for us.Written March 23, 2025
- Y6737AUadrianb0 contributionsGreat trip.Fantastic host. Very knowledgeable and amusing. It was cold so wrap up warm. The included drinks and nibbles were great. All in all a fantastic trip.Written March 18, 2025
- MoonshineBlack0 contributionsFreezing cold.I had gone out of my way and spent more money for a boat that wasn’t open to the elements seeing as i knew it would be freezing. That didn’t matter though because we had the ONLY open air boat and it was 2/3 degrees. So I ended up paying nearly twice as much as other tours for a worse situation. Blankets were provided but you can imagine when it’s 2/3 degrees and your sat on a boat for 1.5 hours it’s gets freezing! There was a drunk woman that wouldn’t be quiet had to been told multiple times to be sit down and stop. It wasn’t what we had paid for and there were several better boats for a lot cheaper. Not happy.Written March 15, 2025
- AJC-JAC20110 contributionsFabulous experience! Excellent value for money :-)The evening canal cruise run by the team at Captain Jack Amsterdam was wonderful. We had a fabulous view of the city from the canals. The bridges were lit beautifully at night, and the city looked so different from this view. The young host Olly was very well informed and added a lot of humour to the trip. We also enjoyed the small selection of cheese, biscuits and sweets, together with the complimentary wine. We felt the experience was excellent value for money.Written March 10, 2025
- 969sukia0 contributionsFun tour but not as expectedFun tour, and friendly staff who give interesting stories and facts about Amsterdam. The boat was not open-air though, as it says in the description, and the boat did not pass the places stated in the description either.Written March 2, 2025

- kathleenmU1745WT0 contributionsDisappointing evening Cruise.Very disappointed with our evening cruise trip. We had expected an informative live guided trip by Captain Jack as booked covering the places listed and windows which we could see through but what we got was a boat with most of the windows with clear plastic which made visibility difficult and it was a boat of mixed bookings with some having wine and cheese booked.First 10 minutes was host's giving out cheese and with no information followed by some brief history on the houses and a few stories, don't know if we passed all the listed places but mainly felt like it was focused on keeping the drinks topped up.Also one host not aware that his conversation with some guests around a discussion on smoking or trying other substances for 5 minutes may not have been suitable around some younger children listening to them.Overall a very disappointing trip would avoid it.Written February 24, 2025
- Out-and-about-Wales0 contributionsOpen boat in the rain wasn't great. Step down to boat was difficult even for the mobile peopleNice relaxing experience down the river. But it was very cold and wet. The seats were wet from the rain, we were given blankets to sit on but the wet seeped through. Umbrellas were provided and drinks were served on board. Overall in the summer I am sure it would be great, but they need to consider the weather and accommodate this, material seats to sit on in the wet was not good. The step down to the boat is not practical for the less mobile personWritten February 22, 2025

- GraceToxicStar0 contributionsMagical Evening Cruise with Drinks, Snacks & Great Vibes! 🚢✨Had the best time on the Amsterdam Evening Cruise! The city looked absolutely stunning at night with all the lights reflecting on the canals—such a magical way to see Amsterdam. Our guide, Onno, was fantastic—friendly, funny, and full of interesting facts that made the trip super engaging. He kept the whole experience interactive and exciting! The drinks and Dutch bites were a great touch, making the cruise even more enjoyable. Would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Amsterdam—relaxing, beautiful, and a great way to take in the city! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Written February 11, 2025
- Craig1862200 contributionsGood cruiseGreat crusie which we really enjoyed, the guide had lots of information and our only gripe would be that you couldn't hear him alot of the time (maybe a microphone or something would help) - the tour did start late and seemed a bit unorganised at the beginning but was fine after that.Written February 9, 2025

Most of the highlights mentioned by the tour guide were discussed in length by a previous tour guide. We had an excellent experience on this canal cruise. Our guide was kind, funny and knowledgable. He broke the ice between the different groups made us all feel like one big family. I was traveling with my wife and her family (siblings and parents) and we all enjoyed the tour. The food was savory sweet snacks, nothing phenomenal but they were tasty. The drinks were bottomless as advertised, wine, beer and non alc. This tour was a highlight for everyone in our family. We sailed on a sunny day which helped but floating through the canals is the perfect way dive into Amsterdam. Our guide pushed the experience from good to great! If you don't drink alcohol then there are cheaper tours that might be a better fit but I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city.

My wife and I decided to book this cruise last minute and we were so glad we did…definitely a highlight of the trip! We lucked out with a sunny day, but it was very cold. Thankfully, the company provided blankets and the boat was covered/heated.
Our guide made sure to highlight the history of Amsterdam as we made our way along the city. Not only did we explore countless canals in a short period of time, they also provided an endless amount of Dutch drinks and snacks (Gouda, stroopwafels, cookies, beer/wine, etc.)!
I would highly recommend this canal cruise to anyone who wants to see the city from a unique lens while also filling up on delicious treats!

The trip was very nice. Our guide, Cat, was great, very knowledgeable and funny. I had a great time! I definitely recommend going around sunset so you can see the city in the sunlight, sunset, and when it’s all lit up at night.

