We took several tours in Italy this past 2 weeks and by far, our tour guide here was the best. On time, respectful, answered all the questions and provided an appropriate level of detail on the artwork, etc... A true professional.

We had a great experience with our Private Tour at the Academia Gallery. The museum is huge and filled with fabulous art. Our private guide, Giacomo walked us through in a very experienced way and made sure we saw all the highlights. He was very knowledgeable about the art and the styles and techniques of the artists. We learned so much by touring with him and by seeing the art with his explanation of the meaning. It was a great experience. We did three different private tours with Ciao Florence and all were really great. Giacomo who took us through both Academia and Ufizzi two days later was excellent.

Easy to find the meeting point, amazing tour guide! She was extremely knowledgeable and told us so many fascinating stories about the artwork and the history of Florence. Seriously, Daniella has been the best tour guide we’ve ever had (we have been touring with different companies and cruises, so we have met PLENTY of tour guides). She was flexible with us (we had a time constraint) and even got us a taxi. Seriously, this tour exceeded our expectations! So glad we booked this tour and with skip the line option we saved so.much.time!

My partner and I did this Ciao Florence tour of the Accademia this morning and were very disappointed. Among other things, the guide:

1. clearly had very little knowledge of art history and was relying on visitors having even less or no knowledge. Stopping in front of various paintings, she was only able to tell us surface level facts such as that the color red symbolizes passion and green is for hope. In another example, she stopped in front of a Stradivarius violin and literally said, "this is a very old violin made by Stradivarius".
2. blatantly stated incorrect facts, such as that "mathematical perspective was invented in Florence in 1420" when what she probably meant was that Renaissance artists in Florence (notably Brunelleschi beginning ~1420) were the first to introduce geometric and other techniques developed by ancient Greek mathematicians and already seen in Greek and Roman sculpture into two-dimensional art.
3. asked me to convert 5 meters, the approximate height of the statue of David, into feet, and, after I easily did so at her request due to my knowledge of the metric system, turned to another visitor and joked that she needed to do this because Americans do not understand the metric system.

Further, the tour was advertised as 75 minutes when in reality it was barely 45 minutes. I raise this because the tour was not cheap. However, after 45 minutes and having learned nothing, we were ready for it to end. We promptly walked back to the start of the museum and walked through it all over again, this time reading the various plaques and getting much more out of the experience.

I wish I got the name of the guide - based on other reviews, it seems like other travelers with better guides had a much better experience.

First of all, everything about our tour -- tour, guide, and museum itself -- was wonderful. Our guide was VERY knowledgeable, and went out of her way to point out unique things about the museum, including other opportunities not included in the tour. This was a thoroughly professional tour, and we highly recommend it.

Pro Tip: Search for the starting point by "CiaoFlorence" on Google Maps -- or you will have great difficulty finding it.

If you use the street address, you will have trouble because that street has TWO completely different numbering systems. Some addresses are in barely-visible faded red numbers, others are in blue, and there is no correlation whatsoever in the numbers.

Ours was a private 2 hour tour. We were very fortunate to have Julia guide us around the Gallery. Very knowledgeable, passionate, clear explanations and commentary, great friendly personality - precisely the detail and insight that we were after and much more. Thank you Julia and CIAO. We stayed for another 3 hours after formal 2 hour tour. Highly recommend.

A fortnight ago today I went to see the David principally, in the Academia, Florence . It was good to see it in the flesh, though I didn't really warm to the outsize head and hands - it was originally meant to be outside and on the roof, which was the reason these features were slightly exaggerated. I did also like some of the erotic statuary in a side gallery, before we got to the David, though some of it was mysteriously speckled, like chicken-pox!. Best of all was the woman who guided us, Alexandra, I think she was called. She gave the most wonderful, detailed narrative of Michelangelo as a man and sometimes very difficult, though utterly brilliant, artist. Worth the money, I should say.
