- runningdinosaur0 contributionsWhat an amazing way of finishing a work day :)Amazing views, the food was delicious & we even petted a cow along the way :) The guide is very friendly and keen to tell us about dutch history & culture. I have lived in the NL for 4 years now and would definitely recommend this - both for tourists or residents. There were even a couple of dutchies in the group and everyone really liked the tour!Written August 15, 2024

- 221jaymiet0 contributionsHighlight of my trip!!!!The experience was amazing!! Amazing host and love every second of it!!! I ended up being the only one on the sunset tour and it felt like a private tour where we chatted about the history of the wetlands and its something I'll remember forever 😊Written March 14, 2024

- Lagourmandise0 contributionsAmazing sights and stories just minutes away from the city and still a different worldLoved this canoe trip on a golden October day - 2 hours of blissfully quiet paddling through an amazing tranquil landscape filled with waterfowl, the occasional songbird and lots of vows and sheep. Our guide was so knowledgeable and we took enough breaks to rest the arms and learn more about the fascinating history of the Netherlands polders, water rights, ecology, and even some local apple cider and stroop waffles as a special treat. Can’t wait to be back next year when the five hour tour will be available again.Written October 10, 2023
- Elizabeth W0 contributionsA must do adventure! This was an amazing experience; our favorite night while in Amsterdam. Majel was very welcoming and knowledgeable of her village and the surrounding waterways. The picnic was delicious, fresh, local and healthy. Absolutely recommend this trip.Written August 23, 2023
- Neil_Jacob_100 contributionsPerfect way to experience a village water way within 15 minutes of Amsterdam centerThis was exactly what I was looking for. 2 hours in a canoe on the waterways of a small village just outside of Amsterdam. The host was lovely and the price was reasonable. There are no other tour providers in the area and the group is small. You truly feel like you get out of the city.Written August 3, 2023
- Discover3891000 contributionsWonderful timeAwesome weather, pretty village houses, a ton of information about the area, dams, canals and it's connection with nature. Up close encounters with curious local cows and sheep (they came to sniff our boats when we were having a break). We saw many birds and some hares and learned how windmills help canals.Written July 8, 2023
- S0j0urner3160 contributionsLovely evening in the wetlandsVery enjoyable trip to the countryside, away from the bustle of Amsterdam city. Peaceful canoe thru the wetlands and a very delicious picnic spread. Highly recommendedWritten June 12, 2023
- erin g0 contributionsAmazing tourThis tour was one of the best I’ve ever been on! Majel was a great tour guide. The tour was a relaxing, beautiful paddle though the Netherlands. We had a lovely picnic and spent time in a lovely country home.Written April 30, 2023
- SharonS3540 contributionsWhat a lovely activity this is, a burst of nature after the bustle of AmsterdamWhat a brilliant time we had with Majel. It was like being showed round by a friend. It's a truly beautiful and very interesting area and the canoes were such good fun ( note to self...I definitely need some steering practice for canoes). It was also my friend's first ever trip in a canoe and she loved it. A highly recommended trip.Written February 26, 2023
- Peder D0 contributionsA highlight of the NetherlandsThis paddle tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam! Spending a couple hours watching wildlife and getting a better sense of water management in the Netherlands was an excellent experience, even on a chilly day in February. If you get a chance, take this tour! Majel is a great guide.Written February 18, 2023
- denzilberry0 contributionsA new perspective from the waterLoved this tour, it was the perfect complement to a couple of days in the city. Majel knows what’s she’s talking about and gave some good insights into Netherlands history and ecology as we went. We spotted a lot of birds and got great views from the canals. Even with the wind, the canoeing wasn’t too much hard work and still felt relaxing. Would recommend cycling there if you can, it’s flat (of course!) and added to the experience for me. Definitely make sure you have sunscreen!Written September 1, 2022
- enorag6050 contributionsAmazing! It was an incredible experience with a lot of information given by the guide on the nature itself but also on the area. We highly recommend it, especially if you're a nature lover!Written August 21, 2022
- Julie H0 contributionsExperience not to be missedFantastic experience, would highly recommend getting out of the centre of Amsterdam to see the wetlands with Majel. She is a wonderful host with drinks at her home before and after the experience and very knowledgeable about the area and the nature within. Lots of fun canoeing despite being a novice, beautiful scenery, picnic was amazing and sun was starting to set by time we got back.Written July 17, 2022

