About
Large bus tours usually take visitors to the Etna visitor center and easily accessible craters, but this tour offers a small, personalized exploration of other parts of the mountain. Travel in a 4WD vehicle or minivan to areas inaccessible by larger transport, and visit the Valle del Bove, a canyon-like depression with an interesting landscape, and the Silvestri Craters. The tour also includes exploration of a lava cave.

I am myself from Catania and already had similar experience, but I can sincerely say that this is surely the best tour offered on the Aetna! Super reliable and expert guide, great value for money, very efficient organisation, totally customisable trips and unforgettable moments and views up on the volcano. As a group of 7, we climbed the volcano with the amazing guide Ernesto on the 26th of Dec 2019. We left before 9 am from our homes in Catania, where Ernesto came to pick us up with his jeep. Along the drive, Ernesto Stooped for us to have breakfast and buy some awesome paninis in the beautiful village of Milo. He took time to answer many of our questions on the volcano and the natural park itself, explaining in detail (in both Italian and English to our multilingual group) the geological history of and some curiosities on, the Aetna. He also gave us a choice of different paths and itineraries so as to cater to our needs and requests. We chose to go visit the 2002 craters. A relatively easy itinerary that provides scenic views to both experts and beginners. The walk lasted until around 4pm including the lunch break on top, and then he drove us all back to Catania. Not all of us had the necessary equipment, so he provided shoes, walking sticks and other useful equipment to have a safe and dry walk on the snow. Overall exceeding all of our high expectations, Ernesto has proved a truly friendly and reliable expert, who we thank dearly for the great day he let us have! Thank you so much! We will definitely be back for new volcanic adventures!

The trip itself was nice, the guides were well informed and well equipped.
Due to weather issues (very f.ing windy), we could not go the the main crater& did for some reason not visit the lava cave.

On the downside we didnt really know what were going to do after and were brought to a really expensive and touristic place without being asked if we wanted to.

Dear Guest, I'm glad you enjoyed the trip. To be precise, the summit craters of Etna (3.300mt) are forbidden by an ordinance due to the strong volcanic activity of the last years. It is not specified when it will be reachable again. So it wasn't just the wind. Moreover that one is a very heavy hiking, definitely not for everybody. On the tour you've booked with us is expressly written what kind of activity and service we offer, and you may ask any kind of info before booking it. I'm glad to remind you that the price you've paid includes the naturalistic guide service, the transportation, the equipment and the insurance. Nothing of that you have experiencing it on your own. At the end of the hiking, we go often to the touristic station just to relax a bit, use the toilettes etc. No one obliges guests to buy food & drinks there. Doing an activity in a group means that organisers have to consider different needs and points of view of the entire group and every single component of the group could adapt or not, depending on the circumstances but this normally is not a matter for complains.

Very professional service. The Etna tour was definitely the highlight of our trip in Sicily. Ernesto did a very good job. There were only 3 of us guided by him, so a private tour was actually a very special experience. We saw many other groups on the track we took and it looked like we were the smallest group. So I guess we were just very lucky. Ernesto picked us from our bnb (we were indeed recommended by the owner of the bnb) with his SUV. Brought us to the highest town in mount Etna where we stopped for food and picked up a sandwich that was later our lunch at the highest point of the track. Very engaging... stunning views...great company. Highly recommended! Thank you, Ernesto!

This tour was not as described. Its description suggests it is not a large bus tour. In fact it was. I was asked to be at pick up point at 8. 30. Our guide did not arrive til 8.45. In that time a small group of us had seen another company picking up small groups with individual drivers and we expected the same. Instead we were loaded onto a big coach. This proceeded to travel around the city picking people up. I spent 2 hrs on the bus. The coach was full, in fact, two people had to stand. We eventually started hiking 3hrs after our pick up time. Although we did see most of what was described by the tour, due to the 50+ people in the group there was an incredible amount of stopping and a slow pace. On most of the stops nothing was said by the guide with many left wondering what was going on. The guide's explanation of Etna and the volcanic area was detailed and descriptive but passing a phone around to show pictures amongst a large group did not work.

The previous day I had asked the guide in a message, what time we would return to Catania. I was informed 4 o'clock. I believed I would have plenty of time in hand, so I booked a street food tour for 6 o'clock. As we had not left Etna at 4.20 I did not believe I would make it in time with all the drop offs the bus would have to do. I pressured the guide and a minibus for myself and others that had to be back in Catania was organised thankfully.

The description also mentions 4x4 vehicles gaining access to areas that you can't get to by coach, I saw none of these. Despite Etna itself being an incredibly breathtaking place the day was overall very frustrating.

Ernesto met us at our hotel and provided us with a solid day's experience viewing different aspects of Mount Etna and eventually hiking one of the craters. We were concerned about the possible language barrier since we only speak English, but Ernesto took care of us and made sure to repeat all of his interesting observations and details in perfect English for us to understand. I appreciated the opportunity to view and walk into a lava tube, as well as Ernesto's geologic knowledge that he shared with the group about Etna's history and the style of volcanism seen at Mt. Etna. When conditions got a bit snowy, we said goodbye to part of our tour group, but Ernesto continued on and took me and my companion to one of the summit craters, allowing us to hike around it for some time on our own. This was a great experience! Thank you, Ernesto.

Ernesto and Margarit guided us on a fantastic trek. They explained to us the natural formations, recent flows, multiple vents active today. Mid way thru the trip we stopped at fantastic outlook for our lunches.

Had a perfect time. Ernesto picked us from B&B from Catania. Both Marcus and Ernesto were very experienced and professional guides making sure every member of the tour were safe. Marcus told a lot historical information about Etna, also explained how volcanos work. Nor forgetting his sense of humour! Very tasteful and sensibly included in conversations! Had an amazing half day surrounded by miracle Etnas views...

We had a wonderful trip. Ernesto met us near our accomodation, we picked up some sandwiches and then drove to the trailhead. Ernesto provided hiking poles and gear so it was great since we usually dont use hiking poles to hike but you will feel much better on the volcano with them:). The pace was great, not so difficult but very very rewarding. The route we walked had amazing views onto Etna and the weather was perfect. We descended via a volcano sandy slope which is amazingly fun and comfortable as its super soft and you can basically slide/ski (dont know how yo describe it:)) down the hill! Wonderful trip and Ernesto is a lovely and perfect guide for exploring Etna. Would definitely recommend!

Absolutely fantastic experience. The views were amazing - stunning!
Our guide Ernesto Magri was very knowledgeable and informative. He was also fun - encouraging running in places!
The trekking was quite difficult in places so a good level of fitness is required. We went on a very hot day which some people may struggle with too.
Our group was 10 people from different nationalities. All very friendly.

Had a very professional guide in Ernesto. At first I tought the Land Rover wouldnt be a comfortable vehicle but afterwards I was impressed, Ernesto took us to see places impossible to reach by car. Had a fantastic journrey both varm sunshine and icy storms on the volcano. Luckely we booked Ernesto and no boring bustrip from the Hotel.
