About
A walking tour along the district of Castello to discover the history of Cagliari through the history of its most important monuments: the Cathedral of Saint Mary, St Pancras and the Elephant Tower and the Bastions.
After the walking tour, you will enjoy a visit to the archeological museum of Cagliari to find out the history of the Nuragic civilization, that lived on the island during the Bronze and Iron age.
Here you will get to know about their towers, the small statues of bronze that they used to made and admire the mysterious statues of the Giants of Mont'e Prama, the oldest statues of big size of the Mediterranean basin.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Tripfactor50 contributionsIt’s not just rocks! Hire a guide and take the virtual reality tour too ! Well worth it!I toured the sight with three friends, guided by Andrea, an excellent guide. He provided an historical timeline that put the features and location of these ruins into a digestible context. We were fortunate to be treated to the virtual reality experience with which one “sees” the ruins as they were ages ago; vibrant, colorful and thrilling!! Highly recommended way to fully appreciate this precious archeological treasure!Written October 27, 2024
- tinaNtravel0 contributionsVery enjoyable and informative but would have liked to have gone into the CathedralWe took the evening walking tour (because the earlier one was not available on the day we needed). We waited at the right spot, in front of the little café (Cagliari 1920), but didn’t see the guide. Finally, at the tour start time, I got a call on my phone asking if we were still coming, to which I replied we are already here. As I circled around while talking on my phone I saw a lady also talking on her phone and looking around and I realized that she is the guide. It would have been helpful to have some distinguishing shirt or umbrella, etc. I had been looking for a crowd of people, but it was only the guide and two other visitors. Luckily, she had called me. Note: Facing the café, the guide was waiting over to the far right and not in front of the café as the instructions indicated. The guide was great, very friendly and very informative. She made the tour very enjoyable. The main disappointment is that the agenda states that time will be available to look in Cattedrale Di Santa Cecilia (30 minutes). I was mostly looking forward to this visit. (Thankfully I had gone the day before, but it was just a quick run through since I had expected to be going back on this tour.) But unfortunately, when we reached the Cathedral, a Mass had started, and the guide said we were not allowed in. I would have thought the tour company would know when the Masses are and perhaps move us along a little faster (from Bastion Saint Remy) to get there in time. Either that, or the agenda should state that visiting inside the Cathedral is not possible during the evening tours. But that aside, the tour was still great, and I would recommend it. It is always nice to hear the history and background story of what you are looking at.Written October 19, 2024
- robyni5350 contributionsRelaxed and informative tourRafaela is an extremely accommodating and informative guide. She carefully explained the history of the Castello area and answered our many questions about other aspects of life in Sardinia. We were very lucky to have a private tour and we enjoyed her company and sense of humour. As a Greek, Latin and Italian scholar she is well equipped for this role. We wish we had met her before we booked our other trips.Written October 18, 2024

Her knowledge of history was impressive and the tour stopped often and gave us a great start to our Sardinian stay. She also recommended local shops and restaurants and was so enthusiastic. - L4892YWcolinc0 contributionsFascinating tour with an excellent guideAs it was not possible to visit Nora on that day, rather than cancel, Raffaela took us instead to Su Nuraxi. It's a fascinating place within easy reach of Cagliari and Raffaela is an excellent guide, full of enthusiasm for her subject. I look forward to doing the Nora tour on my next visit.Written June 22, 2024
- Christine_RB-240 contributionsGreat walking tourGreat walking tour with Marco who gave us lots of information whilst walking the interesting historical centre of Cagliari . Marco also took us to the best viewpoints to appreciate the wonderful views over Caligari. After a refreshment break at the end of the guided tour Marco, suggested we walk independently through the Villanova district, which we very much enjoyed. Highly recommended tour with Marco.Written June 7, 2024

- ElizabethG5390 contributionsRoman excavations at NoraWe walked here from our hotel but there are tours from various locations. It's well worth a visit, and I would recommend at least buying an audio guide, or joining a guided tour. There are signs around but as it's an active site with excavation still happening these signs move around or are temporarily missing. You need decent shoes.Written October 8, 2023
- peterbA7691XW0 contributionsSo much history in a beautiful location.Excellent small group tour with a very informative guide. The Nora site is large with lots to see in a beautiful location. The tour was relaxed and the knowledgable guide made it a wonderful experience.Written October 6, 2023

We had a wonderful Castello walking tour in Cagliari and our guide Raffaela was amazing, a true walking encyclopedia of knowledge. Topped off with a beautiful religious procession listening to traditional music instruments (sound resembling bagpipes) and an awesome sunset, we would absolutely recommend this trip to everyone visiting Cagliari. Thank you Raffaela for sharing your love for the city and its heritage.
