Tuscan Cooking with Mirella and Stefano
Our Tuscan cooking class with Mirella and Stefano was a highlight on our trip to Florence. The whole experience of going to the farmers market to choose our ingredients and then making dishes in their own home was just wonderful! Mirella perfectly accommodated for our Vegan and Vegetarian requests and taught us how to prepare some spectacular dishes! Thank you for this unique and wonderful experience! We can't wait to try them out in our own home! Linda, Sydney, and Natalie

One of my groups favorite parts of our 2 week Italy adventure!!!
Fabio and a family friend picked us up in Florence not far from where we were staying and drove us to his home in the country side. The views just driving to his home were AMAZING, and we were welcome with prosecco, fresh mozarella and bread with oil made from the olives on the property. We then began preparing our 3 course meal of homemade pasta and sauce, swordfish, cuttlefish, and apple tart. The cooking instruction was fun and informative, and we then got to sit to enjoy our food while getting to know more about Fabio and the area. This was one of our favorite parts of our entire 2 weeks spent in Italy!

    Learning to cook as Florentine
We went to Patrizia's apartment in Florence for a wonderful evening of cooking and eating. She guided us through all of the preparations for Tiramisu, fresh pasta and a delicious chicken and vegetable dish. Patrizia was delightful to spend time with and she gave us so many great tips for making fresh pasta and selecting the right ingredients. We all sat down together to enjoy the wonderful meal.

Fantastic experience our host shared a unique day, amazing cooking class, and delicious recipes. We were taken aback at their work to make the meal feel first class; the preparations and dining area beat the fanciest restaurants we dined out at on our trip.

    An Unforgettable, Amazing Experience!
AMAZING!!!! Would give this 10 stars if we could!! My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed our experience with Mirella and Stefano. It started with the both of them taking us on a tour of the Sant’Ambrogio food market, where they told us fascinating details about the market and vendors. This is where they picked up the ingredients for the menu we were to cook a bit later in the day. This market tour was a fascinating & entertaining way to start the experience! After the market, they drove us to their BEAUTIFUL home and gave us a tour of their home & lovely garden. This was such a thrill and further immersed us with Italian authenticity. We then got to cooking, during which my wife and I could not stop smiling. It started with two different forms of bruschetta, both of which turned out DELICIOUS. Then, we made handmade tagliatelle pasta with Tuscan ragu. WOW, just wow. The next thing we prepared for the menu was chicken cacciatore. Sooooo wonderful, tender, and flavorful. Finally, we prepared homemade tiramisu. It was every bit as tasty & amazing as it sounds! Throughout the food prepping and cooking, Mirella & Stefano gave us the perfect combination of talking us through it, assisting hands-on if needed, and informing us about the fascinating history behind each dish. The time passed so quickly, as we were having the time of our lives! When it came time to eat, Stefano served us each course. The food all came out INCREDIBLE and it was amongst the best meals we had throughout our entire week in Florence! Stefano & Mirella’s kindness and courtesy made us feel like we were family. This was our first full day in Italy (our first experience in all of Europe, in fact!) and we can’t stop talking about this experience. We get so welcomed & appreciated by Stefano and Mirella. We would highly recommend this experience to just about anybody, regardless of culinary interest. For all of the fascinating things you’ll learn about Tuscan food & history, you’ll also feel like you just had an amazing get-together with new friends! Thank you, Stefano & Mirella. The next time we make it out to Florence, we will absolutely sign up for another class. Oh, and one more thing: Mirella handed us a printout of our entire menu, with detailed instructions of how to prepare each item! We’ve already recreated the bruschetta with Tuscan bread, sausage & stracchino cheese - DELICIOUS!!! Grazie mille, James & Christa

    What a unique experience!
We are so thrilled we decided to do this tour. We have done many food and wine tours, but were a little apprehensive about a cooking class in a strangers home. I am so happy we stepped out of our comfort zone because we now have recipes and memories that are unique to most! Patrizia was a wonderful host with a clean, charming home in a great location. We learned a lot and are excited to attempt to replicate our dinner back home for our family and friends. We shared our dinner together at her dining table over delicious wine. Thank you Patrizia for a great time!

    Above and beyond expected experience
My husband and I had the most wonderful time with Fabio and his wife Christiane. Fabio picked us up in Florence and we had a beautiful scenic drive in the country to his home. He even stopped at an overlook so we could get out and see Florence below us. Once at their home, Fabio and Christiane we're so warm and friendly. We felt as if we were old friends. We loved hearing stories of how they met and their lives together. Fabio provided us with a welcome drink as we learned how to prepare a traditional Florentine meal. We made ricotta cheese and spinach gnudi (my personal favorite), peposo (my husband's favorite), stewed artichokes, and for dessert, castagnaccio. We were there on Valentine's day and Fabio put his own special touch on the cake to make it extra special. We stayed much longer than the tour time designated just eating, drinking, and having lovely conversation. Prior to coming, Fabio communicated frequently with us to make sure the menu he had planned was something we would enjoy and he had no trouble changing things that we were unsure of. Afterwards, he sent us the recipes so we could make them at home as well. We did so many wonderful things in Italy, but this was by far our favorite!

