      The heart to Etna
Our wonderful guide Augusto took us by car and on foot through amazing sceneries, sharing with us his remarkable knowledge on botany, zoology, geology, history and greek mythology. We loved being deep among a cloud of ginestra plants, with their overpowering scent, expanding our view over il Bove, and then the Silvestri craters, and culminating the experience with a sunset view, while enjoying delicious biscotti regina and local licoeur. We recommend this experience as the best and most fun and informational way to get to know Etna.

      Unforgettable experience with our group
Our group had a wonderfull experience thanks to Marghertia and Ernesto of Etna guided tours. We booked a customized tour with a group of 58 people and they managed very well to have a great experience for everyone. All communication in advance went very well, and they answered all questions very quickly even in high season, with all enthousiasm. They went the extra mile to bring our group some sicilian pastries and making such great pictures of our group. We also booked a dinner at a winery with a winetasting via them. This was such a beautiful place. Also the transport of our group was very well arranged by them as well. I would 100% reccomend this experience to everyone.

Unacceptable behaviour. The guy never showed up
We had the worst experience. We booked the tour with Ernesto, he mentioned we had to meet him at a different place and not our hotel as it is mentioned in the brochure for the asked price. We let it go, but when we reached the agreed place on the agreed time he didn't show up. When we texted him, he read the messages but did not respond. We also called him a bunch of times, but he did not answer. We waited for him at least half an hour...still waiting. We had to plan again our visit to Etna with a different agency at the last time, paying more and having the frustration that almost ruined our day. This is unacceptable. Total waste of time and money.

      Great tour, good company
Ernesto was very knowledgeable, friendly and made us laugh :) it was a great excursion, we did not go where all the tourists went so that was another good thing. Plus the unexpected landing. Great day! I highly recommend booking a tour with Ernesto.

Excellent trip with amazing tour guide!
We were picked up by Marco from our hotel early in the morning and the atmosphere was great! Marco was very friendly and was very kind to stop on the way for some coffee and sandwiches for the trek. We were provided with professional trekking gear (boots, sticks, jackets and backpacks) which has made it more comfy as the temperature and weather was changing all the time! Marco has a lot of passion and knowledge and we have learned a lot during our trip! We also went to see the caves which was a bit scary ( a bit claustrophobic ) , but we felt very safe in Marco's hands :) Overall it was great! Marco is super intelligent, funny and interesting person! We were very lucky to have him as our tour guide! Thanks again for an amazing day Marco! We hope to see you again when we visit Sicily in the future!

      Amazing Etna
Marco, our guide picked us up from the B&B. he is very experienced and knowledgeable about the volcano. He has gear in his car for all of us. Took us hiking off the usual paths. He speaks English very well and is a fun guy. he also took us inside a lava cave, it was really amazing.

      Great trip on Etna
Great trip. Quite difficult terrain as there was still snow on some of the paths and coming back down was tricky on some areas of lava sand. Good, knowledgeable guide who was very conscientious about safety. Small group of 7 . My husband and I are getting on a bit - nearly 70 - and the rest of the group were fitter and a lot younger but he was very good at making sure we were alright. The climb was well worth the view at the top.

      Walk the Unique Walk
If you are able to walk and enjoy nature. you will see a different nature and a different walk, even if you have done other volcanoes before. It is a small group that will take you to the right places and you will walk instead of using the lifts. This is for people who enjoy participating and not being driven. Even though you will be driven in a 4x4 vehicle. Ernesto was attentive, safe. you will see a lava tunnel, panoramic views that you will only know about only if you have a lot of time to research on your own. My time was well spent, and that is a resource I cherish while on vacation. we did not want to drive in Sicily and this was a great way to get there without having to rent one. the excursion includes a ride in areas that only a 4x4 can do.

Due to physical problem, Ernesto had to organize an alternative program, what he did with best skills and great variety.
We spent some most interesting hours together with Ernest and Marco. The highlight was without any doubts "la caldera del diabolo". For once one did not have the feeling to move "on the beaten (tourist) walk". Those two guys are among the best!!

Fab trip to Mount Etna area
Did the half day experience and lucky enough to have Marco as our tour guide. His English was excellent and geological knowledge of the area. Take good walking shoes and a sweatshirt for the trek as its v windy and chilly at the top. Views are amazing. The caving part is also interesting and not difficult to climb in to at all. Had lovely lunch provided on the way down. Recommend with children. Take plenty of water and remember you are at high altitude and can feel a little light headed if you climb up to the tops.

      Great Hiking
this tour was recommended by our b&b. We don't like tours and were very skeptical. Happily we were proven wrong!!!! Ernesto is a very knowledgeable guide. He took us off the beaten path and explained the history of the mountain. We wanted to hike and he did his best to challenge our stamina. This is a no frills adventure. Anybody that wants to avoid the gaggle of tourists and busses need to give Ernesto a call. GREAT TRIP!!!!!

This tour was not as described. Its description suggests it is not a large bus tour. In fact it was. I was asked to be at pick up point at 8. 30. Our guide did not arrive til 8.45. In that time a small group of us had seen another company picking up small groups with individual drivers and we expected the same. Instead we were loaded onto a big coach. This proceeded to travel around the city picking people up. I spent 2 hrs on the bus. The coach was full, in fact, two people had to stand. We eventually started hiking 3hrs after our pick up time. Although we did see most of what was described by the tour, due to the 50+ people in the group there was an incredible amount of stopping and a slow pace. On most of the stops nothing was said by the guide with many left wondering what was going on. The guide's explanation of Etna and the volcanic area was detailed and descriptive but passing a phone around to show pictures amongst a large group did not work.

