- 266mitam0 contributions1.5 hour Rickshaw tour in AmsterdamWe took a 1.5 hour rickshaw tour with Jan. He picked us up at our hotel and took us on an wonderful informative tour of Amsterdam city! From Museum square to an old windmill, Jan showed us so many interesting things and provided the history of the buildings and locations in detail! In addition to a personable and friendly guide, Jan is a world traveler and extremely knowledgeable on many topics, so he kept us entertained all along while enjoying the city sightsWritten April 26, 2023
- honeyjos0 contributionsBest way to see AmsterdamFantastic overview of the city. We were riding on sidewalks, so up close and personal. The driver was great. He met us at our hotel, and we went next to the canals and bicycles. This is an experience not to be missed.Written September 2, 2022
- Patrick B0 contributionsINCREDIBLE EXPERIENCEI highly recommend a tour with Jan. My wife and I have just returned from a 2 hour cruise on the back of Jan's tricycle-jitney. Not only was it great to cruise the winding streets and canals, but Jan's commentary and depth of knowledge of Amsterdam made this an experience we won't soon forget.Written September 21, 2021
- Johanna V0 contributionsSo very handy!Seeing a lot without having to walk; that is for us the most ideal way of visiting a new city. We were picked up by Jan at our hotel and then he showed us the canal houses, the canals themselves, the Portuguese synagogue, Central Station etc etc. When in Amsterdam, one cannot escape the city's WWII history with so many Jews being transported to the death camps. He showed us Nieuwe Keizersgracht and with plaques on the side of the canal it was a chilling memory: per house names of people that had been transported to the death camps. We all know of Anne Frank, but there were thousands more in the same situation. No, they did not all write a book but still. Standing there is was a humbling experience. We asked him to be dropped off at the Damrak for our boattrip and that was not a problem at all. The following day we used the rickshaw more as a taxi to go to NEMO and THE LOOKOUT. Again, a very good experience; thank you very much Jan!Written June 21, 2021
- MarcieC650 contributionsThe Blooming Fields! My favorite part of the 14 day river cruise - and it was before we boarded the ship. A must see on your bucket listWritten September 3, 2019
- brunianderson0 contributionsJan was fantasticWe had a fantastic 90 min tour around Amsterdam with Jan. He was very knowledgeable and enjoyable. We really recommend him if you are in Amsterdam and would like to know more about the city and its hidden secrets and places. Linda and NickWritten May 6, 2019
- Ashley S0 contributionsFantistic tour & transportationAfter reading a lot of reviews, we contacted Jan directly via email from his website Info@amsterdam-fietstaxi.nl to set up a tour and transportation. We needed taxi services several times throughout our weekend visit and decided to break up a city tour into a few smaller segments. Jan did a fantastic job showing us the city and sites with historical and cultural significance as well as the beautiful and fun. He is very knowledgeable and the conversations were quite lively. Highly recommend!Written July 10, 2018
- melb j0 contributionsGreat close up tour on the bike paths instead of car roadsWe took the 2 hour rickshaw tour with Jan. He picked us up at our hotel and took us on an amazing and informative tour. Our cruise also gave us a bus tour, but it couldn't compare to the close up detail tour Jan took us on. Jan's tour took the bike paths instead of motor vehicle roads. We also took a canal cruise, and saw nothing new that Jan's tour didn't already show us in a more interesting way, plus Jan's tour showed a whole lot more. Highly recommended.Written June 5, 2018
- Sheila O0 contributionsGreat city tour with Jan's FietstaxiWe asked the concierge at the Hotel Ambassade (a fantastic place in the Western canals, but that is another review) to arrange a pedicab tour for three adults: me, my teenage daughter, and my 80 year old father who has trouble walking long distances. The concierge selected Jan after I told him we were particularly interested in history and architecture. Jan arrived promptly and had water at the ready for us. We chatted as we began (he has perfect English, like most Dutch), and then he began to tailor the tour to our liking. We ended up being out almost 3 hours, because we were having such a wonderful time. Jan knew so much and did not even want to charge us more than the original shorter tour price, since he said he loved the time as much as we did! It is so clear how much he enjoys showing off his wonderful city to other interested parties If you cannot log the miles necessary to really explore Amsterdam on foot (or even if you can), spend some time with Jan to explore the sites and really learn some interesting history. Note: The Jordaan has wonderful streets and gardens not accessible to the uninitiated or those touring exclusively by canal boat. Jan took us to them all! Bravo.Written July 16, 2017
- Jeremy M0 contributionsGreat way to see the city's hidden places! We booked a rickshaw tour with our guide, Jan through the viator app and he carried us around the area (including Begijnhof) and told us all about the history and current situation. He was great at explaining everything and if we had any other questions he was well enough informed to explain that to us to! Not only did he bring us to places we'd probably not have known about, there were even parts (like Begijnhof) where he parked up the rickshaw and walked you around - he grew up just 40 mins away from Amsterdam and you could really feel his genuine interest in what he was talking about! If you're planning on visiting Begijnhof, we'd definitely suggest getting in a tour of the surrounding area with Jan also, so that you don't miss the story behind it all - we were with him for just under 2 hours and it was just the right length of time! I've included a screenshot of the tour that seems like it can only be booked on Viator (which seems to be the only to book it) but it's some way affiliated with TripAdvisor so was safe to use for us 😊Written April 12, 2017
- Gordon A0 contributionsamazing trip with an individual side of amsterdamwe've been in touch with Jan by email (info@amsterdam-fietstaxi.nl) and phone (00310653481860) and agreed a pick up time at our hotel. jan arrived punctually and after a bit of smalltalk, he asked some general questions (first time in amsterdam, any special we'd like to see, anything we don't want to see, where we want to be dropped, etc.). the trip started and at all points, jan was very kind and courteaus. he explained a lot about the city and history, showed exclusive places, which we might have never found alone / a huge group can't enter. we also got some tips for great bars, restaurants and hot spots. i recommend this service and would book it at any time again, just perfect. for us, who were short of time and the first time at amsterdam, the 1.5 hours were great!Written August 10, 2015
