        Just what I asked for!
Mark guided me for four days of road bike riding in Tuscany and they were the highlight of a two week vacation to Italy. I asked for 80-100km routes with 800 to 1,500 meters of climbing and that is exactly what I got. Plus, we rode north one day, south another, as well as east and west. It was warm every day, but the day that it got really hot (99 Fahrenheit), we managed to spend a lot of the time in the shade and kept running into water fountains to refill water bottles and wet our heads! We also managed to stop for espresso and pastries every hour and a half, as requested. Long way to say that Mark really knows the area well and prides himself on different roads (and pastries) each day!

Riding with Mark exceeded my expectations
Riding through Florence and into the Chianti region was thrilling. We rode through small towns and up and down through the valleys. Half was through we stopped for a coffee and pastry. Every vista was beautiful. I rented a bike from Florence by bike. The bike handled great and the staff was professional and friendly. Thanks for a memorable ride Mark!

        Tuscan Hill Towns
We had a great day out with Mark at the beginning of July. We eschewed the more popular Chianti countryside in favour of a ride through several beautiful Tuscan villages to the west of Florence (I think!) and we were not disappointed. We passed through some beautiful countryside - field after field of vines and sunflowers. The ride was relatively challenging but might have been a little easier had we been on road bikes rather than hybrids! Mark was a fabulous guide, taking us out of the city on roads we would never have found ourselves. When we return to Florence, we'll definitely be asking Mark to take us out again. Maybe we'll do the ride though Chianti next time...

        Great ride
I'm a keen cyclist but had never cycled in Italy. Mark did a great job showing me round the Tuscan hills and matching the ride to my ability. We did a great 100k loop. He also advised on where and how to get a good bike rental. All in all a great day out and outstanding value for money

        A dream riding experience
I don't always write tripadvisor reviews, but I felt that I had to share what a great experience I had riding with Mark. He made the entire process incredible easy and convenient. He helped me coordinate with the bike shop to rent my bike, explained to me everything I needed to do and bring, and was there at 9am sharp to meet me to ride. We had a great day riding up to Greve in Chianti to watch the Giro de Italia time trials, had some lunch, and biked back into Florence. He calibrate the ride to exactly what I wanted with the best views and scenery I can imagine. Not only was the ride great, but Mark is personable, friendly, and knowledgeable about biking culture and Florence. It was a true pleasure riding with him, I plan to do it again when I'm back in Florence and would recommend him to anyone going there who wants to do any level of riding. Really I wish I could give him 6 stars!

        Riding with Cosimo / Firenze
I will think to the monument of Cosimos on the left side of Palazzo Vecchio; it's a work of big dignity; the posh and proud strong horse from Giambolognia; Cosimo, conqueror of Siena: and Pius V present the title of Gran Duc to Cosimo.

        GREAT guide!!
I had the pleasure of riding with Mark on a 30-mile loop through the Chianti region. Mark is a great guide. He offered me many choices throughout the day, and explained the ins and outs of biking in Italy. I felt very safe riding with him. It was truly the highlight of my 3-week stay in Florence. Thanks, Mark, for a great day and those couple of pushes up the hills! Warm regards, Walter

        Private Hike in Santa Brigida
Mark was a fantastic hiking guide. My husband and I were on our honeymoon in August. We were gifted the hike through our honeymoon registry. Mark was easy to book a tour with. He met us for breakfast and then drove us to Santa Brigida for a fantastic hike. We are beginning hikers, and Mark was very good at planning an appropriate day of exercise and fresh air. It was so amazing getting out of the busy city for a hike! We were able to see many burriaes on the trail, which were cool structures used to make butter in the past. We requested to have lunch in the area, and Mark took us to an incredible authentic Italian eatery with delicious seafood and pasta. Mark drove us back to the city afterwards. He is friendly, knowledgeable, and really gave us a wonderful day of hiking.

Florence Bike riding - Cosimo is in a class by himself!
Cosimo (Mark) was an excellent guide who tailored a ride to my riding ability and expectations for the day. Pleasant, affable and engaging, you will enjoy your tour of the Tuscan country when riding with Cosimo. We did a tour of the Mugello region and he was an excellent host.

        A fantastic experience
My wife and I (on our honeymoon) took a multi-day trip with Cosimo. He was an amazing, adaptable, fun, and engaging guide. We had an unbelievable experience. He has pre-determined routes but is always willing to change on the spot. What's more, he was constantly adapting to the weather and how we were feeling at the moment. Cosimo is a fantastic guide for cyclists of any level and will ensure you have a great time. We will be telling our family and friends about him. Thanks!

