About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Vassakiii0 contributionsAn Amazing Tour with a Few Bumps Along the WayFabiana, our tour guide, was absolutely fantastic. Her extensive knowledge of the history and her detailed explanations made the experience truly memorable. Everything about the tour was lovely, but be prepared—it is a long day, lasting 11 hours. We found ourselves quite exhausted during the last three hours. One issue we encountered was the driver’s reckless driving. He frequently sped up over bumps in the road, causing discomfort. In fact, my partner hit his head while seated normally on the bus. If you get car sickness (as I am), I strongly recommend sitting toward the front of the bus to minimise the impact of the rough ride.Written January 19, 2025

First, a tour is made or broken by its tour guide, and luckily for us, Julio was fantastic. We are new to these type of tours, so as you read the description, when you are warned the tour guide might be speaking in different languages, be aware that you may be listening to everything twice, in two languages. For us, it was English and French, and while that became tiring, I can't imagine how Julio felt at the end of the day.
The tour guide in Siena wasn't fantastic, but she gave us the bare highlights of the cathedral there. We talked to another couple and they also felt as if it was a little abrupt. Honestly, Julio probably would have done as good of a job, but everyone needs a break! We had very little on our own time there. San Gimignano was was the highlight of the tour for us, wish we had more time there. The lunch was adequate but not quite as good as it could have been. We had little interaction or information from the winery staff itself, and service was sort of slow, although we had quite a large group - 70?
Pisa was a disappointment, although I'm glad we went, so we can check that box. Because it was almost dark when we arrived, I think we probably had too much time there. Too late to get tickets to climb the tower or tour the cathedral (not included), and honestly, there was really nothing else to do, or eat, really. Due to the short daylight hours in December, we arrived at sunset. The timing of this tour should be adjusted to accommodate it, or just leave out Pisa in the winter. Be warned, the walk from the place the buses are required to park is a 15 minute walk to the attraction of Pisa. Through a busy, modern city at rush hour. And back. In the dark.
This tour covers so many must dos, but be warned, you are on the road longer than the cities you are visiting. Also, while you are going to all of these places on a great coach bus (with a great driver!), there is a lot of walking up and down hills and stairs. The bus cannot just pull up curbside to these amazing attractions. We had one or two people on our tour that had a difficult time keeping up. Overall, a great tour to get just a taste.

Dear stephaniewQ3442SZ,
let us thank you for having booked one of our activities and shared your experience with us and our common readers! We are really glad to notice your appreciation of our Highlights of Tuscany Day Trip, considering that this was one of the first times you joined this type of tour!
As per your review, this tour is the solution for those visitors coming to Florence and having only a limited amount of time at disposal, to visit the most famous Tuscan destinations, avoiding any stress and waste of time!
In Italy during the winter season it gets dark around 4:30 pm, for this reason it is likely that when you visit the
last places of the tour (for tours which end in the evening) it is already dark.
We hope to welcome you soon in another of our activities! Our Best Regards

My fiancé and I had an amazing experience with our tour guide Sandro and bus driver Andrea! Our guide helped to truly make the experience memorable and meaningful. He spoke Italian, English, and Spanish fluently and did the whole tour in all three to accommodate all groups/individuals on the tour. The bus was very comfortable and the day trip was a nice excursion as part of our Florence, IT stay. Our itinerary stopped in Pisa first, then lunch at a winery, Siena, and then ended the evening in San Gimignano before heading back to the pickup location. The lunch and tasting were great at the winery and the balsamic vinaigrette is a must try! We opted for the guided tour in Siena and definitely recommend adding that to your itinerary as we learned so much!
There was a lot of walking in each city so I would only recommend this excursion for those that are able to walk for an extended period of time. There was one lady on our trip that walked with a cane and she expressed how difficult/exhausting the day was for her. Our guide Sandro was great however in making sure said lady was not left behind and checked in with her often. He connected well with all the guests and At the end of the evening even called us a cab to our location so we could travel back to our hotel and waited until the last of us left before leaving. We really enjoyed spending time in all three locations. We wished we had slightly more time in the last location but that may have been due to our bus temporarily overheating and needing to pull off to let it cool down for a little. Overall, I would 10/10 recommend this excursion and our guide Sandro!

