  • Explore the Duomo’s terraces, which are normally off-limits to the public
  • Visit Brunelleschi’s dome—the Duomo’s highest vantage point
  • Learn more about the history of the Florentine landmark from your licensed guide
What to expect
This afternoon tour begins as you meet your guide at Florence’s centrally located Piazza della Repubblica. From there, it’s a speedy stroll to the Duomo. With its soaring dome designed by Brunelleschi and ornately painted walls, the cathedral is one of Florence’s most recognizable highlights. With skip-the-line access, you head straight inside. Learn from your guide about the landmark’s history, and discover the masterworks within. Next, head up the staircase and discover an area has been off-limits to most visitors for centuries: its terraces, which at more than 100 feet (30 meters) above the ground offer panoramic views overlooking the city. Take photos of the vista before climbing even higher to the top of Brunelleschi’s dome. The tour finishes inside the Duomo, though you can linger after its conclusion. Your ticket also grants you limited-time access to other Duomo complex sites, including Giotto’s Bell Tower and the Baptistry of San Giovanni.

Our tour guide was lovely and found a way to meet us after our train from Rome was quite late. She was very knowledgeable and very friendly. With respect to the Duomo, the interior was quite unimpressive relative to the opulence of many other Italian churches of this magnitude. However, the outside is magnificent. We really enjoyed seeing some of the "behind the scenes" skywalk views. The story behind the work to make the dome was incredibly impressive and well presented by our guide. Getting to the top of the dome was not easy by any means, but well worth the effort. If you have a mobility concern or perhaps aren't in the best shape, think twice. The view from the top of the dome of the Florence was absolutely worth the effort. We would recommend this trip to those who want to see stunning views of Florence, have a once in a lifetime experience, and flop down in bed when it's over!

This was an unforgettable visit located in the heart of Florence. The duration of the visit was perfect as in our tour guide Francesca Messina was very knowledgeable & gave us a good insight to the construction of this magnificent edifice. The climbing of the 500 steps was well worth the effort to see the sprawl of Florence beneath us. It was all very leisurely & well organised/co-ordinated with the Duomo staff so we had plenty of photo opportunities & time to ask questions & look around. We loved it & would definitely not hesitate recommending the tour & of course Francesca. Don’t forget to ask Francesca re. Freddie Mercury & Uventis & see her face light up 😀😀👍🌺

Great views from the top of the Duomo as well as up close views of the frescos on the climb up. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and pointed out many facts about the church, the artwork and history. Great tour but you need to be in shape for climb and unafraid of heights.

The line we skipped at 12pm was tiny. After some explanation of the church and artworks we were taken up to the Duomo.

On the way up we saw people from the line we skipped so I'm not sure what that was worth.

We were enjoying the view until we noticed the place being empty 10 mins later. It turns out the guide made an announcement on the microphone (which was breaking up most of the time due to the interference of the thick walls) and left without a headcount. Us and another couple were left behind so we made our way down. Luckily, nothing happened but if one of us fell on the steep staircase we would be helpless.

Once outside we had to contact head office to let them know that the guide lost us, and they sent her back to retrieve the radios. They had no clue we were even lost, no headcount or anything.

Very unprofessional compared to other tours we have done. And the price tag is not worth it considering we could have waited in line (not as busy during lunch) and gone up for much cheaper.

I had taken another tour of the Duomo before and it was much better. This one had potential, however it was poorly organized. The guide was knowledgeable and very sweet, but made us wait 30 minutes before we even left for the Duomo, and then another 15 minutes or so at the Duomo – waiting for people who never showed up. This cut into the amount of time the tour lasted and we felt rushed.

There are other tours available and I would suggest you take one of these. Or, demand that your tour leave on time.

Exploring the Duomo was an amazing experience. Laura was a passionate guide who combined engaging facts about art, history, and architecture while we explored the floor, inner walkways, outside terrace, and dome of the cathedral. Amazing must do experience.

The skywalk tour was amazing!! So impressive! It was the first thing we did in Florence and allowed us to have breathtaking 360 views of the city from the top of the Duomo. Super informative and fun. Loved our tour guide Frankie. Get ready for a big climb!

My wife and I had an incredible Duomo Skywalk tour with our guide Francesca. Francesca was very knowledge with great insights of Florence and construction of the Duomo. She is a Florence native who will give you great area information as well, if asked. We were the only couple on the tour and I think it added to our wonderful experience. There are a lot of steps, I think over 400, up to the top of the Duomo; my wife and I are not in marathon shape by any means. However, Francesca broke up the climb in three different parts, it was clearly doable when going up at a reasonable pace (no elevator available). On top of that, the views were pretty spectacular, at our first stop, as well as on our final stop. One gets a much better appreciation of the dome interior art and the exterior view of this iconic dome and panoramic Florence views on this tour. I believe this is a must do when visiting Florence.

At first I was afraid, I was petrified, thinking how many steps there were inside... BUT it really wasn't that bad. We went slow and paced really we'll. The 436ish steps (I lost count) was broken up in stages. First 100 then 20 min learning, 150 more steps then 20 minutes learning then some more. Next thing we knew we were at the top. When I first saw the beauty of florence my breath was taken away. You will see amazing architecture, mountains, other historic structures. We have been here 6 days, and it is by far my favorite thing we have done in Italy. Frederica was fantastic. Her English was clear, organized, and informative. I would give this tour a rating of 5 just for her expertise alone.
