We spontaneously decided to visit Etna during our short stay in Catania. We went on a tour some years ago during our previous stay so this time we chose the sunset tour. Etna was rather active during our stay and we hoped that it will bring additional value. And we were right.
First of all, our guide Gaetano was an experience in itself. Wonderful guide, who wanted to share as much of his knowledge about volcanos in general and Etna in particular. He took special care for English speaking passengers as well as French-speaking ones. He gave a special flair to this half-day excursion. We also had a chance to go on a very short hike over collateral craters and a short amateur speleological walk through one of the lava tunnels, even crawling through cracks in the Earth.
At the end of the day, Gaetano took us to a special place to observe the sunset and served some sweets and wine. However, what was more spectacular was watching eruptions and spraying lava coming from the crater. As the darkness set it was all much more visible and absolutely breathtaking.
I couldn't recommend enough this tour. Sunset in itself is already a reason to go, but if you happen to be there when Etna is showing its show, it is absolute top experience.

This was an amazing afternoon and evening - very smoothly run, highly knowledgeable tour guide (Daniele), and a great trip around Etna! Only thing to bear in mind is that the sunset tour we did only had about an hour of actual hiking - worth clarifying if you’re looking for a more substantial trek!

The excursion is very well organized: they pick you up at your hotel and they will also return you there. The tour is quite complete, very nice views of the craters. The hiking can be done with kids, it only lasts about 40 minutes. We were visiting in July, so we only needed a light jacket during the sunset. And what really made the experience so great was our guide, Matteo, who not only had -as a vulcanologist- large knowledge of the matter, but also was very helpful and friendly, and took care of all the group. Wonderful day!

We took the Sunset tour of Etna on the last day of our visit to Sicily and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I always find with tours that it is so important to have a good guide as they really make the difference in how much fun everybody has. My family and I had a wonderful time and Luca(our guide) was great fun and knowledgable.
I highly recommend this visit.

Etna Staff had multiple times contact with me to arrange the Trip to Mount Etna in order to give us the best experience. Due to deteriorating weather conditions the advise was to go in the morning. Which was a good decision. The guide Filippo was very informative about all kinds of things to be known on the road to Etna, as well as the hike on Etna itself. Very professional and worth the price!
