Family Tour of Sicily - perfect vacation
Words cannot express how amazing this vacation was for my family. There were 16 of us (ages 6 - 76) and Paolo and Barbara made every minute perfect. There was something for everyone - kids and adults. We were not an easy crew either! My Father and Uncle wanted to see the small town they were born in (Melilli). The kids wanted pools and beaches, and others wanted museums and historic sights. Somehow it all worked. Paolo worked with me for over a year leading up to this vacation. He got on the phone with me twice and was very accommodating, changing things as we needed. He also gets an A+ for the hotels which were all beautiful and different – we had multiple experiences – beautiful downtown Palermo to sprawling hotels with pools and beautiful grounds to explore. The pasta making class was the overall favorite – we still make fresh pasta at home almost a year later! Paolo, thank you so much. I think about our week in Sicily almost every day and I very much appreciate the time and energy you spent on us. Kathy Mullins and Family

We loved our Sicily trip--and the way Handy Sicily made it happen!
We had a fantastic 14 days with overnight stays in six locations—all arranged by Handy Sicily and Paolo who were fantastic as a guide and companion, and in planning and customizing to meet our interests and needs. We wouldn’t have included the eye-popping Roman mosaics at the Villa Casale, which became a highlight of our trip, except for Paolo. We didn’t know if our physical limits and rest needs would keep us out of hill towns like Cefalu, Erice and Ragusa Ibla, and stunning Greek temples and theatres near Selinunte, Agrigento, Ortygia and Taormina but Paolo made it happen. Is a sudden rain shower interrupting a Syracuse walk? No problem—Paolo proposes an unscheduled drive to see a Caravaggio painting in a nearby Church and an ancient coin collection that knocked our socks off in a nearby Museum. He chose hotels for us also, which were excellent—and more affordable than some. In addition to all the local knowledge, Paolo went out of his way to help us meet our needs and preferences in food, sundries, and people-watching .If you’re interested in a customized tour of Sicily and a private driver, for either long or short trips, we feel Paolo and Handy Sicily are the top of the line and deserve 5 stars--at least!.

      Spectacular Sicily
Traveling with Paolo throughout Sicily was a spectacular adventure that exceeded all our expectations! Paolo planned the perfect itinerary based on his deep understanding of history and culture. His passion for Sicily and wealth of knowledge was evident in everything he planned, from our trips to archeological parks to exquisite hotel properties and dining experiences throughout our journey. Each day brought new experiences that opened our eyes to the diversity of culture and breaktaking landscapes of each region. Paolo is a first class guide and driver, extremely professional and a charming travel companion. We hope to have many more excursions throughout Sicily with him. We highly recommend Handy Sicily!

      A Great Walking Tour
We had a great tour. Yvonne, our guide was charming and very knowledgeable. She was able to guide us around the remarkable sights in Noto, with lots of information and background regarding the various architectural styles and the beautiful buildings we saw. The tour was well worth it, and we would recommend it to all visitors to Noto.

      Excellent Custom Tour Guide Service
What luck to have connected with Handy Sicily before our recent trip to Sicily. We utilized the agency on 4 occasions and Paolo and his team were outstanding. Paolo's communication before during and after our trip was 5 star all the way. Paolo not only set up excursions but made suggestions that allowed us to include things we would have missed ---and restaurant tips too! We were lucky enough to have Paolo as a driver & guide on two day tips ---Catania to Midica/Ragusa and Palermo to Erice/Trapani/Marsala, as well as a driver on another that he didn't feel we would benefit from the extra expense of a guide and he just directed us to the must-sees in that town [Taormina]. On our transfer from Palermo to Catania we had one of his drivers [safe, professional & prompt] and an independent tour guide at the Roman Villas ---she was extremely knowledgeable & it was such a lovely outing. We utilized Handy Sicily all over Sicily & as transfers from Palermo to Catania and back with detours on both trips. Cannot recommend enough ---prompt, courteous, professional, reasonably priced and very knowledgeable. Grazie mile Paolo, alla prossima!

