About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- mhirsch430 contributionsGreat time under the city of PalermoVisited the Catacombs of Palermo. A good trip made great by an excellent tour guide named Simon. He had a real passion for the subject matter that really made it a memorable day!Written February 4, 2025
- Donna R0 contributionsFabulous tour!Simon was fabulous!!!! The attraction needs a guide to unlock the mysteries. The tour was clearly one of the highlights of Palermo!!!Written November 28, 2024
- Becky N0 contributionsAn amazing experience with Simon!Wow! What a great learning experience. Simon was amazing and so full of information and interesting facts. The catacombs are hard to describe…imagining lives lived. Great tour!Written November 18, 2024
- TAT_100 contributionsSomething you should respectI didn't know what to expect. Mayby something like Cappucini crypta in Roma. It wasn't. This one was catacomb. Dead people hanging walls, not just bones. I found something else. Beautiful Rosalia etc. I wish there would have been a guide, someone telling me what this is and who they were where alive. It should have been a place where you should have been quiet, visitors spoke too loud. It is still a graveyard, not an amusement park.Written October 18, 2024
- Ed W0 contributionsVery interesting and worth your timeFascinating tour of an unusual site. Perhaps not for everyone, given the nature of what you are looking at. The mummified examples of past citizens and dignitaries of Palermo are something you are unlikely to have seen before. The history of this place makes for interesting learning and well worth a look if you are staying in Palermo.Written July 13, 2024
- AcH8710 contributionsGood for a 30 minute lookAn interesting yet macabre experience. Pretty well preserved corpses from hundreds of years ago. Amazing how small people were back then.Written July 6, 2024
- 265shawnak0 contributionsFabulous tour of the catacombs with Simone! We had an amazing tour of the catacombs with Simone. It was our favorite tour in Palermo! Simone was a fantastic guide. We were a mixed group of adults and teenagers and Simone captivated our group with his enthusiasm and stories. I highly recommend Simone as a tour guide!Written June 29, 2024
- Albia-Newton0 contributionsFascinating historical siteMay not be everyone’s idea of an interesting visit The social history here is incredible A unique site and something very differentWritten June 25, 2024
- Andrealynn12000 contributionsWonderful tour by SimonSimon is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history of the catacombs. You can tell how much passion he has for the site, and he seems genuinely excited to educate others on it, even though he’s obviously been many times. I highly recommend choosing Simon, because without a guide, the site can’t be fully appreciated. We arranged a private tour in advance with Simon, who was very easy to coordinate with.Written May 25, 2024
- O672DUheidit0 contributionsGreat tour, great guideBrilliant tour, Simon the guide was really knowledgeable and you can tell he loves his job. Everything is very thoroughly explained and it is very interesting. It is well worth having a guide so you can really appreciate the history behind the people there, as this would be difficult from just looking around. Again, great tour and would definitely recommend if you want to gain a proper understanding and appreciation for the catacombsWritten May 7, 2024
- X9167MFpatricial0 contributionsA wonderful experienceSimon was remarkable! Despite technical problems (not his fault) He made it all happen! He is delightful and informative!Written April 22, 2024
- benjaminw7970 contributionsan absolute must-see attraction. This is an absolute must-see place but be forewarned: it is very creepy, probably the creepiest and most disturbing thing I've ever seen in real life. There are tombs and mummies in other places, including the Cistine Chapel, Egyptian mummies, etc. But this place is the creepiest.Written April 9, 2024
- anavaquer0 contributionsThis a very unique experience you should not miss! This is a very unique experience, but it may not be for everyone. Definitely do not bring young children. I did not have any problems walking through the crypt, even by myself. There are over 2,000 embalmed mummies in various states of decay, including the famous Rosalia Lombardo, called the Sleeping Beauty of Palermo. The oldest body is Brother Silvestro from 1599, and is immediately to your left and above you as you enter. I watched a travel show on TV before visiting that went through many corridors and explained the purpose of the crypt. One of the Capuchin monks explained on the show that our time on earth is short and what really matters is what comes next. These 'bodies without souls" as they call them, are a reminder that we are all mortal. Explained by one of the monks. For him being with all these bodies brings him joy and peace as it causes him to focus not on our earthly existence but on eternity. I don't know if this helps while you see this place, but I am passing it on. I wanted to take a tour with one of the online tour companies, but there was a three person minimum. A tour might have made the experience more meaningful. It still was quite interesting for me.Written April 8, 2024
- NataliaD D0 contributionsStrange and spooky but worth a visitVery strange and spooky experience but would definitely recommend. Not for very sensitive people. I would also strongly suggest avoiding taking children with you (we saw a few bizarre mums with little kids walking around dead bodies and mummies... I was shocked that parents like that exist).Written March 17, 2024
- happytraveler7930 contributionsGuide make the experinece much more meaningfulSimon was a wonderful guide and made the experience special. He has extensive knowledge of the catacombs and provides great history of both the location and those who are buried there. We found this tour very interesting and we were glad whe had Simon to guide us and teach us.Written March 10, 2024

Our guide, Simon, had an expert knowledge of the history of Monreale cathedral and cloisters. A passionate historian, he was both engaging and enthusiastic and no question was left unanswered. The cathedral and cloisters are beautiful and we highly recommend this tour and our guide.

Simone was a fantastic guide. His passion for history and the Monreale Cathedral, cloisters and terrace that we visited made the complex come alive. His knowledge was extensive and approach friendly, relaxed, thorough but highly professional. An extremely valuable and informative experience.