    Special Cooking Class with Fabio
My husband and I had a wonderful experience with Fabio and his wife, Christiane. We learned some delicious recipes, enjoyed lovely conversation, and had a spectacular dinner outside in their backyard located on a beautiful estate surrounded by the most amazing views! I highly recommend this cooking class experience. It is a highlight of our travels to Italy in July 2022! Lisa & Mike

Lovely afternoon cooking in the Florence countryside
We had such a lovely time with Fabio and his wife Christane. They welcomed us into their home located on a beautiful estate surrounded by olive trees. We learned many things while chatting away while cooking. Fabio is an enthusiastic cook and we loved learning about the different regional cuisines and local seasonal ingredients. Fabio was kind enough to accommodate my pescatarian diet as well as my husbands enjoyment of meat. We learned how to make a seafood risotto and handmade orecchiette "ear" pasta and the other pasta we made on a small gnocchi board. The seafood risotto was spectacular as well as the sauteed mushrooms in olive oil and herbs with fresh pasta and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the sausage marinara with fresh pasta. We sat at their beautiful dining table set with a tablecloth and wine glasses. We had both white wine which paired nicely with the seafood risotto and a red wine for the mushroom pasta and meat sauce. And a light and tasty apple cake for dessert that we made during our cooking experience as well. We highly recommend taking an afternoon and spending it with Fabio and Christiane. We left there with new friends and new Italian dishes we plan to make at home!

    Cooking in the Tuscan countryside
Truly the highlight of our time in Italy. We spent the afternoon with Fabio and his wife, Christiane, learning some traditional recipes including ricotta and chard stuffed ravioli and a traditional ligurian dish of salt cod with chickpeas. But the best was having an afternoon of delicious food , wine, and conversation discussing music and books in the Tuscan countryside. It felt like we were visiting old friends. Fabio provided all the recipes so that we can try again now that we have returned home.

Passion for food and the joy of cooking
The only thing that eclipsed the beautiful villa we explored and cooked in was the food itself. Constanza is incredibly knowledgeable and an excellent teacher who made sure to discuss the how and why along with the what for everything we did. It was a perfect mix of explanation, demonstration, and practice that resulted in a meal and dining experience that topped the best restaurants in Florence. My wife and I were joined with two families, one with children, and the kitchen became a wonderful community with our host accommodating us all. We left with our stomachs and hearts full and with an renewed appreciation for quality ingredients that make excellent food and the joy that should come with cooking.

Unforgettable Florentine Cooking Experience with Patrizia!
The private cooking experience with Patrizia was so memorable and full of laughs, great conversation, and traditional Florentine food. As a food and wine journalist, she provided nuanced perspective of the cuisine and even enlightened us on the rich history of the Tuscany region. Hands down, it was one of the top highlights of our trip. If you’re in Florence, you don’t want to miss out!

A night we will never forgot
We had an amazing experience with Fabio and his wife Christiane. My wife and I were traveling in Italy for 2 weeks on our honeymoon and spent a few days in Florence. We booked this cooking class with Fabio a few months in advance and he reached out ahead of time to customize the menu/food to our preferences. We ended up making homemade pasta with a white bean sauce with bacon & peppers plus a couple sides (fried zucchini and chicken rolls). Fabio is very knowledgeable and offered all sorts of insights about the ingredients, cooking tips, etc, throughout the process. We had great local wine and were greeted with a plate of local cheese when we arrived. All of the food was incredible and as good as anything we had in Italy - and it was certainly one of the most memorable overall experiences. Fabio picked us up and dropped us off in downtown Florence. They live at the top of a mountain on the outskirts of Florence and the drive was unbelievably scenic. Their house is surrounded by gardens, olive trees and all sorts of wildlife - a very authentic tuscan countryside experience. We prepared the food in the kitchen but the weather was nice so we ate at their table outside in the garden/yard. The cooking class was supposed to be from 5:00-9:00pm but we were having such a great time chatting with Fabio & Christiane after dinner that we lost track of time and ended up staying until 11:00pm. Fabio & Christiane were such amazing hosts and were not the least bit upset that we stayed that late. They are great people clearly appreciate getting to know their guests and were hospitable from beginning to end.

    Fun and delicious cooking experience!
My husband and I had a wonderful morning/afternoon visiting the market in Florence and then learning how to prepare and make three dishes (ravioli, sausage and beans, and an orange cake). Alessio was a great teacher and we feel like we can take these recipes home and recreate them. The food we made was so delicious. This was a highlight of our trip and we can’t wait to try making the food again at home.