The guides were friendly, organized and informative. This trip was the first bus trip in many years bc too often other people are not disciplined to return on time . Christina and Aaron was very clear that they would only wait for 5 minutes beyond the reported departure time and kept everyone in line to be on time .They were also helpful in assisting elderly with steep inclines and assuring that all dietary restrictions were met for Vegetarians and individuals with Celiac . Very professional and energetic/ enthusiastic on their tour too. I would not hesitate to recommend this tour and the guides .

We booked this tour and was given the name only of the place to meet with no address. But it said to meet at the end of the ramp connected to the train station. We were at the train station by 7:00 because it said to be there 15 minutes early tour at 7:30. We waited for our tour guide and never saw any of them wearing blue with the Caf tour logo. We called the number several times trying to reach someone and finally got through at 7:33. She said she would call them and tell them to wait. It was 4 minutes away we ran to the location and again couldn’t find any Caf tour people. We called again at 7:40 and was told they left us. She said when she got a hold of the guide she said she wasn’t waiting. Then didn’t bother to call us back to let us know not to run to the location. They refused to refund our money. We have been on MANY tours and have never been treated so poorly. Why provide a phone number if no one is going to answer? Why do the other tour companies meet their customers at the train station and walk them to the bus location and this company doesn’t. They charged us $275.28 and provided the WORST customer service I have ever experienced!! We booked they same tour with a much better company last minute that had 3 extra seats, that said this is a common issue with Caf tours!!! He stated other tour companies wait until everyone is there and they allow up to 30 minutes to ensure their customers get the best experience. Bottom line DO NOT USE CAF TOURS!!

Good morning from Caf,
We regret reading your bad comment about our company. We had a whatsapp conversation with you and as written in the voucher that you sent us all information were clearly mentioned such as meeting time, meeting point, with exact address, and who were going to meet there. These are the information reported:
Meeting point and Check in Time: at 7:15 am Piazzale Montelungo, at the end of the ramp connecting with the train station.
An assistant waits for you wearing blue clothing with Caf Tour-Gray Line Florence logos
We received the first call from you at 7.31 (7.30 IS THE DEPARTURE OF THE TPOUR) and you said to my colleague that you were at the train station ( WRONG MEETING POINT). She tried to help you reaching the right meeting point and she advised the assistant who was at the departure to wait 10 minutes ( The maximum time that we can wait people who are late). At 7.40 you were not at the meeting point so the group had to leave.
It's not right to wait late people more than 10 minutes because there are people who are punctual that cannot suffer for the delay of other people. If you had arrived punctual, you wouldn't have waited 30 minutes people who were late.
You called again at 7.50 to advise that you arrived at the right meeting point, but it was too late. We exceptionally ( since for people who arrive late no refund is granted) proposed you to join a similar tour the day after without paying twice but you dind't accept since there wasn't the stop in Pisa.
You said that you prefer to walk 20 minutes from the meeting point to the bus stop as other companies do, but we prefer to offer a better service leaving from the same place where we meet.
Regarding the other company who claimed that there are always this kind of problems with Caf, it's not true and the proof is that there were other 20 people on the tour with the same information on the voucher and they arrived on time and at the address written in the voucher ( the same written on your voucher).THE ONLY WHO MISSED THE TOUR WERE YOU.