      Vey satisfied customer
Sicily if mind-blowing. From the beauty of the countryside to the rich history of the cities, temples, churches and the layers of different cultures they represent, there is a never ending amount of mental stimulation. Beautiful wines, cocktails and food. Very friendly people. Two great winery tours included. Above all was the friendly, relaxed professionalism of our wonderful guide(s). Everything happened with a minimum of fuss. Excellent transport in air conditioned Mercedes Benz comfort. I recommend Handy Sicily. Highly!

      A Spectacular Sicily Experience
This was a SPECTACULAR tour that greatly exceeded my expectations. Our tour included stops in Palermo, Erice, the Valley of the Temples, Noto, Siracusa, Taormina, and Cefalu and more. We visited a diversity of sites including amazing churches, fishing villages, Greek, Norman and Roman ruins, castles and downtown walking tours. Many of the historic locations were UNESCO World Heritage sites and are unmatched in their history, quality and beauty. The Hotel accommodations were amazing and some we’re four star, estate like and very unique. The dinner accommodations were excellent. An outdoor, evening dinner over looking the Valley of the Temples was a highlight. Barbara, our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, flexible, patient and courteous. Our driver was very safe and kept a supply of water on hand. Given that the weather was hot and humid the off schedule stops at the beach for a swim was greatly appreciated by all. We were a group of ten on an air conditioned, comfortable mini bus for about twenty. There was plenty of room. There is only one way to go for a tour of Sicily and that’s with Handy Sicily. Without hesitation I would use Handy Sicily again.

Incredible Customized 14-Day Tour of Sicily with HandySicily and Paolo (Exceeded our every hope and expectation!)
I found Paolo Mortellaro and HandySicily on TripAdvisor, and for that I am truly grateful. I contacted Paolo in May 2021 and booked a 14-day private tour for two couples (my elderly parents and my husband and myself). Our HandySicily driving tour -- in a spotless and luxurious Mercedes van -- covered Palermo, Monreale, Cefalu, Mazara Del Vallo, Scala dei Turchi (Turkish Steps), Agrigento, Villa Romana del Casale (near Piazza Armerina), Noto, Buccheri, The Montalbano Tour (Punta Secca, Donnafugata, Ragusa Ibla, Scicli, Modica), Siracusa/Ortigia, Catania, and Taormina. I was impressed with Paolo's professionalism, attention to detail, and clear communication via email throughout the planning process. Although my father speaks Sicilian, the few times in the distant past when he had been to Sicily, he had only visited with our cousins in the Palermo area. It has been my father's (and my) life long desire to extensively tour Sicily to soak in the rich cultural history (including Greek, Roman, Arabic, Norman, Spanish, and more) there. Thus, in November 2021, my parents (aged 87 and 82), my husband, and I experienced a truly beautiful and awe inspiring once-in-a-lifetime trip tour of Sicily with HandySicily. I must say, that our tour exceeded all of our expectations. While Sicily is incomparably beautiful and rich in history and culture, touring it with my elderly parents would have been more challenging without the expertise, patience, logistical finesse, and commitment to safety of HandySicily’s founder Paolo. During our 14-days of touring with HandySicily, Paolo consistently went above and beyond to ensure that we could enjoy the history and beautiful sights while simultaneously modifying our daily itinerary as needed to accommodate my parents’ age-related endurance and mobility challenges. Add to that the fact that my mother and I have celiac disease and cannot eat gluten! Clearly, Paolo deserves a metal of honor for patiently finding us celiac-friendly restaurants — and even a gelato shop with gluten free cones near Taormina! Yum! I am so grateful to Paolo and highly recommend HandySicily to anyone who wishes to experience a personalized, in-depth tour of Sicily with an engaging, knowledgeable and properly licensed tour guide/professional driver. I hope that in the future my husband and I can return to see more of Sicily with HandySicily.

      Great walking history lesson
Great history lesson of the last 3000 years while walking through the historical city center. The walk was limited to the Main Street and the main buildings along it. A bit more walking and stories of daily life now and historically would have balanced the experience better.

