Etna at 3,000 metres is worth the visit and this tour group is fantastic.
I did the 3,000 metre excursion, the highest available at the time. A truly fantastic experience. There was enough walking even after the cable car & bus took us as high as they are allowed to go. The guide was very knowledgeable about the volcanoe evolution and erruption history of the volcanoe and types of lave & rock formations. Thoroughly enjoyable and eductational. Great views and perspective of Sicilia from the top & on the way back down. I also recommend taking the provided jacket & boots.

      Stunning. A must.
It was an amazing tour. Clara took us on a private hike on a day with significant volcanic activity. It was truly awesome as we could hear a lot of roars coming straight from the volcano. Our safety was clearly given the uttermost consideration and the tour was adapted to reflect the correct level of security. Clara was Ana amazing guide showing us many peculiarities of the ever changing volcano. We ate lunch at 3,000m and it was truly wonderful. Could not recommend more.

Once in a lifetime etna summit crateres tour
Amazing tour. We did the one exploring the summit crateres, worth doing it. The two guides were very friendly and we had nice explanation about the different crateres, rock types … we could also see explosions a the top!!

      Such an amazing experience!
The guide provided us a safe tour, despite of the weather condition ( windy). He has a incredible knowledge of the Etna and he answered all of our questions during the visit. I recommend it! Thanks for all. Lari- Brazil

      Amazing Etna
We had been near Etna twice before, and I was determined to go on an expedition this trip. We had an excellent multilingual guide, with tours on our day offered in Italian, English, and French. We hiked up close enough to see active volcanic venting and explosions, in addition to evidence of prior eruptions, lava tubes, cinder cones, etc. The tour begins well up the mountain, which we drove to, about an hour from Catania. They did have boots, helmets and jackets for those who needed them. I would recommend for anyone with contact lenses, particularly hard lenses like I require, to bring some sort of goggles or windproof sunglasses, as the wind and volcanic dust was a bit challenging for me in the afternoon on the descent back to the gondola

      Great moment
Great moment . Some of them were a bit afraid with the difficulty. But it was ok. The guide stop the climbing many times to give explications. Not the good moment ( 18/08) so a lot of people.

      Very nice experience
Very nice experience with our guide, who was totally friendly and helpful and was able to answer every question. Also the equipment (shoes, socks, backpack, jacket) suited very good to the level of the tour. The only potential for optimation we saw is to make smaller groups in order to shorten the duration of waiting. We were glad to have booked this tour and do absolutely recommend it.

      Great overall experience, highly recommend!
Great overall experience from making the reservation, arriving at the location, the tour of the Etna and the goodbye. Would highly recommend and they do go the extra mile to make your encounter with the Etna area an impressive one. Beforehand communication was very efficient, complete and friendly. Arriving at the location was very organized as well. They welcomed us, told us were to park and helped us with shoes, socks and a jacket. Also informed us where we could buy take away lunch and what time we were leaving. The Etna tour was impressive and a nice adventure. They take you on a route that you would never be able to find or do without a proper guide. Speaking of which, Marco was fantastic! Knowledgeable, patient, helpful, very responsible and really passionate about his job and his work area. The group was about 11 people, so perfect. We have seem beautiful landscapes and took interesting (and for me sometimes a bit challenging route, but I'm not used to anything) It all was very well organized, which I appreciate a lot, as it is a one time experience so you do want to know exactly what the tour looks like, what you need and what to expect. If you want to have the perfect Etna experience, book here. It is so worth it.

Very Nice trek as far as it was authorized (2900m). The guide was great, speaking Italian, English and a bit of French. Don't forget to take cash to pay the excursion. I do recommend.

      Exciting but worth it
Thank you for the beautiful and exciting trip. The hike (in the snow) was tough, the pace of the group was high. But the views are worth it. Guiseppe is an experienced, nice and caring tour guide and gave everyone the attention and information they required. We had an amazing day!

      Fantastic experience with Giuseppe!
My daughter and I had a fantastic experience with Guide Alpine and Giuseppe. The weather was challenging and you could tell they were not cutting any corner on security, constantly monitoring the evolution and making sure we we always safe. Giuseppe is very knowledgeable and passionate about Etna. He made the experience fun, we saw a lot and learned a lot. I greatly recommend them they made our visit memorable in a challenging weather. Thank you Giuseppe!

