- 256johannesm00We saw the awesome decorations for Christmas, in the town of BaselThe tour guide took us to various places in Basel town and we saw the awesome decorations for Christmas. We also saw the oldest parish church of Basel and the Christmas Market at Barfüsserplatz. We took lots of photos during this nice tour.
- nicolak62000Great value tourReally good value tour and an opportunity to see places in Basel you perhaps wouldn’t visit. You visit 4 places to enjoy food and drink. The food court was the best where we could choose 3 tapas dishes from a choice of outlets. Would definitely recommend… only improvement would have been the opportunity to try Swiss cheese and chocolate!
- Apperley3700Fun experience in the cityFun experience in the city. This self guided tour is exactly as described. Wander at your leisure around parts of the city that perhaps you wouldn't necessarily have done, stopping to grab a drink and something to eat. At the first bakery stop we were given the rest of our instructions as well as information about the bakery itself. We chose a coffee and were given a traditional biscuit. Fascinating place with delicious looking bread, cakes and biscuits with indoor and outdoor seating. After using the small passenger ferry just along from the bridge, at the next stop we were given a choice of items to takeaway in a small glass jar. The lady serving was thoughtful and transferred our choices to paper bags for us to take back as we were flying home later. Another stroll to the third stop and we found ourselves with a delicious soft drink and three choices of tasters from various international eateries. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience as we really had no idea until the food arrived exactly what we were going to get. A final stroll took us back across the Rhine to the oldest biscuit shop where we were given a selection of biscuits to take away. A great way to find out more about the city of Basel and really nice to be able to take your own time.
- Eillyne S00skip this tournot worth the trip. the first place was an introduction to that particular area of Basil but just going there is enough to walk/tram/trin to the other 3 areas was a waste of time.
- margarete39900Fun day in BaselSpent a very enjoyable morning taking ourselves around on the food tour! We had mapped out our itinerary the night before and took the free tram to the first stop which is a bakery which gives you a cake and either coffee or tea. We chose the ice tea since it was a warm day. It was ice cold and delish! Next went to a vegan store who gave you a small jar to fill with anything you wanted-nuts, seeds, dried fruit, chocolate. We packed the jars away for a snack later and proceeded to KLARA which is a food court. Bar man was very nice ( as were most the people we met) and allowed me a cola even though technically it wasn’t in the list of drinks. Then you can go to different vendors for three different foods. I had the taco, spring roll, and bruschetta. All very good and made a tasty lunch. Last stop on the tour was jakobs bakery. Lady gave us a bag of four small cakes and also a free sample to taste. Unfortunately we weren’t impressed with lackerly and left without purchasing anything. We started around 10:30 and finished up around 1:30. Great way to see some of this town and get lunch at the same time. With Swiss prices, this was a reasonable priced breakfast/lunch.
- Sightseer6746160717400Great way to see the cityGreat little tour! We saw lots of parts of town we wouldn't have and spoke to some lovely people. Great value for money. Documentation could be better when you book, but is fine once youre on the tour. You don't need a printer for your tickets (ignore the direction that you do), and you get a map and full info about how it works and where to go at the first stop. We started at 9am and did Klara last for lunch, which worked well.
- jonathannD1540LB00Lots of little tastesThe tour was excellent, with a variety of choices at the food court stop (Klara), although the choices there were not traditional Swiss foods -- I particularly liked the falafel. It is nice to be able to go at your own pace, and none of the stops was over-crowded (we went on a Thursday).
- JJCA2500Great way to see Basel! My husband and I had one full day in Basel and looked at the options for how best to experience the city. We decided on this tour, and overall we weren't disappointed. Walking allowed us to see places and chat with people more easily. The best parts of the tour were the stops at Basel unverpackt and KLARA. We really enjoyed chatting with the knowledgeable young man on the store's efforts to support sustainable food. When we got to KLARA, only the Mexican restaurant was open in the afternoon (NOTE: many of the restaurants there are closed from 2-6pm). A blessing in disguise as those were some of the BEST tacos al pastor we have eaten (and we live in Southern California)! The one downside was the number of people smoking in Basel. We couldn't get away from the smoke walking on the streets and in the restaurants (another NOTE: if you eat inside, it doesn't always get you away from the smokers outside since the smoke blows in to the restaurant so choose your tables carefully). Regardless we would do it again.
- jenmaclean00Definitely worth doingThis was a really fun way to explore a bit of the city. The food was fantastic, the food court at Klara was especially fun. There were so many options and we walked out of there very full and happy. Definitely worth doing and well worth the price.
- Milly_b8000Well worth a visitBarbara was amazing, we were lucky that we were the only 2 on the tram so we had a personal tour. The tour takes you all through the city and gives a fantastic overview of the history of the city and Switzerland. Highly recommended.
- Michael_Kruse00Walking Guided Tour in GrossBaselI am living in the old town for 5 years, so I made the tour to discover new facets, peculiar stories, new seeings. I really benefitted from the two hours tour, and can only recommend the tour, either for first time visitors or as a brush up for your memory
- Jonagold400Only on Sunday and pay for a seat!Very good guide, even going slowly, she couldn't quite keep up with all that was being passed, and joked about telling you what we had just seen. On hold at end of 3 tram line until regular trams departed. Tram 3 will be extended to St. Louis, France in 2017. Good orientation to old, new and Klein Basel. Guide answered all questions honestly. We were only six and all in English. There are earphones provided to boost sound. 25 franc to sit, 18 to stand. It leaves from Banhoff at 10:30 & 11:45 am only. Tix from Swiss Info bureau. What was extra was noticing the perplexed looks of folks not expecting a 1920 tram to ride past them....
- Molly M00Interesting, but you don't get to see much and the heating on the seats is wonkyI liked learning interesting facts about the city of Basel, but there's only a limited amount of things you can see from the tram lines. If you want to see the city, you really should go out and walk around in it. Also, I took this tour in the winter time, and the heating on the seats was crazy. It was almost too hot to sit on them by the end of the tour.
- thebabies00Overview of the CityGood tour to get an overview to know where to further visit. Good idea to purchase tickets ahead of time to ensure a seat
- Robert L00Odd thing but fun.It is a strange an different thing to do, but it was fun. In the US there is not very much similar to this. I think of the San Francisco Cable cars and maybe that is the same thing.