Noto does not need a museum, it is a museum
Today we were guided through the centre of Noto by Emilia in more than 2 hours. Time passed very quickly. Here explanations about Noto and all you can see was very clear and she had answers for all our questions. Her English was perfect. We had a great morning.

FANTASTIC CUSTOMIZED TOUR WITH HANDY SICILY AND PAOLO MORTELLARO
I contacted Paolo Mortellaro in May to design a tour for six adults for late August 2021. I explained that we are experienced travelers that wanted to experience the beauty, history, culinary and vineyards of Sicily. Paolo went to work to design a private tour to meet our needs and budget. I am extremely detail oriented and Paolo met my challenge of providing precise details for cities to visit, boutique hotel accommodations, restaurant and dinner reservations, and getting of the tourist path. Paolo is extremely personable, knowledgeable, has quick wit and is extremely kind. He introduced us to hidden gems, and provided a historical narrative, that would remain unknown to us without his local knowledge. We started our tour in Catania where we were picked up at the airport in a very clean and spacious Mercedes travel van. From our pickup in Catania, we proceeded to the foothills of Mt. Etna where we stayed at a charming Sicilian winery to relax after our long flight from the USA. Over the next six days, we proceeded south to visit Mt. Etna, Taormina, Siracusa, Noto, the Roman villa of Piazza Armerina, Agrigento, and ended our tour in Palermo where we departed for Sardinia. I have traveled extensively worldwide and utilized the services of many excellent guides. I consider Handy Sicily to be among the finest and it is without hesitation that I offer my highest recommendation of Paolo and Handy Sicily. This is a professional company on every level that is able to offer the personalized details to make your visit to Sicily the trip of a lifetime.

      A Fabulous Day with Paolo
My husband and I spent today visiting Scicli, Ragusa and Modica with Paolo. Paolo's knowledge, his sense of humor, his extremely comfortable car (hugging seats and all) and his shared love of cannoli made it an an absolutely perfect day. He also took us to Gli Aromi herb farm, which we would have never have known about and we loved it, but that's another review. If you visit these places on your own, you will absolutely miss out on so many fascinating details and points of history that we enjoyed learning so much. If you are in Sicily, you really cannot find a better guide than Paolo.

      Lovely experience
Came here with my husband for our wedding anniversary and we had a lovely experience is Cassa de montabalno. Maria the housekeeper was amazing. Very helpful friendly and when we arrived we had to organise a Covid test. She organised it with the help of Ivana and we were very happy that they helped us. Maria was a source of information and arranged us to go on a day tour on a Montabalno Day Tour with Nunzio the taxi driver. We had a wonderful day. I would highly recommend this b&b to anyone who loves the tv show. Only negative was we missed the season and not many restaurants were open but we didn’t starve. We bought our food in the local shop and ate on the balcony in the evening. Thank you for having us!

Paolo gave a fabulous tour! His English was excellent, and he was full of information. He made the tour fun and enjoyable for our mixed group of travelers in our fifties and early twenties. We will look for Paolo if we are ever in Sicily again, and we will eagerly refer him to any of our traveling friends. We had a few logistical and timing issues to work around, and Paolo was fantastic to accommodate us. Thanks again to Paola for an unforgettable experience.

My husband and I were lucky enough to have a private tour with Emilia. We were very happy the tour wasn’t cancelled due to the small group size. Emelia’s expertise in the art and history of Ragusa Ibla was impressive. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend this tour!

This tour was perfect to get information on the town that one could never get just walking around without a guide. Although it could have been a small group tour it was just my husband and I so we had the guide all to ourselves. We saw all of the highlights of the beautiful town and she described everything in detail. We wrapped up on time (which was appreciated b/c it was HOT!!) Very reasonable price too!

Our guide was wonderful. She was extremely knowledgeable about all of the local Baroque sites and history, and was an excellent storyteller. She also stressed the importance of the immigration experience on both Ragusa and Sicily generally, and stressing how it helped create the rich, local culture. The city is beautiful, and we hit all the major spots we intended to on this tour. Our guide even got us into a Michelin-starred restaurant for lunch last minute! She certainly went above and beyond.
