- Mikelmore940 contributionsGuided hike near Etna summit downhill in AugustDue to the recent eruptions, it was unfortunately forbidden to hike to the summit crater. It was offered to us to get a reduced guided tour instead. The peak craters could still be observed from a save distance. Afterwards the tour continued along multiple older and smaller craters as well as lava caves downhill to the start point. I can absolutely recommend the tour. The guide was very friendly, professional and provided multiple historical and geological information and about local flora and fauna. The view during the whole tour was absolutely stunning and a memory which we will not forget.Written August 31, 2024

- neildV877TI0 contributionsBucket List!Brilliant, do it if you're reasonably fit. We maybe got lucky as strombolic activity started 6 days before our hike, so we saw actual eruptions (fire and rocks!), but worth it even without that. We are 59 and 61 and were worried initially at the physicality of it and the reduction in effective oxygen at that height. My partner faltered at one point but a motivational talk helped her on and she didn't regret it!. Great guides with multiple languages, you're hiking for over 3 hours but at least you get to wee on a volcano!Written July 2, 2024
- katywT9155IM0 contributionsExcursion to the summit craters at sunset with eruption!I did not come to Sicily prepared to hike up a volcano, but when we heard it was erupting we had to join a tour. Kit was available to loan to get us up to the top and we were blown away by the experienced guides who were able to get us safely up and back down a volcano while it was erupting, so we could see this once in a lifetime sight! Amazing!Written July 1, 2024

- Sherpa342184758070 contributionsHow often do you get to look into an active volcano?A very special experience. The hike to the summit had astonishing views. The hike down was also thoroughly enjoyable, navigating through soft volcanic soil. At no point did we ever feel unsafe. These guides are extremely professional, knowledgeable, and concerned for your safety. Our English speaking guide, Vincenzo, had a great sense of humor and was full of stories from his childhood in Sicily. So much fun! This was so worth it and truly a highlight of our trip to Sicily.Written June 17, 2024
- 198bernadetteb0 contributionsSurreal and beautifulThis was an incredible and very surreal experience. Really hard to believe I’ve been there, especially when I look up from my room in Linguaglossa and see the beautiful Etna. It definitely was challenging so make sure you like hiking - uphill and at high altitudes and going downhill, at times quite steep and through soft streams of lava/ash. I think the author John Steinbeck’s quote describes the experience perfectly; “it is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.”Written June 12, 2024
- robintU6145AI0 contributionsFantastic views of Etna with a enthusiastic guide.Today was a perfect day to visit Etna. The weather was really good and we got to see all the craters. The expedition was well organized. Only downside was that our group consistent of 3 languages. The guide had to explain everything 3 times and that took a while. Would be more efficient to try to put languages together.Written June 8, 2024
- melwandersfar0 contributionsBest tour of Mount EtnaIncredible tour run by knowledgable guides who are passionate about volcanoes and geography. I especially appreciated how flexible they were given the unpredictable weather; we could change our tour date to another time that suited us better when the chance of storms was less. We experienced the magic of Mount Etna by hiking up with our guide and learning about the history and geography of the volcano. Would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to visit Etna with the help of experts.Written June 6, 2024

Of course the crater was great, but the hiking was like going up, quickly take a picture and running down, the guide always far in front not caring for the group, especially after we saw the crater and went back. No time for admiring the landscape. If you just want to see the crater, go for it, if you want to experience nature don’t . 1500 m running down in 2 1/2 hours, don’t understand why this hectic stuff. But I Guess all tourists tours are pretty much like that

Dear Sir, Madam,
quality control is of utmost importance to us, so in order to verify what has happened during your tour, we kindly ask you to send us an email with further details (name of the guide, date of the excursion, your name...) Also please specify which tour exactly you did: in your comment you seem to talk about the summit crater tour, but in the title it says 2002 Crater excursion... To us it seems unusual that the guide didn't give you enough time to enjoy the landscape, to admire the top crater and especially didn't take care of the group, as you've stated in your review.... We only do the summit crater excursion with a limited number of people, never more than 10 to 15 persons per guide, exactly because we want to realize a personalized experiece and not a mass tourist attraction. Thank you in advance and best regards, team Guide Vulcanologiche Etna Nord

What to say to describe it, if you come in Sicily you must do this experience. The guide Vincenzo is an incredible and passionate guy which share with everyone his love and passion for what he does. The information are delivered in a funny and interesting way which makes them attractive even for low or no passionate in volcano's topic. Vincenzo is going to brought you in some incredible spot with views that remind of the Moon. The experience is ideal for low trained people since it lasts 3 hours and covers 5 km distance in total. It's the perfect way to start discovering Etna. Nature, woods, flowers, astonishing views and a lot of things I just did not know and that Vincenzo taught us. Thank u

Perfect trip to visit the volcano and learn about Etna. We had a lovely and knowledgeable guide, the walk was spot on for us as a family with kids aged 13yrs and 10yrs old - very manageable and fun on the way down. Would recommend it for those wanting to experience Etna beyond just viewing it!

We joined a small group (about 10 people) with guide Domenico. We knew the weather would be tricky, with low hanging cloud and high winds. However, that did give you a true sense that you were on top of a rather high mountain - so we took it in our stride. Domenico was excellent, explaining a variety of things about vulcanos, craters etc. The walk was releatviely easy in principle, but with the wind, rain and clouds it became quite strenous in the end. It was a fantastic 2.5 hours spent climbing in a quite surreal vulcanic environment, with the view on the edge of the crater as the highlight (and the sun came out).
Very well organised and guided trip, great value for money!

We didn't know what to expect, but it seemed wrong to visit Linguaglossa and not see Mount Etna up close. The enthusiasm of our guide, Vincenzo, about Mount Etna and vulcanology in general, was addictive. As we hiked he showed us examples and explained difficult to grasp concepts in a non-nerdy way.
The tour was just the right length for an introduction, but it did whet our appetite to go to the summit. When we do, we will go with Guide Vulcanogoliche Etna again!

We booked the tour the afternoon before in a super fast and easy way. No payment in advance needed, just paying after the tour directly to the guide.
Vincenzo was our host and he was magnificent, guiding us, explaining everything clearly and talking about personal experiences and other off-topic stuff like mushroom hunting :)
It was an splendid tour, 100% recommended and with technical and scientifical explanations from a geologist.

We were able to book this tour very last minute through the agriturismo we were staying at. We didn’t know what to expect but it was an amazing experience! It was great to see how passionate our guide Vincenzo talked about this topic. When you know nothing about vulcanos, it seems like it’s just a bunch of black stones, yet it turns out every stone has it’s own story and it was very interesting to listen to Vincenzo’s explanation. We would definitely recommend this tour to everyone! It’s at a tourist level, which makes it an easy to follow tour for everyone. Three hours was perfect for us, as we combined it with a wine tasting afterwards. 10/10

We took our tour with Giuseppe M. 6 kids on board, our guide was very kind, attentive and well prepaired. For those who are in doubt: it does make sense to choose a guided tour on Etna instead of on your own because of all the explanations and the best spots / route you get. Highly recommend this tour!

We appreciated the variety of the things we saw: the plants, the views, the divers types of soil and of corse the craters. This tour brings you to the lateral craters: beautufull and a real Etna experience. We are a family of 3, with an 11 year old kid: this tour by foot was perfect for us. The guide (Daniele) gave good information: the tour was both beautifull and educational.