Fabulous Day Out - Not To Be Missed!!!
We would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who enjoys cycling and wants to get off the beaten track to see the real peace and beauty of the Tuscan countryside. Mark showed us a fantastic route through roads lined with olive groves and vineyards - fabulous day! My husband is a keen cyclist and Mark took us on a fun and challenging route. I cheated as I have an electric assist bike, so I could keep up but Mike constantly kept a check that the pace was right for everybody and there was no pressure. This really is a must do for anyone visiting the area - the best day of our holiday so far! Thank you

Experience the amazing Tuscany countryside~ Breathtaking!
This was truly the trip of a lifetime for my husband and I. We found out about Mark through a friend of a friend, and it was an amazing experience. We rented bikes through Mark, which he fit perfectly to our bodies- making for a very comfortable ride. Not only is Mark kind, but he knows the most beautiful rides and can customize them for you. We always felt safe under his care-- which is so important because the roads and driving in Italy are so vastly different from the states. If we wanted a more challenging or easier day, he could quickly accommodate that too. We loved enjoying macchiato and crossiants with him on the rides. the views were unbelieveable and we really loved our pasta and wine for dinner after getting a great ride in! We were so thankful to meet him and would highly recommend this trip to anyone wanting to experience the Tuscan countryside (which I think everyone should!). Thank you Mark!

        Climbing in Chianti
What can I say? We now have a new appreciation and enjoyment for hill climbing! My boyfriend and I took a tour through the Chianti Hills with Mark (Riding with Cosimo) and it was one of the highlights of our recent holiday. Beginning with the booking process which was prompt and uncomplicated, Mark tailored the ride to our ability and desire. We were given options at several points along the way for easier or more difficult routes and to continue or make our way back to the starting point – the decision was completely ours and we never once felt restricted for time. Mark was a great host and an extremely proficient rider who enabled us to enjoy a fantastic ride through beautiful countryside without the worry of navigation, where to find refreshment and the all-important bathrooms. He also took lots of photos of us throughout the day which was a really nice touch. We highly recommend a day Riding with Cosimo if you’re looking to experience Chianti off the beaten tourist track and a bargain to boot. Thank you very much Mark.

Both myself and my partner had such an AMAZING day riding through Chianti with Mark. Although Mark and my partner are more experienced cyclists than me, they kept a nice pace throughout the entire day. Mark had set up the route so we could have options to extend it depending on our/my energy levels on the day. We cycled 75km in total, which was a new record for me!

Not only was Mark a super guide, but he was also a very friendly and likeable guy. The weather on the day couldn't have been better too - around 26 degrees Celsius and sunny. It really was such a memorable way to see the beautiful Tuscan countryside, and it was definitely one the highlights of our trip!

Thank you so much for such a perfect day Mark!

Mark is an excellent tour guide, if someone’s looking for a private cycling tour from Florence. We met at a cycle hire shop recommended by Mark, and he proceeded to take us on a 40 mile tour of the Chianti region just to the south of Florence. We rode at our pace, didn’t feel under pressure to ride at a certain speed, and we stopped at some beautiful spots for photo opportunities and some well needed drink and snack breaks. Would thoroughly recommend using Mark for anyone wanting to see a bit more of Tuscany than just Florence. He’s open to going as short or long a ride you want, knows some fantastic routes and was just a pleasure to be with.

Wonderful day biking through the Tuscan countryside! We biked all day (about 30km) with out 10 and 12 year old kids. Mark was great! He met us in an agreed upon location in one of the towns and arranged for the bike rentals. He customized the bike route to accommodate our kids. There were some challenging hills but Mark was very patient and encouraging to help us all get up them. The scenery was beautiful and my kids say it was the best day of our trip. Would highly recommend Mark's tour.

Florence and Tuscany are incredible. But, most of the venues and activities are pre-packaged for the average dull, sedate tourist walking or using a bus.
      --Then there's Cosimo!

Mark, the tour organizer is a mature, strong cyclist from the USA who moved to Florence four years ago so he and his wife could be near their daughter. He knows the region and, from his local connections he also has gained great insights into wonderful destinations. He combines the knowledge gained from his regional cycling and his relationships to create incredible end-to-end custom tours. He can help with bicycle rentals, riding, food, sites, public transit, and more. Just ask -- that's what makes this different, it's an all-day custom-built activity that will be the one thing you remember most about Florence. This is only possible because Mark is a native English-speaking guide who also understands the region, the local language, bicycling, and the local connections.