I was very excited for this pariticular activity, giving that I was meant to see so much in one day. But I was slightly disappointed as it was nowhere near my experience on the other tours.
Nothing I could do about the crowd but most people were a bit older and there was not many to bond with.
The tour guide was a bit tense… we had a very old American lady that was using a cane and couldn’t walk and that proved to stress Deborah (the guide) a little bit much. The old lady was happy to stay behind and let her friend to go and see the places but what I didn’t like was the fact that she wasn’t allowed to stay on the bus during the tour, that would’ve been the least they could’ve done for her. It was hot and the bus had AC. On the other hand, not sure why she would pay for such experience when she knew she won’t be able to do it with us. It felt rushed, not very informative and towards the end, the guide looked like she can’t wait to get rid of us. I do get it that she was placed in a difficult position but I can’t help to wonder, where is the kindness as we’ll all going to end up old and maybe worse. She probably did the best she could’ve done, giving the situation. Perhaps would be best if the organising companies offer packages for people with walking difficulties or who are a bit older?
Lunch was in a very nice winery but felt the prices were somehow increased for the tourists.
Too many places to see in such a short time and it wasn’t as enjoyable.
Siena tour was done by someone else, a lady that kept talking about money and we haven’t really had the time to see anything exciting.
I would say that for the money paid, it’s not worth it.

Fabiana was a wonderful guide. She was warm and welcoming from the very beginning. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she gave very clear instructions to the group and provided helpful guidance to our young family as we visited each city for the first time. Fabiana took very good care of us. As for the itinerary, the tour exposed us to some memorable, breathtaking sites (Pisa, Siena, and San G.), but we often felt rushed. Each city took our breath away, and we wanted to explore more, but this tour only allowed us to "skim the surface" of each beautiful city. For example, we did not have time to climb the Leaning Tower of Pisa, nor did we have enough time to explore the center of San G. In Siena, however, the tour allowed much more time for exploration. A guide took us through the center and gave us a tour of the cathedral, which left us in awe. If you're looking for a small taste of each city, then book this tour. If you're looking for more time in any of these cities, I'd recommend finding three separate tours that allows you to remain in each city for a day. The bus was comfortable and smooth. The views were magnificent. The lunch in San G. was inside a cool, lovely cafe, but none of the tables we placed near a window that overlooked the Chianti valley, as we envisioned. Nonetheless, the meal and wine tasting satisfied our palates. Fabiana made sure that the menu could accommodate our son's dietary needs (he is allergic to eggs -- both raw and baked). He had everything he needed and felt included in the meal. Our dining experience was family style, and we enjoyed making new friends at our table.

Dear Brendon,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are delighted to hear that you had a wonderful time with Fabiana as your guide. Her warm and welcoming demeanor, along with her fluency in both English and Spanish, undoubtedly contributes to creating memorable experiences for our guests.
We appreciate your feedback regarding the itinerary. We strive to offer a comprehensive glimpse into the beauty of Tuscany, and it's wonderful to know that you found Pisa, Siena, and San Gimignano breathtaking. We understand that the time constraints of a day tour can sometimes leave guests wishing for more time to explore each destination fully.
We're pleased that you found the bus ride comfortable and the views magnificent. It's also great to hear that the lunch in San Gimignano met your expectations, and we appreciate your understanding regarding the seating arrangements. We're glad that we could accommodate your son's dietary needs and that he felt included in the meal.
We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you on another tour in the future,
Best regards,

Our day-long tour to Pisa, Siena, and San Gimignano was excellent. Despite the long day, there was just the right amount of time spent at each location, allowing us to see and enjoy much.
Our guide Eliza was professional, knowledgeable, and very organized, which made the extensive itinerary manageable and enjoyable.
However, our main complaint concerned the transportation. The coach provided by Gray Lines was old and uncomfortably hot, reaching what felt like 40 degrees inside. Although the bus driver did his best by turning the air conditioning to maximum, it was insufficient. All of us were melting, and some elderly people on the tour appeared to be on the verge of fainting.
It is crucial for tour operators to ensure that transportation is up to standard and has functioning air conditioning, especially during the high temperatures of summer. This is essential not only for comfort but for the safety of all passengers.

