- danieisaacs0 contributionsFully Bellies and Big Smiles with Mimmo! The whole experience was fabulous from start to finish. Mimmo, his mother and brother in law were all welcoming and taught us all how to make delicious pasta dishes I’ll replicate at home. Everything was delicious, including the white table wine I drank like water. I have a tree-nut allergy, and Mimmo kindly made a separate nut free pesto, which was beyond appreciated and delicious. Mimmo’s mother was a very welcome addition and came over to all of us to correct our pasta making. I would recommend this activity to anyone staying in the area. I left with wonderful memories and a full belly!Written September 4, 2024
- eleanor y0 contributionsMemorable Day in SicilyEverything about this excursion was fabulous. A beautiful day was had by all of us!.we had a party of 4. Chef Mimo & Mama could not have been kinder!! We learned about all the delicious ingredients with our trip to the market. We learned about the ingredients and what each one did for the meal we were about to prepare! So informative, so fun -the “work” is done in the beautiful restaurant overlooking the sea. A wonderful and memorable event not to be missed!!Written August 30, 2024
- danielapS9744SS0 contributionsNot what we had in mind..We attended this cooking class with Mimmo in July. There was a big group of people wanting to learn how to cook that day and we got to sit with another beautiful couple. We had so much fun socializing and talking with the couple and to be honest, this was the highlight. Chef Mimmo has a very friendly and warm vibe and so does his mother but to be honest, we never cooked in the entire day. We learnt how to roll pasta, yes. But other than that we only prepared the food. Chopping and putting into bowls. Then the food was taken to the back to be cooked. I think we had imagined a station were we could have actually cooked the food and learnt about the heat and the seasoning. Now everytime the food was going to be cooked we were seated in the restaurant with a bottle of wine and snacks while we waited for them to cook; not exactly what what you imagine when you pay for a cooking class. Also this meant that the pasta we made didn’t end up on our table in the end since it was sent into one big pot with everyone elses! This meant we didn’t get a chance to taste how our pasta techniques had worked. The couple definitely made our day and without them and the socialization we definitely would have felt a bit disappointed..Written August 4, 2024
- stevenlM5518QH0 contributionsOutstanding cooking class experience. The entire cooking class was perfection. We loved this experience so much, from the market at the start of the class, to learning about local produce/meals, to cooking everything and then enjoying the meal. It was amazing value and would highly recommend.Written July 28, 2024
- M4100LBallisong0 contributionsMimmo’s cooking classMy daughter and I had a pizza and canolli cooking class with Mimmo and his mom helped too. We had a lot of fun too, even met other people from Denmark. The location of the class is at Mimma’s family restaurant on the Sea, so we had a great view too. There was plenty of water, we had fresh appetizers waiting for us at the table while we cooked. We had wine with our dinner which was the pizza we made, and cannoli’s for dessert with the toppings of our choice. The meeting point was conveniently located at the piazza and we were picked up and returned in an air-conditioned luxury taxi. When dinner was finished, we had a few extra minutes to walk along the Sea until the taxi arrived. We had a great time, in total from pick up to finish, was 3 hours. I will definitely recommend Mimmo’s class.Written July 24, 2024
- sarah515pink0 contributionsFantastic experience 👏Treated like a VIP, chef was very welcoming and informative, all staff very friendly and attentive. We all ( me, husband and daughters aged 9 and 12) enjoyed making our pizzas and canolli, and the outcone was superb! Point of note the location of the class is actually in Naxos, not Taormina.... so if you're already in Naxos and dont want or need to go to Taomina, contact the chef ( we chatted on WhatsApp very easily) and arrange a more convenient location to meet or be collected from and taken to.... also don't eat all your pizza..... the canolli goes soggy after just 12 hours and they are sooo good you'll want to eat them fresh....honestly, it will be the best pizza and canolli you've ever tasted!! And you'll have made them!!Written July 23, 2024

We started at the market in Taormina and then we were transported by private taxi to the family restaurant by the beach where the class began. Chef Mimmo is a great character as is his wonderful Mum who helped with our food preparation. We are looking forward to making the dishes when we get home.Written June 28, 2024

- AndrewOD970 contributions10/10 - A must go!!!The entire day from start to finish was fantastic. Chef Mimmo met us, and brought us to the market to purchase our ingredients, before a very comfortable (and quick) journey to his amazing family restaurant, open since the 1980s! We met his entire family and a special shoutout to his mother who helped me making my pasta! The dishes were a joy to make and really made us understand how some of the best food is made with some simple, fresh ingredients. Learning about where these traditional dishes come from and how they are put together was amazing. Overall, this cooking class was a great learning experience, with a small interactive group that made the entire day such a joy, we even had a chance to have lunch and wine together during the day! We cannot recommend this enough to any couple, family or individual who want to do something special during their trip! Thank You Very Much Mimmo! Andrew & SeafraWritten June 17, 2024
- Ctheworld210 contributionsRecommended! You won't be disappointed with the food and experience. We had a great time with Mimmo and his team. We made multiple types of pasta with sauces, vegetable caponata, and an amazing rolled swordfish that somehow was the start of the show. It was a little difficult to find the restaurant among the several right next to each other at the similar address. They could do a better job at directing people where to go. Also a van shuttle was provided back to Taormina town center which was greatly appreciated and not expected. Overall amazing food -- better than some of the restaurants we tried locally -- and well worth the money. Can't beat the sea views either! Come HUNGRY. Plenty of food and wine to go around. Thankful for Mimmo and his team for welcoming us into their restaurant.Written June 11, 2024

Mimmo was excellent to work with: full of life, full of knowledge about Sicilian food and culture, and full of personality that meshed so well with the people he spent this course’s time with. There were ten or twelve of us altogether, and he interacted personally with every single one. Best of all, however, was his spirited introduction to Sicilian food and the teaching he did to help us know it (and the culture of Sicily) better, and eat it more often. I loved working with him.