For four of us, Mark worked with us in advance to arrange a private winery tour with a chef-prepared meal for just us. The day started by meeting us at a coffee shop in town where we got to know Mark and learn more about the day ahead. We walked to the nearby bicycle shop where we rented very nice bicycles (highly geared hybrids, with step-throughs for the two women). We rode out quiet paths and roads to the winery up in the hills South of town. After that, he arranged for two the cyclists to return to Florence by train while the two more dedicated cyclists rode back for a full 40-mile loop. All of us enjoyed great views, many photo ops, and delightful rest stops (with coffee and pastry).

By way of background, I'm a bicycling enthusiast aged 59. I don't race, but I enjoy riding and am comfortable navigating roads with occasional cars and hills back home. My observation is that Mark is superb for moderate and serious cyclists. But, if you're shooting for a few miles of family fun riding, you would be better off with one of the dumbed-down package bike tours on clumsy fixed-gear heavy bikes.

Mark's custom tours are not "cheap," but they are a great value. His gives you a package for your small private group that spans the entire day and includes food, tours, wine, etc (whatever you choose). You can easily pay a lot more for a lot less. And, most other tours (by bicycle or van/bus) consist of a group of strangers and a fixed sterilized itinerary. With Mark, you create a custom package up front and then adjust your day as you ride -- based on the the riders' energy, changes in weather, surprising sites, hunger, or whatever you feel.

I highly recommend Mark for a unforgettable day (or days) that you'll remember even after the rest of your vacation fades from memory.

The couple we were traveling with in Tuscany had heard about Riding with Cosimo through a friend and we decided it would be a nice complement to our trip to hire Cosimo (owner Mark Collins) for a cycling tour in Florence's countryside. We had no cycling gear with us other than shorts and t-shirts and were concerned about too difficult a ride as none of us are regular cyclists. When we arrived for the tour Mark had everything arranged including bicycles for the four of us and a tour mapped out that was sensitive to our riding experience. We had to ride a bit inside Florence to get out to the countryside and then for the duration of the trip we cycled through the Tuscany countryside enjoying picturesque villages and landscape that you cannot appreciate as well by car or public transportation. For those who know the countryside around Florence, it is not flat but hilly terrain, some of the inclines quite challenging. Mark watched out for us to be sure we didn't get too strung out and did a nice job of selecting a route with minimal auto traffic. He has a really nice way of giving encouragement without pandering. While at the end of our 55 kilometer ride we were happy to no longer have a bike seat under us, we all shared high fives to symbolize how much we enjoyed the trip, one of the highlights of our two weeks in Tuscany. As an added benefit, Mark takes pictures along the route and records distance ridden and elevation gained and shares all this in a subsequent email that arrives almost immediately. All in all, a first rate experience that we'd do again in a flash.

my fiance and myself were in Chianti for a quick getaway and mark managed to change his regular route to meet us in Chianti since that is were we wanted to have the tour and we were shocked by how knowledgable he was of all the routes as he chose it to completely fit our needs as we wanted nice views with medium level of workout. also the whole itenerary and stops and recos for food was on point.

In October 2017 our group of four women from San Francisco hired Mark to guide us for 4 days of amazing cycling. He is fabulous! He showed us beautiful rides, shared local stops for espresso, pastries & savories, and lunch stops as well. We rode 33-55 miles per day and he paced us according to our skill (he is a very strong rider!). We have hired him to guide us again for a week -- in fall 2019 -- and can't wait! He is such a nice guy and I recommend him very highly!

Mark did a fantastic job of setting up two days of riding for me. The night before we rode, he checked the distance and climbing elevation that I was anticipating. We stopped for coffee and Danish twice each day, and never got the same Danish. Each café had a specialty, which of course we got, and each was distinct. Delicious, but different! And the rides were better than my wildest dreams. Exactly the degree of difficulty that I anticipated, but much better scenery than I anticipated. We rode over 160 kilometers between the two days and less than 1 kilometer was ridden twice. And about half of that was the opposite direction. It takes a masterful guide to pick routes like that.

Having dinner one evening in Crested Butte Colorado my husband and I mentioned to the establishment’s owner that we were heading to Florence in the fall. She immediately suggested Mark as our guide. You see Mark lived in CB for years and had moved to Florence to be with family. I thought perfect! Mark’s son gave us his contact info and we hired Mark for two days of riding in the hills of Tuscany. Although I ride on the country roads in CB, I was a little hesitant thinking about road biking in a large, busy city like Florence. Not to worry. Mark met us at the bike rental shop, started us off on the bike path through town and by the time we hit the main streets heading out of Florence I concentrated on following Mark’s signals and we took off to the quiet rolling hills. The path Mark takes you on is adjusted to your ability and strength. We were very, very happy with our tour, our guide and all the great food along the way. He is worth every penny!!!!
