About
Most trips to Italy involve plenty of pizza and cones of gelato but on this tour, you won’t just get to sample both specialties: learn how to make them (and will walk away with new skills). Class sizes are small, so you receive personal instruction from a trained Italian chef. Make pizza dough from scratch, learn gelato-making tips, and enjoy tastings of both at the end of your class.

Highlights
  • Enjoy pizza and gelato at the end of class, with wine or soft drinks
  • Take home a recipe booklet to try out your newfound skills
  • Learn about the history of pizza-making across Italy
What to expect
Your Italian culinary immersion begins in the afternoon or evening in central Florence, depending on the session you select. The class begins with an introduction to pizza in Italy, from its long history to its different regional varieties. Once you’ve learned all about Italy’s favorite dish, don your apron and hat and get cooking. Class sizes are kept small, so you receive personal attention from the chef. Learn how to make your own pizza dough from scratch, knead the dough, prepare traditional tomato sauce, and select your own toppings. As the dough rises, you also learn how to make gelato—Italy’s answer to ice cream, famous for its rich, ultra-creamy consistency. End your class with a meal: Eat the pizza you made from scratch and enjoy gelato for dessert, plus glasses of wine or soft drinks. A recipe booklet is also included so you can try out your new skills upon returning home.

We are pizza and gelato lovers and this class was a truly great experience! We had a full class in attendance, several adult couples as well as families with children. Our instructors were Tommaso and David, both were exceptional with great personalities. Tommaso's demonstration and detailed explanation about the special ingredients and technique needed to make pizza dough with a chewy, crispy pizza crust (that we all love) was perfect. They spent time at each of our workstations assisting us with making our dough, kneading and shaping it for toppings and baking. David also had a great demonstration on making gelato, it was surprising how simple the process is. At the end of the class they shared the recipes for the pizza and gelato, plus a few bonus recipes (David made pickled onions as one of the pizza toppings, recipe included, and they are the bomb.) Definitely fit this into your itinerary if you are visiting Florence. We had a great time!

An incredible experience! Chef Katerina joyfully guided us in making our own pizza and gelato from scratch. She skillfully involved every child in the room and kept all ages entertained as we made our own dinner and dessert. Such a lively, entertaining and tasty evening!

My wife and adult son and I are “foodies” from the U.S. We enjoyed this experience tremendously. Our teacher, chef Tomoso, was engaging, intelligent, kind and helpful. No matter the level of experience, he helped all to make their own pizza (and eat it). Wine was served and we also helped prepare chocolate gelato, which was dessert. The class started on-time, in a group of about 15 or so. Total time was about 2 and a half hours. Fully recommended!

My family of 4 (including 2 young kids) took the Pizza and Gelato class in Florence. This was one of the highlights of my entire visit to Europe! The instructor, Tomasso had lots of tips and good information to share, and he was great with my kids. It was really fun making our own pizzas, and they turned out great. The gelato was made by the instructor and it was the best gelato of our trip. Would highly recommend taking this class!

Also wanted to note, my daughter has been refusing all pizza since coming to Italy because they don’t serve it with ranch dressing. She ate her entire pizza during this class so thank you!!

The class was so much fun. It was a small setting with two families doing the class. Both instructors / chefs were very welcoming and made it all enjoyable. We made pizza from scratch and watched the chef make the gelato with a coupe of helpers from the class. They had soft drinks for the kids and wine for the adults. It was a great experience.

What a wonderful experience!

Italian native Chef Caterina is funny, kind, engaging, and a master at her craft. She taught us her techniques and about the foods in a memorable way, with humor, stories, and professional demonstrations. She was encouraging and a wonderful teacher!

Thank you Chef Caterina and Florence Town for an amazing experience! We highly recommend making this a part of your visit to Florence.

Our family loved our two days in Florence, which was capped off by our cooking class with Caterina. She was engaging, funny and patient and entertained each of our 18, 16 and 13 year old children. She had a passion for traditional Italian cooking, particularly her family’s gelatoria. We had an outstanding time and good meal. We highly recommend making this class part of your Italian experience.

Great family experience! Came with my 3 tween/teenaged nieces and we had a blast. Caterina and John were funny and full of information and made sure everyone’s pizza was a success. It was a lovely and delicious way to spend an evening in Florence!

By strange start, I'll say that the meeting point for this tour was, by the account of our first guide (chef who met us) 10 minutes away. However, after an 18 minute walk (one of my daughters timed it) through the dark and crowded city with 25 people following her, we finally made it to our destination. Things looked up at that point and we had a great time, learning how to make our own dough and pizza. They were generous with the offerings of toppings, and generous with drinks as well, to include water, soft drinks and wine. While our dough rested, the Executive Chef demonstrated how to make gelato, which we had for dessert after we ate our pizza. Our family of five sat at our own table, which was pre-assigned, so there was no confusion. We thoroughly enjoyed this class!

We had an amazing experience. We booked last minute because another plan got canceled and this seemed like something fun to do. Caterina was an amazing teacher. She was very knowledgeable and patience. She took the time to explain the recipe that was easy to understand and answer any questions. My wife and I were the only people there and she made us feel right at home. The pizza and gelato we had were amazing. I’m glad she gave us a recipe and some tips to become experts and to teach others back home. Thank you Caterina!