The best meal in Tuscany that you'll make with your own two hands.
My wife and I did this for our honeymoon and it was a great time and a nice, intimate experience! We got to make a beautiful Sunday lunch from scratch that was absolutely fantastic. Would definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys cooking, great food, and a personalized experience!

I wish I could give more than 5 stars! We had an amazing time with Alessio. He taught us the skill behind making pasta and the versatility of bruschetta! Together we created and shared a meal that really demonstrated the beauty of Florentine Cuisine. He was a gracious and welcoming host. We showed up 30 mins early by accident and he immediately let us inside and got us started. If you're in Florence-- book this experience with Alessio. Ask to make his grandmother's orange cake!!

Fabio was wonderful, generous and made this a highlight of our trip to Italy. His wife Christiana joined as well and shared her delicious homemade plum chutney and shared how they cured olives from the grove outside their house.

I wish I could give them 6 stars. Thank you!

This is a total scam. We callled and emailed multiple times prior to the date of the class to no avail.

Once we received the confirmation, it was too late, as they require three days to cancel. The confirmation came past that time period .

On the confirmation, the directions are written crystal clear. They state that the studio for cooking is 5 minute car ride or 15 minute walk. There is also a fake map in the confirmation.

We had our concierge call, as we mapped this distance from the Duomo, which is as central Florence as you get, and it is a 45 minute car ride. It is almost 4km away. We are staying virtually one block from the Duomo.

We also tried to call the operator and he hung up on us and told us he speaks "little English", when confronted with this absolute lie. How can someone teach an English cooking class who self-professed speaks little to no English.

STAY AWAY FROM COOKING SPOON AND THIS TOUR AS IT IS A SCAM.

Traveling Spoon R
Dear guest, Thank you for your feedback. We are always looking to improve and appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. I am the founder of Traveling Spoon and was really surprised to receive this review. We pride ourselves in personally vetting and bringing on hosts that provide our travelers with meaningful food experiences. Alessio is one such host and has received several reviews, all of which are five-star ratings, over the past few years. I can personally attest that Alessio is a wonderful host because I myself experienced a delightful meal with him in his apartment in Florence. Alessio speaks English well and I can guarantee you that he is a real Florentine chef who delights in sharing his culture and cuisine and that this is not a scam. It sounds like you didn't receive a confirmation until you were outside the cancellation window. I looked at our records for your booking on Viator's platform and they indicate that we received your reservation request on May 17 and your experience was confirmed within 48 hours and 10 days prior to your experience date on May 29. We do apologize that there was confusion about the walking distance to Alessio's home. You also mention that you didn't trust the Google Maps link but we have double-checked it and it is an accurate link that shows Alessio's home on the map. We do not state it in the profile but I see that in the address details you received after receiving a confirmation, it states that Alessio's home is about a 15-min walk from the city center. From the Duomo which is close to where you were staying, it is about a 35-min walk. Alessio mentioned that he informed you of this during the call you had with him through your concierge the day before your experience. We recognize that the city center is not an explicit location, and while he is 15 minutes from many central city points he is further from where you were staying near the Duomo; we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and have updated Alessio's profile to be clearer about the location. We are so sorry that you weren't able to have an authentic Florentine experience with our host Alessio and hope you might give us another chance to host you in the future. Sincerely, Aashi

Traveled to Florence with my sister and nephew, where we wanted to learn how to cook the local Florentine cuisine. Alessio was great in doing so! We made three local dishes that were equally delicious and easy to follow. Can’t wait to recreate them at home.

We had a truly exceptional time cooking with Alessio on our trip to Florence!

First, logistics: Communication was easy and responses prompt, and the apartment was an easy cab ride from the city center. There is a single flight of stairs to climb; not difficult at all, but maybe worth noting for some.

Alessio's kitchen was comfortable and well-equipped, and Alessio himself was an excellent teacher and host! I was nervous about an Italian cooking class being too advanced for me, but our host made it accessible, fun, and ultimately delicious (we left STUFFED and can't wait to replicate the recipes at home!) Felt more like a relaxing evening prepping dinner with a friend than a proper stuffy cooking class. Can't recommend enough-- an excellent experience and really fantastic host!!

We recently traveled to Florence and my wife - an Italian and a great cook- wanted to take a private cooking session, my thoughts not for me, as it turned out I did most of the prep and pasta making with a terrific host Alessio in his apartment. It was what we hoped for and expected a hands on lesson with a homey relaxing atmosphere. The closest I come to cooking is a grill and I would do this again in a heartbeat in fact my new role at home is pasta making even though I am Italian a first for me. If your expecting Giada Dilaurentis and don’t want to participate save your money otherwise (there is no point!

Patrizia is amazing. We are in love! She was so charming, smart, well spoken, opinionated (in a good way!), well educated on food / Italian culture / everything, and an absolute joy to be with. The meal was amazing and we really had a wonderful time. Also, her apartment is perfectly located in Florence.
