Etna Excursions from Catania

Select Date and Travelers
2 travelers
Mount Etna is the highest active stratovolcanoe in the world.

We propose to spend a day with us and a small friendly group to discover a beautiful nature, endemic flora and fauna, cinder cones and lava caves of Mount Etna.

We will pick you up in the morning with our 4 wheel drives or minivan to reach the altitude of 2.000 above sea level.

At this altitude we will start our moderate hike off the beaten tracks (approx. 2 hours) to admire the fascinating landscape of the Valle del Bove, the biggest caldera of Mount Etna and its moon like deserts. From there we will enjoy breathtaking views of the summit smocking craters and the surrounding landscapes facing the Ionian Sea.

The tour also includes the exploration of a lava tube to experience a natural phenomenon created when the surface lava solidified but magma continued to flow into the tunnel.

Departure from Catania. Tour available all year long.
  • Hike through the Vale del Bove, a striking, lesser-known geological area
  • Travel in a smaller vehicle to reach areas of Etna that are inaccessible to larger transport
  • Enjoy personalized attention from your guide on a small-group tour
  • Round-trip transportation from Catania
What to Expect
Begin with pickup at a central Catania hotel in a 4WD vehicle or minivan and set off for Etna. Arrive at the volcano and drive up to about 6,560 feet (2,000 meters) above sea level. Your vehicle takes you to areas inaccessible to large transport.

Then, take a moderate hike through the Valle del Bove, a horseshoe-shaped depression more than 3,280 feet (1,000 meters) deep. See the moon-like desert and the surrounding landscapes facing the Ionian Sea. Your guide tells you about the geology of the local area.

Afterward, don a helmet and explore a lava tube.

Finally, make the journey back to Catania and get dropped off at your original departure point.

I think they mean any hotel in central catania. You just have to call Ernesto and let him know where you are staying and he'll pick you up.