Our favorite part of our Amsterdam trip!!
Majel is an absolutely wonderful guide. Her friendly and easy going nature, along with her knowledge and passion for the outdoors made this such a fun outing. Majel's explanation of the history and ecology of the areas we paddled through helps you understand the required water management balance that makes life in the Netherlands possible.
The small village of Watergang is incredibly cute with much of the tour in the small canals behind the neighborhood houses. The paddling is easy and Majel is very patient with inexperienced canoers. We saw all types of cows, birds, flowers and plant life. The picnic lunch was plentiful and yumm - cheeses, breads, crackers, fruits, veggies and more.
Highly recommend as a wonderful way to get out of the city for casual exploring and learning about the unique ecosystem of the Netherlands!

We were quite pleasantly surprised with the tour. We received a very warm welcome from the host, together with a nice introduction for the day ahead! The facilities and quality of boats were great!
Once we started the trip, we were well equipped and guided through the waterlands in the North of the Netherlands. The host taught us a lot about the area, the history thereof, a lot of fun facts and interesting things to realise.
The picnic was an amazing experience! She really pulled out all the stops and made it an amazing experience. There was a large variety of food and it was very delicious!
I would do this experience again, because it was a phenomenal experience. Top notch host and a great thrill-seeking, adventurous and intimate experience.

My wife and I got lucky as we were the only two people on our paddling adventure with Majel. We start out at her house in an impossibly quaint little village, and Majel explains how the Netherlands landscape was constructed and maintained, then we set out in our canoes for a close look at the natural world Amsterdam was built on, and to see first hand some of the delicately balanced water management that makes it all work. Absolutely fascinating. Also saw a bunch of cool birds!

We did the 5 hour tour with our two 8 year olds last week. This trip was a perfect day outing from Amsterdam, Marie is a knowledgeable guide, and knows the wetlands well. Pace was relaxed, and the kids even got to go swimming. She sites the wetlands well, and points out both plant and animal life, as well as the constant tradeoffs and management decisions involved in maintaining an area such as this in a densely populated area such as the Netherlands. Interesting from both a natural and a social perspective, for both kids and grownups. A great day out!

Excellent day outside Amsterdam amongst the canals. Majel was an outstanding host and guide, knowledgeable about the environment and history of the area. Especially interesting to stand on the peatland and observe how soft and spongy they are. Highly recommended

A friend of mine and i booked this last minute and got to experience such fun!
Majel our guide was not only informative but really kind and so much fun!!!!
We met her at the bus stop took 15 mins to reach our departure point.
She then took us in our boats as we rowed from canal ways. We saw ducks eggs birds cows. It was scenic and beautiful!!!!! If u bought wooden shoes do carry them with you!
You may wear anything you are comfortable in, your feet dont get wet in canoe but once you start walking in the fields.
Welcome and post departure drinks were coffee tea juice water and softdrinks.
Picnic basket was the cutest . Dont worry if you are a vegetarian :)

Not only do you get an absolutely amazing view of the wetlands on the outskirts of Amsterdam, Majel is a fountain of knowledge and builds up a fantastic history of how Amsterdam evolved with the canal structures and wetland development. We had a great day with Majel and she took brilliant care of us. Thank you so much!!

My daughter and I did this canoe trip, which was a nice peaceful break from the busy city. Majel was a terrific guide, full of interesting information about the region. The picnic lunch was delicious, and included gluten free and vegetarian options. Everything was well-organized, communication was great. You take a short bus ride to a small town and then canoe through the canals. Once of our favorite activities of our trip!

Majel was a great host and guide, Of course the day we had booked for this outdoor activity was the only rainy day on our vacation! Majel was prepared with rain gear for us and the drizzle really didn't take away from an enjoyable experience; the birds co-operated, lunch (an amazing lunch) was undercover in a bird blind and the canoeing was very easy. We learned so much about how the land has been created in the Amsterdam area; I have never moved an island before! After walking around cities and touring museums this was a really nice change.