Felt like I was touring the Moon!
You can't go to Sicily and not experience Mt Etna! What an amazing tour. I felt like I was hiking on the moon! While admittedly more strenuous than I expected (I am near 60 in pretty good health), I am thrilled I took this tour. Giuseppe was an excellent guide sharing his vast knowledge of the volcano along the hike, while keeping a careful watch on the hikers. I tracked about 6 miles of walking on the hike, including some steep hills up and down, so I don't recommend this tour for the unfit or elderly. Amazing views of the craters and valley along Mt Etna with fascinating stories along the way. Boots (a must) and socks provided for free, and you can rent a coat for a nominal fee if you are not dressed properly. Be sure to bring water and pack a lunch. You can also buy water and lunch at the top of the funivia before beginning your hike. A truly unforgettable experience!

      Great tour
We did the 3000 m tour since the top crater is closed. I can very much recommend taking this tour. If you come to Sicily it is a must do! Our tourguide Giuseppa A. is a geologist and has profound knowledge about volcanos. During the tour he explained to us how and when the Etna erupts. The tour lasted about 5h and the view was spectacular. My personal highlight was the "valle del bove". Splendid!

One of the better etna hiking deals
A very informative Etna hike. The guide was very informative in English as well as Italian. All equipment which we needed were supplied, such as shoes and helmets. Included the cable car and 4x4 jeep ride up (not down). Communication beforehand with Giuseppe was excellent, he arranged for us to be able to participate at last moment's notice which was a relief.

Let's start by saying that any type of excursion you choose will certainly be an unforgettable experience.
A group of professional guides will accompany you safely for a few hours to discover Etna. The participation fee includes the rental of a backpack, windproof jacket and boots, passage by cable car and passage with 4x4 Unimog trucks up to an altitude of 3000 and a professional guide .
Our guide Michele conveyed all his passion to us, describing and telling us in understandable terms the curiosities linked to the beautiful route (not too demanding and suitable for everyone) on the slopes of the volcano. Although our group was made up of different nationalities speaking various languages, our Michele was able to lead the group more than admirably to discover the volcano.
I absolutely recommend a guided tour (also because on your own you won't see the hidden beauties of the route proposed by this group of guides)! The excursions leave at 9.30am and last approximately 5 hours.

We were hesitant to go on this hiking because of the price, it came to about €100 per person. However, it was worth it. Our guide, Marco, explained things really well. He also found the right walking tempo for our group which consisted of both children, fit adults, and less experienced hikers. We left the rifugio at 10:30, took the cable car for 15min, then a 4x4 truck for 10min and then set off by foot, arriving back at the cable car at 15:00 and down at the rifugio around 15:30. Of this, about 3hrs was spent walking, with multiple small breaks. Great views, i recommend it.

What an amazing experience just has to be done, I’ve done and seen some great things on this holiday but this caps it. Some may say it’s expensive but it’s a once in a lifetime trip and the infrastructure required is immense.

    Just some info for others
Car park is charged 1/2 day full day €3.50/€6.00
You get tickets at an office just before the cable car station on the right. It was cash only when we visited and there is an ATM near the toilets. Also don’t pay for toilets as there are loads of free ones.

€78 gets you the tour to 3000m which includes cable car, 4x4 to about 2500m then the guide who tells you about everything at 3000m it’s about an hour with the guide.

The tour at the top gives plenty of opportunities for photos and loads of info from the guide about the area. Take note about shoes and jackets it was cold and windy at the top and can rain in an instant. Beware when it’s windy as it can blow the find debris around stings your legs (which is ok) but can get in your eyes so some sunglasses do help.

My partner did the whole trip and let’s say if she can do it so can most people. Although there are paths there is a lot of loose shale so take note of what the guides say and good trainers or hiking boots a must.

There are self guided tours but you’re not allowed over 2500m without a guided and if you’re adventurous you can walk from bottom to top.

Going by other advise you don’t need priority as it doesn’t get you in past the queues you just bypass the queue to get a ticket. From our experience just turn up on the day, we were leaving around 2 and we did notice a lot of the cable cars were going up empty. Last cable car down was 5.15 but that will change to an earlier time soon.

