Our tour guide was lovely and knowledgeable. It wasn’t rushed as some reviews said so maybe they have allowed more time since. Pisa is beautiful so definitely worth it. Highly recommend adding the tower climb to - the views were breath taking!

Great tour. Guide was knowledgeable and told us interesting things. We climbed the tower which was great. Tight spiral staircase that is worn. So not good if you have mobility issues. My only negative was that I would have like more time. We had no time to look around and take photos on our own. But good way to see Pisa in an afternoon.

During a trip to Florence in the end of October, my wife, daughter, and I went on this tour. Overall it was a very good tour and we all enjoyed it, but there were some issues which travelers should be aware of. The first issue we had was in finding where to meet the bus for the tour. After booking the tour through the Viator website we received an email which gave the directions where to meet the bus for the tour as: "Central Florence, Pizzale Montelungo (Montelungo Square) in front of the street sign of Caf Tour - Gray Line." Cryptic at best. It was hard to find the location using this information and no map was provided. We finally had to ask at our hotel for directions to find the starting point. Then armed with written directions and our hotel map we set out to find the bus. Unfortunately, several of the streets we had to follow were closed due to construction work and we had to take several minor detours before eventually finding the bus. On the way back from the tour we found a much easier way to get back to our hotel by accessing the Florence train station which is very close to the tour starting point. To get to the tour bus the simplest instructions would be to go to the train station, then go to the end of track 16, exit through gate E, go down the red brick ramp and you will be on the street where the bus awaits. Walk down the street and look for your bus, Once we found the bus we settled in for a roughly 80 minute trip to Pisa. We had a very good tour guide, Gabriello, who was friendly, spoke English well, and provided a good deal of information on the areas we passed through on our way to Pisa. Once we arrived in Pisa we pulled into a parking lot where there were other buses. From the parking lot it was a relatively long walk to the Piazza dei Miracoli where the Leaning Tower, the Pisa Cathedral, and the Baptistery are located, perhaps half a mile. This doesn't seem to be mentioned in the tour overview, and on our tour there was an older couple, one of whom had a cane, who were having trouble keeping up with the group on the way back to the bus at the end of the tour. We stayed back to keep an eye on them. The walking distance should be noted in the trip information as there are pickpockets in the area and if you get separated from the group you would seem to be more vulnerable to them. Once you approach the Piazza dei Miracoli, the first thing you will see is many vendors and small restaurants. If you want a souvenir don't feel obligated to buy one here as there are many additional vendors closer to the Leaning Tower itself. Once we entered the Piazza dei Miracoli we were treated to a great view of the Leaning Tower, the Cathedral of Pisa, and the Baptistery. We were then broken into groups based on which parts of the tour you were doing. We were put in a group for people climbing the tower and touring the cathedral. We were given a slip of paper which told us our assigned time to climb the tower. We were also assigned a local guide of the Pisa sights. Our guide was a young woman who was very friendly, very funny, and spoke English well. She brought us around the sights and told us about their history. She took us into the Cathedral of Pisa which was beautiful and described features of its interior. Then she told us where to go to get our actual tickets to climb the Leaning Tower and where to store your bags when you climb the tower. Once you get your ticket you have to line up at the base of the tower 15 minutes prior to your allotted time to make the climb. You are given 30 minutes to climb the tower and return to the bottom. There is a warning that if you suffer from vertigo that you should not attempt to climb the tower. It is probably a good warning. I do not have vertigo, but as I climbed the steps I was almost getting dizzy in the beginning, most likely because although the tower is leaning your brain is trying to tell you that you are climbing straight up. There are 297 steps in the tower and many of them are well worn down. As you climb and descend the steps people will be passing you and when you get near the top there is not always a lot of space to get by. Once you exit the tower at the top there are two fenced in levels, with the upper level being an open roofed bell tower with several bells in it. From the top of the tower you can also get some very beautiful views of the town of Pisa and the tops of the Cathedral of Pisa and the Baptistery. We were there at sunset and it was a sight to behold with the red sun dropping to the horizon. Once we descended the tower we had a short amount of time to shop for souvenirs, or visit the restroom before it was time to meet up with Gabriello and return to the bus which took us back to Florence. It should be noted that there is a charge of .80 euros to use the restrooms and there were none on the bus that took us to and from Pisa, so make sure to bring some money for that. Also be warned that the sidewalks between the bus parking area and the Piazza dei Miracoli are not completely smooth, so it is wise to watch your step, especially in the dark. We saw one individual almost turn their ankle and fall after stepping into a depression on one part of the sidewalk. All in all this was a very good tour and we strongly recommend it if you have the time while you are staying in Florence.