After seeing in an article that this tour was rated as the third most highly rated experience on Trip Advisor WORLDWIDE, I quickly signed up, along with 5 friends, during a recent trip to Amsterdam. I had not done a canal tour before so to be honest I have no comparison, but this tour was a huge let down. This tour clearly states it is not a booze cruise and is meant to be educational; however, I did not feel that our guide shared much history and knowledge about the area. In addition, this one family sat near him and monopolized the conversation with him. In that situation, the guide needs to recognize he is a guide for the whole boat and look to engage with everyone else. At $45 per person, it also appeared to me that this was one of the more expensive canal tours and in my experience, not worth the price. I am hard pressed to say that this is the third best tour in the world and would not recommend that others join

A wonderful 90 mins spent meandering the waterways if Amsterdam during twilight under Catalina's brilliant guide! Fascinating city tour , wonderful hospitality on board and a fun intimate group of travellers made this a really enjoyable experience to kick start our first evening in Amsterdam. Cat expertly navigated us around the city without a single bump, all whilst imparting her knowledge of the city with her amusing stories and anecdotes, generously ensuring her passengers were suitably fed and watered via the delicious snacks, wines and beers on board, and that the group were bonding well and having a good time. Seeing Amsterdam from the water is a must during your stay, but made even more special as we watched the city gradually light up and become a twinkling scene of pure joy. Thank you Cat and thanks to our fellow passengers who helped make this a memorable experience, for sure.

Went with my girlfriend at 4PM, skipper Onno was really funny and insightful even teaching my Dutch girlfriend a lot about the city. Plenty of banter with the other passengers too.
The atmosphere was great and I would recommend a 4PM start for couples during winter months.
Unfortunately, it was raining during a lot of the trip which made it harder to see the sights but not much can be done about that and its expected for some light showers at least during December.
Plenty of Dutch snacks on board for passengers to try and plenty of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
Make sure to use the bathroom 15mins before the trip at the latest so you don't have to go the trip.

Our Amsterdam Canal Cruise with Captain Jack was an absolute highlight of our trip! The experience was made even more memorable by the exceptional Captain Lo, whose charm and expertise added a special touch to the journey.
The open-top boat was comfortable and provided stunning views of Amsterdam's iconic canals. Captain Lo's extensive knowledge of the city's history and landmarks, combined with his entertaining anecdotes, made the tour both informative and fun.
Captain Jack's company clearly prioritizes quality and customer satisfaction, and it shows. The cruise was perfectly timed, allowing us to enjoy the beautiful scenery without feeling rushed. We appreciated the small group setting, which made the experience more intimate and enjoyable.
We highly recommend Captain Jack's Canal Cruise and especially commend Captain Lo for his outstanding service. This was a five-star experience that we will cherish forever. Thank you, Captain Jack and Captain Lo, for an amazing adventure on the Amsterdam canals!

I took my family on this tour on my second and their first times in Amsterdam. Trying to see the whole country on our vacation, I wanted a relaxing way for them to see the best of the city. Our operator, Mark, was FANTASTIC. Hospitable, funny, and extremely knowledgeable. I took a similar tour through a different company a while back but would not recommend a tour other than this and certainly would not let someone I know visit Amsterdam without taking this tour.
Beer, wine, soft drinks, and water were on board alongside cheese and some Dutch cookies. Our trip focused on herengracht, oudezijds voorburgwal, the River Amstel, and princengracht.
The boat had pillows and blankets for comfort and ours was one with a very small roof in the front for 4 or so people to be protected from the wind, although this was one of few and do not expect a covered boat (in my opinion, this is better for a more immersive experience).
We took the 20:00 time slot in late April, aligning with sunset, so we got to see sights in daylight and twilight and finished the tour passing through lit-up bridges.
I cannot recommend this company or their staff enough! Their high rating is for a good reason :)

The journey through the city’s beautiful canals was both relaxing and fascinating, with stunning views and interesting stories shared by our knowledgeable guide. The boat was comfortable, and the pace was perfect for enjoying the scenery.
A special thank you to our captain, Tuen, for making the trip so enjoyable. He was not only skilled and friendly but also incredibly kind to our child, who was thrilled to have the chance to steer the boat for a bit! It was a highlight of the experience and made the ride even more special for our family.

recently went on an Amsterdam canal cruise, and it was an unforgettable experience! Our guide, Mickey, was fantastic—knowledgeable, engaging, and full of great stories about the city’s history and architecture. He made the tour both informative and fun, sharing interesting facts while keeping the atmosphere relaxed and enjoyable.
The boat was comfortable, the views were stunning, and the entire ride was smooth and scenic. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a local looking for a fresh perspective on the city, I highly recommend this cruise. If you get Mickey as your guide, you’re in for a great time!
Would definitely do it again!

No one brought any animals on board. You should ask directly to Captain Jack. Note: they provide snacks, pop, wine and beer. It’s out in the open and all space was occupied. If allowed, you would have to hold animal on your lap the entire time.
