Meet your air-conditioned, 4x4 minibus in central Florence. As you ride, enjoy watching the city landscape melt into rolling hills of vineyards and olive groves while your guide takes care of the navigation. Perfect day outside Florence

We did this tour in late April 2022 and it was one of the highlights of our three weeks in Italy! Lavi was our tour guide and Roberto was our fearless driver. Lavi was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and wine and gave us so much fun and useful information.

The three wineries we visited were fantastic - we bought six bottles each at two of them (first and third stops of the day) to have shipped home to the States. Lunch at the second stop was absolutely delicious - I am still thinking about the divine truffle pasta we had that day. One of the reasons I love to do wine tours (other than drinking new wine) is to meet people, and our group on this tour was a lot of fun.

I highly recommend this tour when in Florence as a great way to get outside the city, see more of the Tuscan region, meet new people, and drink delicious Chianti Classico.

Here's what you need to know

Looking at so many wine tours, which do you choose? And what's the difference between one that costs $40 and one that costs $400? Here's what I can tell you about his tour: Great wines, great food, great guide and a guaranteed good time.

Wines: All wines were Chianti Classico organic DOCG, mixture of Chianti Classico, Riserva and Gran Selezione (if you don't know the difference you'll find out on the tour!). Almost all reds, and all high quality, retail prices range from $10-100+ with most in the $20-50 range. We drink a lot of wine from all over the world, mostly US, and were not disappointed in any of the wines.
Food: Plenty of it and one of the best lunches we had in Italy. We had truffle ricotta ravioli and tagliatelle with wild boar ragout for the main part of lunch. So good! I will say they also did a good job of accommodating some vegetarians in our group.
Guide: Gloria was our guide, I understand she does most of these tours, she's a certified sommelier, she knows a lot about the places, the process, the region, etc. very knowledgeable, friendly, great guide.

This tour was totally worth what we paid and we really enjoyed it, one of our best days in Italy on the trip.

A Perfect Afternoon with a Perfect Guide!

This experience absolutely exceeded all of our expectations and was one of our favorite days in all of Italy! To start, all three vineyards at which we stopped offered something truly unique and memorable that separated them from one another. Whether a deep dive into the history of Chianti Classico or an informative and fun olive oil tasting, we were continually impressed by what the tour had to offer. It also spoils you in the best way possible. You drink some of the most terrific wines while viewing some of the most breathtaking Italian countryside you will ever see. You eat one of the best lunches you could possibly taste and then tour some of the most spectacular vineyards you could hope to visit. Every single aspect of this tour is perfect, and none was better than our outstanding guide, Alex! From the very beginning, Alex was the most amazing guide we could have asked for: he was entertaining, engaging, funny, knowledgable, enthusiastic, and passionate. If they gave awards for tour guiding, he would take home the top prize every single year. He made the long stretches of the drive entertaining and made sure to engage members of the tour 1-on-1 when we were at the vineyards. He especially went above and beyond for my group, giving us an opportunity to sample a Reserve vintage that wasn't on the standard tasting menu at one of our stops. Eating lunch with him and hearing him tell stories from some of his most memorable tours was absolutely one of the highlights of our time in Italy. Although we did not know each other, he treated everyone in our group like old friends. RUN to book this tour and then cross your fingers that you get Alex as your guide. It may just be the best experience you ever have in Italy.

Chianti wine tour by 4x4
We went to some amazing wineries and had an amazing lunch at a small boutique winery. The fact it was in a 4x4 seems to be more of a gimmick, and certainly wasn’t required for the roads we traveled on. Save your money if that’s the only reason you pick this tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and fun to be around. The biggest issue I had is that we didn’t taste the highest quality wines. I had gone the previous day to one of the same wineries on a tour offered directly through the winery, and got to experience their top shelf wines. However, on this tour we only went up to the mid level, which was disappointing. My wife wanted to try one of the higher level wines and it cost an additional €30. The food was great, very high quality and great wine pairings. I’ve been on many wine tours and was surprised that they didn’t have a good place to store wine that we purchased, and did not offer complimentary water during transfer from winery to winery.

A must do tour if you are visiting Florence

We had a fantastic experience on this tour. Gloria our guide was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about wines. She took us to several incredible and local vineyards where we got to learn all about how the wines were made, and (most importantly!) taste a variety of different regional and delicious wines including many types of Chianti. The lunch provided was extremely delicious and served in the garden at a restaurant. We also had the opportunity to explore and take photos in each vineyard we visited. We also enjoyed learning about how olive oil is produced in the region which was an interesting addition. The safari vehicle was spacious, comfortable and a great addition to the tour. We overall absolutely enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to any wine-lovers visiting Florence or the surrounding Tuscany region.

Wonderful day in Tuscany

Wonderful day in Tuscany. Our guide, Alex, was entertaining, very knowledgeable, and a delight to be with for a day. He had a huge amount of energy and passion in his discussions that there was never a dull moment. He also had a deadpan humor style that I really enjoyed.
The food, including the lunch, was very good. And, the wine was superb.
This is an activity to not be missed.
One caveat: If you, like me, are prone to motion sickness think twice before taking the tour. The vehicle has a high center of gravity and moves back and forth with every bump and twisty turn. It negatively affected my enjoyment, but not the fault of anyone. I'm just mentioning it in the event someone similar might think twice before taking this particular tour.

Best day of our entire 3 week trip through Italy!

We spent 3 weeks traveling all of Italy and this was our favorite day of the trip. Lavi felt like a family friend, she was just so warm and welcoming and authentic plus she gave an excellent tour with tons of knowledge and interesting facts (and a little comedy). I would 10/10 recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience Tuscany and some of the best wine there is (Chianti Classico has become my absolute favorite).

Must Do Tour in Tuscany

Best Tour of our Tuscany Trip! From beginning to end excellent organized, Tour Guide Lavinia speaks perfectly English, has so much knowledge and we loved spending the day with her and get to know all of Chianti Classico wines and region. The wineries were top quality and the landscape was beautiful. 10/10 points. Highly recommended!

Amazing Tour with a Wonderful, Knowledgeable Guide! It was thoroughly an amazing experience from start to end. The meeting point was very easy to find our guide, Lavinia, and from there she was very knowledgeable and nice. We learned all about the wine, olive oils, and history, while getting amazing views on our journey to the vineyards. All the wines were great,the olive oil experience was unique and educational, Lunch at the restaurant was some of the best food we had all trip and it made you not want the tour to end! I would highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to learn more about the beautiful Chianti region. The 4x4 bus was comfortable, overall Well worth your time, you will not be disappointed!

A group tour for people who don't do group tours

We don't usually enjoy group tours, but I will recommend this tour to everyone. Our friend booked this for us and we did not quite know what to expect when we met Lavinia at the library. I don't know that anything could have prepared us for this safari. It's hard to conceptualize that truck until it's in front of you.

The ride to the first vineyard was a crash course about chianti and all of it's wonders. Lavinia was engaging and informative, somehow making everyone feel like they were on their own personal wine tour. No question was small or trivial and she took the time to get to know everyone on the bus. Pairing that with breathtaking views, great food and wine means we had an unforgettable experience.

If you're thinking about going on a wine tour, this will not disappoint.