This was the largest tour group I've ever been on (double decker coach) and, as such, most of the 'tour' was about logistics (times, groups, meeting points) rather than the insightful information I've come to expect and pay for. Pisa was definitely worth visiting, and seemed a pleasant town, although there wasn't time to to explore. With hindsight, it would have been better to get a train from Florence (which appears to take about the same amount of time) and book my own timed ticket for the tower (which is only €18 online). Being given tower tickets that coincided with the sunset was a treat, there just wasn't time to savour it because we had to rush back to meet the tour. Three hours travelling on the coach, 20 minutes to walk up and down the tower and take photos. All guides were polite and friendly though.

Out of all the tours we booked this was nowhere close to the others in value or quality. We booked through Viator which we used for other tours, no issues there. The coach was easy to find, left on time, instructions were clear on meeting points and schedule. However for the price of this tour you basically get a 1-1/2 hour bus ride there and 2 hour bus ride back (Florence rush hour). You spend about 2 hours in Pisa. Climbing the tower is the highlight, which takes about 45 minutes or more of the time. Not a real long lineup, stairs are not too bad, we had a 9 year old climb no issue. The tour itself is quick and difficult to hear with the equipment and one earpiece? All other tours we went on had much better quality headphones. There are basically four attractions at Pisa, the tower, bapistry, cathedral, and crypt (graveyard). Only the tower and cathedral entry tickets are included which is very disappointing. The cathedral is 90% of the tour. Why not include the other two and start the tour a bit ealier in the day? Pisa is great and definitely a checklist item, but save your money and rent a car for the day. See Pisa and Siena for a fraction of the cost. Guide is not worth it for this tour.

Picking up the coach was no problem and the views travelling from Central Florence to Pisa were stunning. When you arrive, you are taken on a 10 minute brisk walk from the coach park to where the tower, church and baptistery are. If you have any walking problems, it would be hard to keep up. When you get there you have a guide and given earphones, which you need as the crowds, are noisy. After the tour you are given 3/4 of an hour to explore on your own. It was then that you found out that the ticket time is for 5.00 O'clock and you had to be back at the pickup point at 5.30. We said at the time that 1/2 an hour is not long enough. Although we had skip the line tickets for 5.00, you still had to join the queue. When all the 5 o'clockers had been scanned with the metal detector, we eventually got into the tower at 5.05. The steps are very slippery, so you can't rush. We only spent 5 minutes at the top and because of the time we had to start down sooner than we would have wished. Also, you cannot take any bags up. Only cameras and phones, therefore, you have to put all bags into the store room. We had left our back pack on the coach but we had bought a couple of souvenirs. These had to go into the store room. When we went to pick them up it was 5.35 so my husband went to the pickup point to let the guide know the situation. The guide had already left!! We then had to fine our own way back to the coach park. As we entered the coach park, the coach was just pulling out so picked us up. If we had been 30 seconds later we would have been left behind. Not only were our bags on the coach, the guide had my mobile number and never rang to see what was up. One of us could have had a fall and he just left us!!! If we had to have paid for the train fare to get us back to Central Florence, would we have been reimbursed? I think not. We have been on a lot of coach tours and never been so shabbily treated. We would NOT recommend this trip.