We booked the tour with the expectation that it would be narrated in English. When we met our guide we learned the tour would be narrated in multiple languages. The English descriptions often times felt as though they were an afterthought. The guide oftentimes talked with those closest to him as we moved from area to area leaving those further back unsure of what was being said. Often we wondered why we were led to offbeat locations looking at random building parts.

Thomas was great. His local knowledge is exceptional with a large photo album to further illustrate his talking points. He’s lived in Basel for over 30 years and is fluent in both English and German. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone coming into Basel.

We went on this walking tour with Maureen. She did a bilingual tour and she is really good at working the two groups, one in English and one is German. I could tell her brain was tired after the two hours of back and forth languages. She is very knowledgeable and friendly and was born and raised in Basel. She took us to all of the locations as advertised and gave us a nice history lesson, along with stories about Basel. I would recommend this tour. It is always nice to be led by a guide who was raised in the area.

It’s a great walking tour with Nadia, she’s very knowledgeable, she point out the history of the City and very well laid out route she took us, I admire her for her bilingualism hubby & I was skeptical first my thought was it’s not gonna work for us but voila it works and she did it very very well and my husband enjoyed it like the previous walking tours we’ve done. we were never disappoints us. we are few in a group a diverse one I can say, it’s more intimate that way each city we visit I always signed up for a City walking tour that way I have a first hand idea what Iam looking for and where Iam going and I will keep signing up everywhere we go.

The city of Basel is rich is history and our guide pointed out helpful information. The tour was delivered in both German and English language. While the guide seemed knowledgeable, the English version was too short in comparison and lacked details that were delivered in German.

We arrived late and had to catch up with our guide, Roy Fisher, who was extremely gracious and spoke excellent English. He was very entertaining and interesting and gave us an unusual tour with a lot of intriguing information that you would not find in a guide book. A very worthwhile experience. Roy was carrying a big folder of photographs to complement and illustrate his stories. A very good way to feel that you understand the town and its history in an intimate way.

Excellent place to visit. Please don't consider buying property here or operating a business. The Code officer loses everything, and your permits take over a month sometimes for a simple deck. But, it's a wonderful place to visit. The Town Clerk is fabulous, and everyone in the tax office, planning office, and Assessing. Just that darn Code officer. He has a great staff, luckily, but he sadly is losing his memory, hearing, and causing many problems. I'm giving the Town five stars, so please don't remove my review, this is a great forum to expose my personal experience.

Tour was in German and English which made it a bit longer. I saw most of the places we went the day before just wandering the city and we didn’t visit too many places. Guide was really nice and did learn some history. A lot of walking uphill as well as downhill. I would say this tour was just ok. Would probably book a different one next time.

Our guide was Filomena, who was very interesting and excited to share her knowledge of Basel. While this tour would be the perfect introduction to Basel, we took this tour on our 4th day in Basel (it is currently only on Saturdays) and we learned so much and really enjoyed it. Highly recommend this tour.

This was our first time in Basel so we wanted to get an overview of the city of Basel since we were only here for a couple of days. We thought the price reasonable for a tour hour walking tour of the city. Honestly, we didn't expect a lot; however, our tour guide (Anna Koch) was magnificent. She not only brought a lot of information, but her sense of humor added that little bit of extra that I love in a tour guide.
I highly recommend this tour if you have 2 hours to spare.