Hope this is of help because it was a little confusing at first.

Although we were there 10 minutes before the meeting point, everything was very disorganized and confusing. After paying for the tour and receiving the equipment, they simply left all participants standing there without any further information. The little information that was available was only given in Italian and French, even though an English-speaking tour had been booked!!!

At the base station, the group was split into French and Italian/English. However, the tour guide spoke 90% of the explanations during the tour in Italian. The tour guide took no account of the speed of the individual people and only kept up his pace, which is why some people could hardly ever take a break. The paths were very narrow (less than 30cm wide) and difficult to manage with the loosening of the barrier.

This made the tour very strenuous. We had to climb at times without help, which is not for people with short legs (e.g. children or older people). We also had to slide down a crater, where our legs were partially submerged up to our knees. The guide ignored criticism from some of the group members and ran ahead. The guide initially said that the group was a family and should always stay together, but he never counted everyone and never checked on people when they fell or were injured. You get the impression that we're making money here.

The only positive thing about the tour was seeing Mount Etna. (That's the reason for 2 stars, otherwise 0 stars).

This is an excursion that you cannot afford to miss. Mount Etna is simply massive and a complete one off. We found the whole experience of organising and getting to the start point very straightforward and the company Gruppo who provided the tour were very very good and made sure we were safe at all times and our guide Luciano was just brilliant. He gave us a running commentary and historical background all day and also allowed plenty of stops for rest and water. He spoke multiple languages fluently and made sure that everybody was understood what he was saying. The views are breathtaking and the experience is very memorable. We all returned to Basecamp filthy but smiling and very humbled by this massive rumbling landmass. If you can afford to do Mount Etna in this way, then you should. I cannot recommend this enough.

Surely the wisest choice to visit Etna is to take a guide. We entrusted ourselves to this professional agency and led by the talented and very nice Giuseppe, we began our tour lasting 5 hours (we booked online) . The excursion begins at the agency's info point, where they gave us suitable shoes (consider that stones will get into you everywhere) and for those who don't have them, jackets suitable for the wind (I also had gloves, hat and scarf and I must say that they were very helpful). With a nice group of hikers and Giuseppe in the stern, we first took the cable car and then a small bus that took us very high towards the top of Etna. From that moment on, we went trekking and skirted the summit points of Etna, the most beautiful area to visit. We walked along the channels carved out by the lava, filled with frozen snow, along incredible points that were super windy but with breathtaking views. Every step was carefully explained to us and I must say that it was not only pleasant but also interesting. It was also fun and relaxing to have lunch (packed breakfast) among the expanses of sand and black stones. On the way back we took both the minibus and the funicular. In short... Highly recommended

The tour was well organized starting with the equipment they provided and ending with the final diploma.
Overall it lasts 4-5 hours with 100 m of ascent (we did not climb the summit craters because of the intense activity of those days) and with lunch break attached.
The 3000 m is felt on the breath especially if you do not do any physical activity, but given the little ascent is feasible for a normal physicist.
We were a couple with girls aged 8 and 11 who behaved very well despite not being hikers.
Great Michael the guide who accompanied us and who took 30 people for a walk even on descents at 45 ° as if nothing had happened.

The trip is fine but it appears you have paid for everything at booking but you have another €45 per person to pay when you get there. We are all very fit and wouldn’t recommend anyone try to walk up without the cable car and 4wd so it is probably the best way of doing it. Guide was good and worked hard.

Our dream was to go on an excursion to Etna but we didn't know which one to take, there are so many. We saw a group of people in front of the mountain guide group's house and we joined them. Our guide Giuseppe was fantastic, competent and patient, we did the 4 hour excursion, not challenging for us because we were trained but not to be underestimated. Remember to bring a technical jacket and boots, however if you don't have them, they provide everything even socks!

The experience turned out to be fantastic. Challenging obviously, but it will also remain etched in the memory of my son who at 8 years old was able to admire His Majesty Etna! The excursion started at 9.30am from Rifugio Sapienza and ended at 3.30pm. Our guides, Mirto & Mirco accompanied us to the summit craters, they were very professional and attentive to the whole group, especially the only child present. Highly recommended! The experience is worth the trip