Jul 2018 • Couples
My husband and I took this tour in July. I booked it because I liked the option of taking a bus to and from Florence rather than having to take the train to Pisa. This was a convenient way to tour, the bus was large with two decks but was a little warm. Eventually the air conditioning seemed to kick in. One note, there are no bathrooms on this bus, but we did make one stop shortly before arriving to Pisa to use the restrooms free of charge. There was a guide on the bus who gave us a bit of information as we travelled to Pisa and he gave very clear instructions about meeting points and times. He also escorted us to and from the bus as busses have to park about ten minutes or so from the actual site. Our guide was sweet but her English was not very good, so we didn't understand much she said, and she didn't understand our questions very well either. The church was beautiful, it would have been great to also visit the baptistry but I am not sure if that was allowed. The skip the line part of the Pisa tower was awesome. We climbed all the way to the top and saw the bell ringing. This was an amazing part of the experience, but is unguided, which I also like as it gave us a bit of time to enjoy the view, the breeze and take several pictures. One note, the steps to the top are made of marble and can be a bit slippery, so make sure the soles of your shoes can accommodate this surface. It's a little daunting going up and down without hand rails. It would have been nice if the bus could have been cooled down for us once we got back on the bus, but it had not been and there was little air moving for the middle of July. At the end the guide on the bus said tips were appreciated for he and the driver. It was the only time in Italy we didn't tip our guides as he really did nothing special for us and we didn't feel anything on this tour merited a tip. In conclusion, the convenience of the bus ride is nice, but the guides are not the best here.

Dear Travelmom723, let us thank you for having booked one of our tours and shared your experience with us and our common readers! Let us expand on the points stressed in your review: - the Tour that you booked really represents the best and most effortless way to get to Pisa from Florence, without any stress and at the best value for money. Considering the Leaning Tower, the train station is located in fact at the opposite side of the city center, at about 20-25 minutes by walk. Thanks to our Excursion, you'll be able to reach Pisa comfortably seated on our GT Bus, led by our Tour Leader who will provide you interesting information to introduce you to the city along the way, before to escort you up to the heart of the city center once arrived, where you'll meet your local guide; - the guided tour of Pisa includes the priority admission inside the wonderful Cathedral and a comprehensive discovery of the stunning Miracle square. The entrance to the Baptistery is not included and you are free to visit it on your own, during your free time. - the prebooked ticket to the Leaning Tower allows you to access to such a unique monument, one of the seven wonders of the world, without any stress and waste of time, to live a real once-in-a-lifetime experience! - all our professional guides are working with us since many years and they are constantly trained and subject to quality tests. Unfortunately, not having further details regarding the date of your tour, it is not possible for us to carry on further inspections about the local guide who provided your tour; - the reason why the bus wasn't completely cool at the departure, is due to the fact that buses are not allowed to leave the engine on, when they are parked. This means that before to depart from Florence and from Pisa, the engine (and the air-conditioning system), have to be turned off and during particulartly warm days, the bus might take a little more to completely cool up. Our Best Regards

Took this with a family of four. Things to understand:
- You find the bus to Pisa at the Florence train station
- The Bus parking in Pisa is a 5+ minute walk to the Pisa Cathedral (which includes the leaning tower)
- You leave Florence at 1:30pm and arrive at the Square of Miracles around 3pm. The tour departs Pisa at 5:30pm (so you have 2.5 hours on site)
- A train ticket from Florence to Pisa is 11 or 12 Euros, round trip per person will be at most 24 Euros. The Cost to enter the Pisa attractions is 26 Euros (only 8 if you don't climb the tower). You can do the whole thing yourself for 50 Euros or about $62 USD
- Its a 15 minute walk from the Pisa train station to the Square of Miracles
- The train takes less than 60 minutes one way (the bus takes 90 minutes one way)
- If you book this yourself, you can spend more time at the attractions if you want

Compared to booking myself, I paid $20 more per person, got less time in Pisa than I hoped for and didn't get to see all the building in the Square of Miracles (and we had to stand outside in the rain because the tour had a set time for entry into one of the buildings). The guide on the bus was very pleasant, and very efficient. Didn't add much to the bus ride. The guide at Pisa wasn't bad, but she wasn't memorable either

If I were to do this again, I'd save the $20/person and book this myself. True, I would have done 20 more minutes of walking (or had to pay for a Taxi)

This is a nice trip. You are taken by a comfortable bus from the train station at Florence to Pisa. After that it is a bit of a walk (10-15 mins) to the main landmarks at Pisa. There you are met by a local guide and headphones are distributed so you can hear the guide in the large crowds.

