friendly and professional day-trip to Syracuse
Renate Kobler was a great guide and Michele an excellent driver. The itinerary was well-planned and stimulating, with ample time for personal exploration on Ortygia. It is hard to imagine better value for a day-trip to an unmissable location.

Learn to cook a Sicilian style and have great fun
Chef Paolo first took us to a market to show us all the various vegetables, and to explain how they are used. That was great fun because he is such an interesting and entertaining fellow. We went back to the restaurant and learn to make pasta. Then we learned to make salt baked fish, delicious. When it was done, we learned how to fillet it. Then we learned how to make very delicious eggplant Parmesan. And if that wasn’t enough, we also learned to make excellent breadcrumbs, and to create a sardine and crusted breadcrumbs. Paolo very amusing with his stories about his grandmother, and how he learned to cook the hard way. Midway, we had a break for wine and cheese and bread, When the cooking was done, we all sat down to a very delicious meal that we had made, of course, with the help of a very busy and very friendly kitchen staff. We got aprons to take home, and and Paolo sent us the recipes so that we could continue to cook Sicilian style. It was a great adventure and I highly recommend it as a wonderful way to spend a long morning to afternoon.

Mount Etna day trip from Taormina
Fab trip which included exactly what we were looking for. Bus to cable car, then cable car to top, then a walk around some craters and great viewing experience.

Hop off Hop on a real scam.
Don't use the hop off hop on bus, it was terrible. First of all we wanted to go to Savoca with a normal bus. We were told at the bus station that there were no city bus going there and the Hop on Hop off bus was the only one going (totally untrue) and it leaves at 10:30 am. The bus arrived after 11am to take us first to a place where we didn't stop as we were told to stay on the bus if we wanted to go to Savoca. Then it went back to the bus station in Taormina by that time it was past 11:30 and then they took us to a bus stop where they told us we had to wait for the next hop on hop off bus to Savoca but that we had to wait at that bus stop where there was no shelter from the sun and the heat that day was over 30C. The only place we could sit was a horrible cafe across the street but of course we couldn't sit there without buying food or drinks. They came to pick us up not an hour later but 1:30 hr later and we arrive in Savoca at 3 Pm to be told the last bus was at 4:30 pm which mean the journey we thought that would take us in Savoca at 11am to give us time to lookout the place at our leisure, meant that we had to rush to visit it and didn't see everything we wanted to see. This company is a real scam and besides that the drives are so unfriendly.

      Volcano special
The views of Stromboli at night were amazing and made the entire trip worthwhile. The guide did not share much information but she was nice. The guys running the boat were helpful. The only truly neg were many of the other tourists who pushed and shoved with really poor decorum .

Needed more time in the two locations, as it all felt rather rushed.
Make sure you take cash with you, as the guide will collect money on the coach to pay for the entrance fee to the Archaeology Park. The coach stopped at a service station on the way to Syracuse, so we could all use the loos and pick up a quick coffee/snack. Unfortunately 3 other buses arrived at the same time, so we spent most of the 20 minute break in a horrendous queue for the toilets with no time to spare to buy anything from the shop. We spent 1.5 hours at the Park but unfortunately our guide spent long periods of time standing in one spot to talk, or walking painfully slowly along.....and then suddenly ran out of time, so we got to take a quick photo from the side of the amphitheatre before having to dash off to our coach. We really needed an extra 20 minutes so we could walk around the amphitheatre and take it all in. Our next stop was Ortygia. After seeing a map of Ortygia which highlighted the main attractions, we deserted our tour guide as we knew we could walk at a faster pace to see the sights, and still have time for a leisurely lunch. The trip home was uneventful, with no bathroom break on the way back.

Etna Upper Craters Tour - Awesome experience.
Booked through ‘Get Your Guide’. The tour was pretty well organised at the bus terminal (08:30 pick) but do not be afraid to confirm you are on a list for what looks the right bus. The trip itself is about an hour and a half on the road with about a half hour getting up the Etna slopes. Your tour guide allowed 15 mins for a bathroom break at the Etna drop off point which is where you also receive your cable car and upper slopes pass. Cable car was fun with some amazing scenery on the way up. You are then at about 2800m then queue for the 4WD jeep-bus to the upper slopes where your mountain guide takes over and you climb a short trek to the highest point you can go 3300m). We had Marco who provided an interesting summary of recent volcanic activity mixed with geological facts and figures. Really nice guy who answered many questions but also found time for a team photo! Do listen to these guys. If they say stay in area, stay there; unlike a few bozos who insisted on wondering off and even challenged the guide when he ordered them back on safety grounds. Could not really fault the Etna trip. If I had one criticism it is that we could have had more time on upper slopes. However, it gets very busy and they have to move people through. We departed at 13:00 back to Taormina bus terminal. A most amazing experience - thoroughly recommended.

      A brilliant day out.
This was an excellent trip in excellent weather. Both islands are well worth a visit. Panarea is more beautiful but Stromboli more spectacular. Bar Carola on Panarea was very good for lunch. Catering less exciting on Stromboli at least on our assessment. The boat was busy so an on deck seat is not guaranteed. The SAT guide was fine but not always necessary. The website suggests this trip starts at 1030 in October and lasts 10 hours. It didn’t! It really started at 1100 and finished at 2130. If you are driving to Milazzo, it’s well worth booking parking. Garage Mylae is handy and they do really good service.