Dear Customer
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about our Tuscany day trip to Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano, and Chianti.
We are delighted that you appreciated the professionalism and knowledge of our guide, Lisa, as well as the organization of the itinerary. We strive to provide an enriching and enjoyable experience, and it’s wonderful to know that these aspects were to your satisfaction.
We are truly sorry to hear that the transportation did not fully meet your expectations. We understand how crucial a comfortable journey is, especially during the hot summer months. Unfortunately, due to strict Italian regulations, we are unable to keep the air conditioning running during bus stops, which can affect the overall cooling of the vehicle. We regret any discomfort this caused during your trip.
We will certainly take your feedback into consideration to improve our future tours.

The tour takes a long time to travel and ends up getting tiring. The weather in Siena was good, but we arrived in San Geminiano almost at night, which made it difficult to have good views of the landscapes, although it was positive to see the city as empty. Excellent recommendation of stores for shopping.
Lunch at the partner winery is extremely commercial and the food itself is very reasonable. However, the experience of having lunch and tasting wine was nice.
Highlight for Sandro and Daniele, our guide and driver, who were very helpful and organized. We had a very peaceful trip.

We understand that the duration of the tour and the various stops can be quite extensive, but all the details are outlined in the itinerary under the "What to Expect" section on our online page.
We are pleased to learn that you enjoyed lunch and wine tasting as part of the same experience, we usually receive positive feedback about it.
Hoping that the above clarification meet your understanding,
Our best regards

Tour was great and the locations chosen really gave us a good experience. Really recommend coming in the early part of the year where there are less tourists. Alessia was a good guide and the wine tasting experience was really nice

Federico and Silvestre will make sure you have the best time on this tour. The reason I initially booked the tour is because I wanted to visit Pisa, Siena and also go on a wine tasting tour. This tour had all that plus a visit to San Gimignano and even included lunch in a winery. Everything about the tour was exactly what we expected and more with Federico being very helpful answering any questions, sharing fun facts about each place, and even providing suggestions on what places to visit at each location. The one word of advice to those who want to go up to the tower of Pisa is to get to the ticket office as soon as possible and get the first timed entry to go up. This way you are not rushed during your visit to the tower. Make sure you are prepared to do some shopping too because there are some great local shops with great quality products. The wines are amazing at the winery where we did the tasting and had lunch so make sure you leave space to take some wine bottles home with you! Highly recommended for couples, families (even with children), and even for those on business. The tour is a full 12 hours so be prepared for that and remember you can leave your stuff on the bus if needed. I also appreciated being able to take breaks while traveling from one city to the next. Thank you for a great tour and great memories!

Three of our group don’t drink so we don’t want the lunch option, are we free to look round the vineyard whilst everyone has lunch?

We will be staying outside of San Gimignano at a winery and then a farm (June 20 to 23/22). Is there a tour of Siena, Chianti and Pisa from that area or could we join this tour somewhere other than Florence?

Is the tour doable with crutches? Are we able to have own time to go at own pace?
Written October 6, 2019
It will be difficult to keep up with a big tour group if you're in crutches. We were allowed about an hour to roam around each town on our own. Both Siena and San Gimignano have steep uphill roads and cobblestone walks. Maybe if you join a smaller group - it will be doable and you would have longer time at each places. Hope this helps.

can we start the tour in sienna oSan Gimignano ?
we are staying in San Gimignano

We booked via Tripadvisor (CAF Tour and Travel) and tour started from Florence. Not sure if they have one that starts from San Gimignano. If you have the time and if you're driving, you're better off starting your tour from San Gimignano. Honestly, I wished we stayed there over night and dedicated at least a day at each place. Sienna is not too far from San Gimignano. It's about 45 minutes by car or an hour & 10 minutes by train from Piazzale Montemaggio. I hope this helps and have a lovely holiday.
