Amazing acting and creative ideas: the actors are great at improvising and adapting to the visitors and even the staff always stays in character, entertaining all the way through.

    Something different
Overall, a different experience. Me and my wife saw the show and we were left with a bit of mixed feelings. Here are our thoughts on the overall piece: 1) The group was way too big. - I feel like the effect would have been better with fewer people. - We (the men) barely fit in the elevator, which wasn't nice. The women had to do 2 courses. - We were moving way to slow between the rooms, and some of the effects were kinda nullified for the people in the back, cuz we could see them ahead of time 2) The room with the jump scare from the "nurse / doctors assistant" - not a fan of jump scares. They are not frightening, but rather annoying. Also, the shouting in the script felt a bit too much. 3) Actors - Outstanding performance. We really enjoyed how much effort the actors put in their personas. One of the better performances I have seen. We have only admiration for the entire crew. To sum it up - it was interesting, it was different. Amazing performance. The script can be improved. As it currently is, we think it's one of those things we are glad we tried, but we most likely won't come back and see again, unless it changes a bit.

A must if you are in Amsterdam
It is a must if you are in Amsterdam. It is not scary at all if you enter with the mindset that it is a safe experience and nothing will happen to you. It is a funny, unexpecetd and really amazing experience. There are well prepared actors who are dressed according to the show and are very good at what they do. You pass from one room to another and live a different advenure in every room. It is an interactive experience where the public(visitors) are included, and is better enjoyed if everyone plays the part according to instructions they give you. The only bad thing is that it is not allowed to take photos or videos of your own inside, but at the entrance they take some funny pictures of you that you can purchase at the end of the experience.

    Just do it!
This was a fun offbeat experience. I was accused of witchery and burned at the stake. Great fun! It was worth doing, the actors are so fun maybe a bit scary. Wink wink!

    Great experience at Amsterdam Dungeon
The attraction was absolute fun. The actors were professional, funny and scary at the same time. The interactive show was hilarious. Plus we also managed to learn about Amsterdam's history!. My 13 years old daughter was literally glowing through the entire tour. I highly recommend it!

    Amazing experience
It was an amazing experience, a little scary but not too much just perfect. The photos turned out amazing. It's great to buy them all in digital as me and my partner did. We really enjoyed our trip there, i think it was one of the greatest things we visited in Amsterdam. We loved it.

    Meh
Having been to the ones in Edinburgh, London and Berlin previously we thought we would give this one a visit whilst we were there. Once you’ve been to one or two of them then a lot of the script is very similar if not the same so was a bit boring in parts - not really the actors/staff fault as they were pretty decent at what they do. Also compared to previous ones we have visited it just felt a little duller and lacking something. If you’ve been to others then I’d probably not bother but if you haven’t then it’s maybe worth a visit.

    Amazing!
I totally loved it! My boyfriend isn’t really into scary stuff but he enjoyed it as well! It was funny and scary and we enjoyed a cup of Pop or Beer at the end. It’s an hour long and you get to do a lot as well. The characters involve you as well which makes this even better.

Disappointing Experience due to Accessibility Misinformation.
We bought our tickets for the dungeons from Madame Tussauds' ticket office, as it was 10 euros per person for those who had already visited Madame Tussauds. We asked if the dungeons were wheelchair accessible; they called to confirm and assured us it was. However, we were very disappointed to find out that we couldn't get in because we had to book 48 hours in advance and must be able to transfer to one of their chairs for the staff to lift me through certain parts of the dungeon. We requested a refund.

Went here right after the wax museum, with wife and daughter.
The people putting this down are have unreasonable expectations. This is a show. It’s entertainment. This isn’t a history lesson. It’s a full 90 minute show. Compared to Madame Tussaud, this was a far better deal. We spent a whole 40 minutes at the wax museum. This was fun entertainment. Lots of laughs. Lots of fun. Lots of jump scares. They include people. Just be sure your English is good or some other language they provide tours for. Free glass of beer at the end.

I have visited the Amsterdam Dungeons twice: Once for a friend's birthday, and once with my class as a school trip. The first time I went, it would've earned an excellent! However, the second time was the cause of the score being lowered. There were two things that stood out to me negatively, these being the steep stairs, which I hadn't been bothered by the first time, but the second time around I was struggling to keep up with the rest of the group due to being on crutches. I would recommend adding a lift so that visitors who aren't as able-bodied as the majority can still have a pleasant experience. The other thing that stood out to me was that they skipped part of the tour! At the end of the tour the first time I went, there was a bar and we had red soda that they claimed was blood or something like that, but the second time they didn't include that. It wasn't a crucial part of the tour, but I think it was rather odd that they left it out.
Aside from those things, it was an enjoyable experience. I was still just as amused as the first time I went, although I didn't really find it scary. The settings were quite realistic and impressive, and the sound effects were somewhat convincing. I appreciate their attempt to include the audience in the performances.

Hi there, nelle666! (love the name, 666 is my favourite number!) Good to hear that you've had an enjoyable experience. Sad to hear that you've survived.. that is not what we want! Just joking... or am I? Lets get serious. We are sorry that we could not meet up with your expectations. We do have a lift so people with disabilities are able to join the tour. The reason that you've missed a part of the tour is because we change our tour/shows every year. So it can happen that when you visit The Amsterdam Dungeon more than once, that you will experience a (slightly) different tour. Can you send an email to info@theamsterdamdungeon.nl with your feedback? If you do, we can try our best to meet up with your expecations next time you visit The Amsterdam Dungeon. Thank you for your review. Scary greetings, Elena

At first, when I was told I was going here with my school. I was terrified of going. I fear a lot of things including experiences in this dungeon. The surroundings were very creepy, and the music added to the experience. My favorite part which was very funny was the court scene. The lighting which was dark added to the tension along with the music and surroundings. The actors were amazing and very convincing, they even made me laugh. I would recommend this to other school trips even if they have children who are scared along for the ride as many people enjoyed it despite being scared.