      Great experience but with frustrations.
The vistas were amazing, Stromboli performed for us and overall we were happy with the experience. However…..We were told to wait at the office for our tour guide, then to be last on the overcrowded boat with a very limited choice of seats. We had no further contact with that tour guide for the rest of the day, so why did we have to wait? The stops at Panorea and Stromboli… each 2 hrs plus were too long, and resulted in passengers queuing early and a virtual stampede to get back on the boat. The boat seemed overcrowded and we feel the scheduling of the trip should be adjusted.

      Worst trip ever
Late , overcrowded, rude passengers, too little time in ports vs time spent on the water. People queue up so far in advance of departure to ensure they get the best seats. If you follow the directions of the tour guides you’ll get there too late and you’ll be running around asking and pleading for someone to give you somewhere to sit.

Too much driving and not enough time at each location! Also, Taormina is too far to make this tour to Agrigento and September is too hot in Sicily.

      Temples a Must See
Valley of the Temples 10 pts Wonderful Guide Villa Romana 5 pts However it was a long ride from Taormina. The bus was air conditioned, but the seats too small and uncomfortable for my 6”1” frame, especially when the rider in front moved their seat back. Also by the time we arrived at the villa I was dog tired. Also the bathrooms adjacent to the Villa in the white building/restaurant/bar were absolutely filthy with broken seats and no paper.

We arrived at 10:15 at Porta Messinai Pizzeria right on the junction. Luca the host gave a great welcome and provided a drink some strawberries, cherries and biscotti. We were given an apron which was a souvenir to be taken away. We then made some bread. Whilst that was baking we made macaroni. Once the bread was done we sat and ate that with some cheese , salami etc with a drink ( wine ,soft drinks). We made pizza dough and then made the pizzas from previously proved dough and placed them in the ovens. We then sat and had our pizzas s, the macaroni, and cannoli . we were given more drinks and lenoncello and coffee if we wanted it!! An enjoyable few hours. Thanks to Luca and his team and to Kim, Petr , Laura and Erik who were on the same course

The class itself was lots of fun. We loved making, and eating, our pizzas and would recommend. The problem was the poor- no, non-existent- communication. We started contacting Viator via the information listed 3 months early asking if we could do it this tour via cruise ship. No response to multiple requests. So we finally booked it a few days before hoping then we could get through. No response. We finally got information from the cruise ship indicating that the Porta Messina where we meet it not the same as the Porta Messina where we dock so tried to cancel but by then it was too late. Sooo, we went for it anyway. We got off the ship at 9:30 am, walked to the train station and bought a ticket for Taormina, after the 1 hour train ride (17 E) we took a taxi to the meeting point (15 E) turned on our phone (10 E) and called- finally receiving an answer that the restaurant Porta Messina was right there at the arch. We walked in at 11:40, having missed the pasta making but in plenty of time for the pizza class. Had a great time and an adventure to boot so a good day.

We thoroughly enjoyed our half day pizza course. We also made bread and pasta.
Lots of hands on participation, choosing our own pizza toppings and baking it in the stone oven was amazing!
My only reason for not giving a 5 was that they did not pass on the recipes, as advised, via email.

We went to this class to learn how to make pizza. We spent the first 1 1/2 hours having coffee and then making macaroni which is not what we wanted to do. Then we mixed up some pizza dough but this wasn't used to make our pizzas so we have no idea whether it was any good or not. They had some premade dough that we used and then all the toppings including the sauce was premade and ready for us. The pizza was good but the teaching was non-existent.

Hello Donna G, we are so sorry to read your review about the Pizza Making Class. We are actually very surprised since it is the first unsatisfactory review we have received considering that this season we have organized over a 1000 Pizza Making Classes. Regarding the maccaroni preparation, we thought that was a "plus", probably for you it was not. We hope for a next time! All the best, Guest Relations Manager SAT Group

Fun morning at Ristorante Porta Messina cooking pizza, bread and macaroni. Welcomed with few fresh fruit, biscotti and drinks. Enjoyed the morning of baking and lots of food. Learned a few things about how to improve on my pizza back in UK. The kids also learned a bit about cooking which will be useful to them and enjoyed the morning. Somewhat expensive for family of four but worth it with all the food you eat.

So easy to sign up. Went to Porta Messina at the appointed time and someone walked us to the pizzeria to start our class. We started off with coffee, some delicious biscotti and very tasty fresh strawberries. Then we proceeded to make bread, panini for the restaurant and hand made macaroni for Macaroni Norma. Then we took a little break and were served an appetizer of cheese, sun-dried tomatoes salami and wine.

Then started the pizza making. After preparing the dough we got to choose our toppings and put our pizza in the oven. While waiting for the pizzas to cook, the master pizza maker gave us a pizza throwing demonstration.

Once our pizzas were ready they added olive oil, basil, and oregano and we sat down and were also served bread, wine and a wonderful Macaroni Norma. The sauce was so good!! To complete the meal they brought us cannoli and lemoncielo. The cannoli was the best I have ever tasted!

All in all it was probably the highlight of my trip and our teacher Luca made the class fun and was very helpful.

My friend and I feel so lucky that we signed up for this class! The entire staff works to make you feel welcome, the class is organized and fun. In addition, breaks are built in to enjoy bread, cheese, wine and the new friends you’ll make. Luca was our instructor and he showed patience and humor. We culminated our class with a feast of the pizza and handmade noodles we created. The class was topped off by being able to take our aprons home. A definite winner for money well spent!