Our guide, Claudia was very informative and friendly. Group was around 20-25 people which was manageable. We started with a tour around the main sites in Pisa and entered the Basilica where we spent some time. After that, we have time to go up to the tower and spend no more than an hour of free time.

You can do this trip on your own if you buy a return train ticket to Pisa and book ahead tickets to the basilica and the leaning tower. It would cost you roughly 40-50 EUR instead of this 75 EUR. You would also be able to do it at your own pace. Personally, I thought the time spent at Pisa was adequate. But some people could want to take it more slowly. I also enjoyed the explanation given by the guide.

Ultimately, you should decide if having a nice guided tour is worth the extra 25 EUR. If you just want to see the leaning tower and take some pictures, then definitely just do it on your own and book the leaning tower ahead. You will save money and be free to do it at your own pace. Otherwise, if you like to understand the history behind what you're looking at then this tour is a good choice.

Dear Karim, let us thank you for having booked one of our activities and shared your experience with us and our common readers! First of all, we are really glad to see that you enjoyed our Excursion to Pisa through the Tuscan countryside, with Leaning Tower skip-the-line tickets and your review is for us matter of great pride. With reference to the useful tips that you gave to our common readers, comparing the tour done with an independent trip to Pisa by train, we use the occasion to highlight the following considerations: 1 - the train station in Pisa is located at the opposite side of the city center, from the main monuments, around 2 miles away and far more than 20 minutes by walk (which means 4 miles and more than 40 minutes to walk); additionally, a train ride to Pisa from Florence, takes from 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes, which means than simply to get to the Leaning Tower from Florence and return, you need to consider between 3 and 4 hours; 2 - the tour that you booked includes: the assistance at the meeting point, the round transportation with GT Bus, a multilingual tour escort at your side on board and in Pisa, a professional local guide in Pisa, the access to Pisa Cathedral, earphones for the guided tour in Pisa, the admission ticket to the Leaning Tower with advanced booking and skip-the-line entrance (allowing you to avoid any queue, including the one to simply collect the pre-booked ticket at the ticket office); 3 - decide to do everything on your own will entail higher efforts and stress, to arrange the whole experience, in a city where the most of our customers have never been before, for a very small price difference; 4 - furthermore, we also need to remind that our Company offers as well to our customers, two additional options of the same tour. - One without the Leaning Tower ticket (perfect for those who are not interested in climbing the Tower and prefer to have more free time at their disposal) - A semi-independent one without the local guide, in order to have only free time at disposal and enjoy the most independent experience, without any stress, thanks to the comfortable transportation by GT Bus and our Tour Leader management of the tour. All this, at the price of 35€, which is so much cheaper than taking a train from Florence and having to arrange everything on your own! Lower price, less stress, more fun and comfort! We hope to have the chance to welcome you soon again in Florence and Tuscany! Our Best Regards

It's true what some reviewers have said that you could sort this trip out for yourself a little cheaper (getting your own train or bus tickets, getting tickets to climb the tower etc) bug that way you have to plan it all yourself and don't get a guide. When it is your first time in Florence and Pisa it is sometimes worth paying a little more for the convenience. Our guide was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip....wd especially wanted to climb the tower on my partners 60th birthday which we did! We'd have liked more time in the cathedral but the tower tickets are times so we had to rush in order to make our slot.....neved mind......I'm sure we'll be back.

Dear Derrick, let us thank you for having booked one of our activities and shared your experience with us and our common readers! We are so glad to see that you enjoyed our Excursion to Pisa from Florence, evaluating the additional value guaranteed by booking an organized excursion provided by an historical local Tour Operator, compared to simply get a train and book the tickets to climb the tower. We use the occasion to remind that booking our excursion ensures you: - our Assistance at the departure point; - a comfortable round transportation provided by air-conditioned GT Bus, with a drop-off location closer to Miracle square than Pisa train station; - a professional tour leader at your side, providing useful information and always ready to assist you for any need; - a professional local guide in Pisa; - the priority access to Pisa Cathedral; - the access to the Leaning Tower, with pre-booked ticket - if option is selected (find an available ticket to climb the Leaning Tower once in Pisa, can be really hard). We hope to have the chance to welcome you soon again in Florence and Tuscany! Best Regards