It was an active, and interesting trip around the dungeons and torture of Amsterdam. The lighting was used well to create fear and created a lot of screams, as well as a lot of jumpscares in different parts of the tour. It was a little predictable though, as well as not too scary, but I would recommend going with children and younger kids.

I found The Dungeon in Amsterdam very fun and scary. There were many factors that made it scary. One of the good ones is that the actors who were there were using very loud and low voices and were not being nice. They were not saying please, sorry or thank you but they were ordering us to do something, and sometimes screamed or yelled at us. The setting was also scary because it was dark and many places included ‘dead bodies’ and in general everything looked old. It was kind of cold in there which also helped the atmosphere. What really helped were the jump scares that were there because those things were the things that really made it scary. For example, on the part where there was a story about two sisters the jump scares were really good because it was really realistic because the lady appeared out of nowhere and was making movements that really scared me. The stories that were there also made it more fun because it wasn’t just the setting and jump scares but there was also some content given to it. In conclusion, I recommend visiting the Dungeon and I would rate it as an 8 or a 9 out of 10.

My experience:

The dungeon was exiting to me. It provided a good overall view of the Dutch history, especially when torture was to be emphasised. The dungeon created fear quite efficiently as most our classmates were screaming all around!

The actors were engaging, encouraging and funny. The actors used a well oriented and prepared plan in order to create fear and tension within us. I personally did not scream, however there were several moments where I had to control my voice. Most of the horror activity was performed around me, however I wasn’t chosen as the guilty.

The overall environment exposed us to several different modes of fear, which emphasised the emotions in us, the use of light was quite efficient as the light kept turning off when some scary event was awaiting which was builder up a good amount of tension inside me.

I had realised some haunted music, themes and areas which assisted the actors in creating fear and tension inside us. The way everything was layed out was quite exiting and relevant to the situation. The actors had done quite well with the jump scares, times of silence and use of voice which resulted in creating the perfect character. The actors suited the characters they were playing as their accents were quite relevant to the environment.

The use of light was slightly overused as they constantly turned the light off. The idea of flashing light in our eyes turned out to be quite efficient as it created a sort of fade away fear or so.

Overall the experience was quite good, and it is definitely recommended to groups of friends as it is quite fun listening one another screaming.

I found the trip extremely fun and very scary. The woman at the front was nothing compared to horrifying ending. Throughout the rooms it kept on getting scarier and scarier. I found the 'characters' very good because they never broke character and had everything fully memorised. They also included the audience in their acts. I felt very involved and scared. the final act was the scariest one which made me like this place even more.

the overall experience was pretty fun, but i feel like it wasn't as scary as expected. The actors were very good and clearly knew what they were doing i also like how the tour incorporated the audience a lot. There were some times where the actors incorporated fear by having a jump-scare. But in the end it was a great experience.

Amazing place, You are taken to a tour through the building, there were a lot of surprises through the tour. I really enjoyed the tour. Most of the parts of the tour created fear and tension in the audience and gave information about the history. The last part of the tour was the most exciting part. The last part of the tour created the fear and the tension in the audience. The surroundings in the tour such as lights, sounds, and actions contributed to the experience of fear and tension. I really had the feeling that someone is actually about to die. The surroundings really contributed well to feel the experience of fear and tension. Overall, it was excellent and definitely recomend to visit.

The statement offering “skip the line” is untrue as the lady at the door had no clue as she’s said there is no fast tracking the que for the dungeons alone. The air is pretty fast anyway. So no We was not permitted to skip the line. We had to wait in it like everyone else lol. But like I say it was pretty fast to go down anyway so wasn’t a problem.
As for the experience of the dungeons itself, it was very informative and great fun as well. Lots of amateur theatrics and full of props making you feel like your back intime. Would highly recommend.
Oh and ps don’t if you do t like to be picked out the crowd to be used as a prop then best hide in the back lol

Amsterdam Dungeons was a fun experience which was scary and the actors were great, staying in character at at all times. All the staff were very good and helpful, their English was great too. Due to covid-19, social distancing was in place which I was very happy about. However, when we got to the attraction we were told that our group of 3 had to be split up due to social distancing even though we were all from the same household. For the most part we were all still in the same room together but there were a couple of parts of the tour that we got split up in which ruined our experience a bit. We were not aware of this until going to the attraction, had we known this before/during the booking process we would not have booked as we booked as a small group of 3 to experience it together, not separately. So be wary that if you’re going with 3 or more people your group will be split up and if you have an odd number of people in your group 1 person may have to do some of the tour on their own.

Thank you for your review! Nice to hear you survived! ;) In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our attraction, we indeed have an adapted tour. We always place friends / family in the same group, it may be that you have to stand / sit in a different place during the show. But you are always in the same room. If this has not been the case with you, I ask you to contact us via info@theamsterdamdungeon.nl. Thanks again for the compliment and hopefully see you in the future! Best regards, The Amsterdam Dungeon