We took Chef Dominico's cooking class 8 years ago and this time brought our cousins to Sicily and we took this class again. Such a wonderful experience. You meet at the square, then head to the market to purchase fresh veggies. You take a short walk to Dominico's family restaurant where you roll pasta, mamma teaches you how to make a regional eggplant dish, and we prepare our own fish. While food is being cooked in the kitchen we had antipasta and vino. Our lunch came out and we had a wonderful meal and enjoyed conversation with people from around the world. We highly recommend this cooking class.

We absolutelty loved our time spent with Mimmo, his mother and the group, at his restuarant! It was a perfect way to experience Sicilian cuisine. His understated restaurant is sitatued in the heart of Taormina - a wonderful town nestled in the hills of Sicily. If you take this opportunity, please allow for time to explore the town, as we spent 4-1/2 hours with Mimmo. Coming from the port of Messina you will have to take a cab to ensure timely arrival and departure. Otherwise you can arrive by plane, train or bus. This is definitly worth your time and money.

I recommended this to my friends based on the reviews and was embarrassed to have done so. Our "maximum group of fourteen" was twenty. Pro tip: In a group of twenty, some people will always be late, so don't bother showing up on time. Our "market tour" was standing in front of a vegetable stand where maybe the ten closest could hear, then being bussed five miles out of town to sit twenty around a table and roll pasta. I do not understand five star reviews and feel bad for people who think this was as good as things get, though maybe if the group size was eight, it would have been four stars. See my reviews of Chef Paolo in Lucca or Opera in the Garden, Florence, if you think I am just a crab. So much good in Taormina, don't spend your day on this low quality experience.

It is very sad and frustrating to receive a bad review from a person who has never attended my class as you wrote in your review and the fact that I have checked all bookings and there is no a Robert B in my past attendees. A person should judge something not by hearsay, but by actual experience.
I dedicate all of myself to my work and to the satisfaction of my clients, to provide an experience that my guests can remember with joy and enthusiasm. As all local village markets there are no seats, we go around the various fruit, vegetable and fish vendors, and I explain the various characteristics of each thing, and how we could cook it.
Are you talking about buses? I have never used buses: at the end of the market tour, guests are taken to my restaurant, a few steps from the sea, by a taxi transfer with Mercedes E-Class. The transfer takes only 15 minutes maximum. Upon the arrival at the restaurant, after a coffee break, I show how to prepare fresh handmade pasta and together with me and under my supervision, we make different types of it. We then continue to prepare the caponata, a typical Sicilian appetizer, to finish with the preparation of a second course which is fish "alla ghiotta", or fish rolls. Furthermore, between each preparation I have the pleasure of entertaining my guests with wine tastings and typical sicilian products like cheese and salami. In the description is specified that the experience includes a maximum of 20 participants.
When you come to Sicily it will be a pleasure to host you, and then you will be able to judge from your actual experience, but not from hearsay.
Cordial greetings from Sicily

This was the highlight of our visit to Taormina. Chef Mimmo taught us how to select the best vegetables at the local market, was patient and entertaining as we struggled through making hand-made pasta of several sizes and shapes, and encouraged us as we sautéed our vegetables, cooked our pasta and put it all together. We had a self prepared full course luncheon that was excellent. His seaside restaurant is beautiful and we even got to meet his father, a chef himself who taught Chef Mimmo his trade. If you’re looking for a true cooking experience, put this at the top of your list.

Chef Mimmo & the staff at Ahoy Brassiere created an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere was lighthearted and fun and the food was astoundingly delicious.
This was by far the most hands-on cooking class I have ever taken part in; Chef Mimmo structures the process to make sure that everyone has a chance to chop, slice, knead, & stir to their heart’s content. Not only did we make the pasta that eventually ended up on our plates, Chef Mimmo also instructed us on how to create four or five other different pasta shapes. In addition, he guided us through every other step needed to create each of the three courses that we enjoyed.
As wonderful as the class itself was, the experience as a whole was even better. Between Chef Mimmo’s lighthearted banter, the wine in our cups and the food in our bellies, and the phenomenal company we had at our table, the afternoon was one some of the most fun I have had in a while.
Cheers to Chef Mimmo for creating the highlight of our trip to Taormina!

We met chef Massimo by the arc and first walked to a local marked to get fresh vegetables before going to his restaurant in Corse Umberto. He was so pleasant and knowledgeable and we made a three corse meal with pasta and typical Sicilian receipts. It tasted delicious! It was very calm and only the four of us in the restaurant. my boys at 16 and 19 enjoyed the corse as well. It was such a Nice experience!

Great experience. Started at market at gate to Taormina and finished at Chef Mimmo’s beautiful family restaurant at the sea shore. Transportation was included with luxury van transfers. Seeing the passion and pride that the whole family (mother, father and brother were at the restaurant) has towards cooking was one of the unique aspects of this experience. This is an inside look at classic Sicilian cooking. Will definitely replicate these dishes at home, particularly pasta making. Did sign up for the vegetarian/vegan class but it was more geared for vegetarian/pescatarians rather than vegans. The lunch that the class prepared was shared family style with wine and appetizers and was as delicious as any restaurant meal. This was a memorable highlight of our Taormina trip.