The previous day I had asked the guide in a message, what time we would return to Catania. I was informed 4 o'clock. I believed I would have plenty of time in hand, so I booked a street food tour for 6 o'clock. As we had not left Etna at 4.20 I did not believe I would make it in time with all the drop offs the bus would have to do. I pressured the guide and a minibus for myself and others that had to be back in Catania was organised thankfully.

The description also mentions 4x4 vehicles gaining access to areas that you can't get to by coach, I saw none of these. Despite Etna itself being an incredibly breathtaking place the day was overall very frustrating.

We ended up going on the tour on a very windy day. Before we started the tour the tour guide said we might not even be able to do the hike because it was so windy. However with no explanation we did the hike anyway. It became clear that it was too windy for us to be on the mountain. A woman in our group ended up falling a number of times. One time having to be held on to so that she did not fall down the mountain. It was very scary the whole time and the tour guide was consistently far ahead of the group. I would recommend this trip only if you are able to go on a day with low wind.

I'm sorry you didn't immediately explain your difficulties. We are used to going on excursions in all weather conditions, it has never happened that someone got scared like you write and didn't say anything to the guide. We are usually very attentive to the whole group and especially to those who demonstrate the most difficulties.

Absolutely fantastic trip. After being picked up at the meeting point in Catania, Ernesto drove us to a village at the bottom of Etna where we stopped to grab a sandwich and drinks. From here we then drove up to a parking area about half way up. After making sure everyone was wearing suitable shoes (and loaning out if not), everyone had wind jackets, rucksacks, basically everything we might need, we set off. It's immediately apparent that this isn't a trek following a footpath at all. Some other reviews mention the group being too quick and being left behind, but understand this is an off the track trek, with poles which you'll most likely need to use. At times we were walking diagonally across ash where for every 3 steps uphill we'd slide down 2. Absolutely fantastic experience, great guides including Ernesto. We stopped at an area with an amazing view for lunch, before descending, which included running down a section. Had to stop a few times to empty hiking shoes which filled up with bits of ash and rock, but thoroughly enjoyed the trip. We walked a total of 5km, which didn't seem that far, but with 460m of ascent where the ground was similar to walking on sand dunes. Highly recommended day out, don't forget sunscreen and make sure you at least have a base level of fitness.

The trip itself was nice, the guides were well informed and well equipped.
Due to weather issues (very f.ing windy), we could not go the the main crater& did for some reason not visit the lava cave.

On the downside we didnt really know what were going to do after and were brought to a really expensive and touristic place without being asked if we wanted to.

Dear Guest, I'm glad you enjoyed the trip. To be precise, the summit craters of Etna (3.300mt) are forbidden by an ordinance due to the strong volcanic activity of the last years. It is not specified when it will be reachable again. So it wasn't just the wind. Moreover that one is a very heavy hiking, definitely not for everybody. On the tour you've booked with us is expressly written what kind of activity and service we offer, and you may ask any kind of info before booking it. I'm glad to remind you that the price you've paid includes the naturalistic guide service, the transportation, the equipment and the insurance. Nothing of that you have experiencing it on your own. At the end of the hiking, we go often to the touristic station just to relax a bit, use the toilettes etc. No one obliges guests to buy food & drinks there. Doing an activity in a group means that organisers have to consider different needs and points of view of the entire group and every single component of the group could adapt or not, depending on the circumstances but this normally is not a matter for complains.

Had a perfect time. Ernesto picked us from B&B from Catania. Both Marcus and Ernesto were very experienced and professional guides making sure every member of the tour were safe. Marcus told a lot historical information about Etna, also explained how volcanos work. Nor forgetting his sense of humour! Very tasteful and sensibly included in conversations! Had an amazing half day surrounded by miracle Etnas views...

This is a great way to get a taste of exploring Mt. Etna. Pickup was easy, the ride to the start of the hike was interesting (with a stop on the way to buy food and water) and our guide Alessio was passionate about the land he said he loves. We learned about vulcanology, botany, and geology from him. The hike was moderately strenuous (for this 80 year old, anyway) and Alessio was a great leader. Highly recommended. Take seriously the advice about good shoes/boots (high topped best). Tour provides walking sticks and they’re very helpful.

I would recommend the adventurous hike to anyone considering it, including members of my own family visiting later this year. The route was challenging but never felt unsafe or like a chore. Alessio was a fun guide with a lot of knowledge about local nature and history (and spoke impeccable English)

Really good hiking program on Etna. The guides are friendly and told is interesting facts about the vulcano. The hike itself is easy, takes roughly 3 hours with a lot of stops when you can rest. Prepare for the unprwdictable weather, we started in sunshihe and shirts and endid up in jackets and hail 🙂 100% recommend

We arranged pick up from our hotel in Catania. We travel by minibus to Etna to meet the rest of the group around 15 with Ernesto and 2 other guides. We did feel under dressed without hiking gear .Up to Etna base camp and we were supplied with shoes poles fleeces waterproofs .We were well briefed on what was to come . Although our group of 4 were not seasoned hikers the guides waited for us and we never lagged too far behind .They were informative and passionate about the flora and fauna around Etna .A thoroughly immersive experience . We did feel at first that we had probably overreached but really enjoyed the trek Etna scree running two pair of 60 year olds has given us memories we will not forget. Thanks from Les, Alison .Lesley and Arture.

Vaya artista que es Ernesto! We had so much fun, amazing views and very knowledgeable guides, we felt very safe all the excursion. First Sicilian to use turning lights ever I think!
We went to see the views of the Caldera that was impressive, it was a good hike but we never felt rushed and we did it just fine at our own pace. Constanza was another star, very funny and caring person. We hope we can repeat the experience again in the future. We highly recommend it. Aah almost forgot, easy pick-up point, Roman amphitheatre, not like other tours that is chaos.

    Ernesto nos vemos pronto amigo!
