We arrived to Bari on a rainy Friday afternoon and participated in the gastro-cultural walk of Velo Services. It was a great experience. The beautiful Old town has its special South-Italian atmosphere with the narrow streets, motorbikes, flowers and the ladies that prepares their traditional pasta in their houses. Our tour guide was Jade, she has a great knowledge about Puglia and Bari. She told us lots of interesting facts and legends. We tasted the delicious tipical local food together. She did even the extra mile, my friend had birthday and she organized a nice little surprise for him.

Hi Dalmyy, what a pleasure to meet you here on TripAdvisor! We are so happy you really enjoyed our street food walking tour and we're pleased you had the opportunity to appreciate every single aspect of our wonderful old city. Velo Service mission is to show how tourism can be deeper and more impressive if it's linked with direct experiences and customized tours. That's what you tried, and what we consider the best way to show our Apulia. Our food, mixed with a pinch of history, achitecture and a spoon of our folklore, make up the perfect recipe to make Bari get in your heart and stay there for a long while. We really thank you for your amazing feedback and for expressly rewarding the great work of our guide Jade. We hope that many customers want to follow your advice. Hope to see you again soon, have a nice day!

Andrea guided three of us on a wonderful nearly three hour tour of the historic center of Bari, introducing us to both a variety of local foods and to bits of history and culture. Our first stop was “the best bakery in Bari”—the Panificio Fiore, now being run by the third generation. Here we sampled Barese focaccia, a simple but wonderful rendition with a perfectly crisped crust and a topping of tomato, oregano, and olive oil. Our next food sampling was at a salumeria, where we sampled mortadella and another local cured meat, mozzarella and caciocavallo cheeses, taralli crackers, and local (and tasty) jug wine. We then made our way to Assuncia’s house, on the street of pasta (specifically gnocchi) makers, for lessons in how to make gnocchi and to sample her product (perfectly cooked and served with an incredible sauce, and accompanied by more wine). Final food stop was Gentile Gelateria for some incredible gelati.
Along the way Andrea filled us in on the history of the presence of Saint Nicholas in Barese religious and secular life, and guided us into both the Catholic and the Orthodox sections of the church; he also told us about the castle, the layout of the old city, and how certain foods are prepared. He was knowledgeable and confident in his guiding, and made each of us feel at home. He translated as needed, especially the conversations between Assuncia and her mother Franca and the non-Italian speakers. A fun way to spend a few hours as we get to know Bari.

We had never been to Bari before and absolutely fell in love with it. Corrado, our tour guide, did an excellent job of showing us the sites. The highlight of the tour was the homemade pasta made by Carmella which we ate in her yard. Highly recommend this tour.

Started late. Combined a German walking tour with our food /walking tour for part of tour. Guide was sweet but not very informative. Very, very sparse food. Thimble size glass of wine. We have been on many food tours in various cities and this was by far the worst. The fact that it was $60 per person made it even worse. Would strongly discourage anyone from taking it. They should be embarrassed.

Dear customer, we are really surprised as well as disappointed for your feedback. Your harsh comment is only number 9 of 1.630 great reviews we got in 12 years experience. It really sounds like somebody who’s looking for a free experience asking a total refund once he gets the best. About the tour: Yes, we were just 4 minutes late because we gave all our customers maps, bottle of water, brief before starting. Thanks God you said « Guide was sweet » and we are totally able to guarantee she is also professional, licensed and expert. Maybe you were expecting a proper dinner but we offer different tastings, exactly as it is written in the tour description including two glasses of local wine Primitivo. Furthermore, we offered an extra tasting of fried food for free. So you had 5 tasting in 5 local spot!! Although the price is 40 euro per person and some people consider it little for what we offer: it’s just an opinion. While you discourage taking it, the STREET FOOD TOUR BARI is our best seller and we are very proud of what we do. Arrivederci.

I will start by saying I hate to write negative reviews, but after the response to a below commenter, I had to share that I had the exact same experience as the commenter. My husband and I signed up for a Bari street food tour, 2 people minimum required. We arrived and were not placed on a Bari street food tour, but on a joint tour of a historical Bari tour, a pasta making experience tour, and our food tour (which was not really a food tour at all). The tour was done in two languages and different parts of the tour dropped off at different times (the history people post the historical walking tour, the pasta making people after we made pasta, etc.). It was really disjointed and clear that the company accepted whoever made a booking and just made it work by combining tours. We only had 3 stops on our street food tour and left hungry. I have been on over 50 food tours across the world and this is the only one I have left hungry. It was also annoying because neither my husband nor I like to cook, so during the pasta making class, the two "cooking class" tourists had all the attention and we just sat back and watched. I also booked a morning tour online and the day before I received a message that the tour was starting in the late afternoon. Luckily, my phone worked in Italy. Proceed with caution if booking with this company.

Dear Fleming, yours it is a very severe judgment: our street food tour is considered by tourists among "the best activities to do in the city" even according to the same Tripadvisor. On that day, our expert guide hosted 7 people (including you two) because we always prefer to have small groups and dedicate the utmost care and attention to the customer. The management of the experience was in english and since two of the group were italian, in the notes it was preferred to comment in their mother language (which the other participants greatly appreciated). About the food, there are 4 tastings in 4 different points of the old town which as a whole represent a real substitute of lunch or dinner (no one has ever been dissatisfied with the quantity even if we are not at the restaurant). Anyway, our tour is aimed at discovering culture, people and flavors, but in the end we almost always become friends. We hope to see you again soon, have a nice day!

We had the perfect tour for Italy. A well guided walk through the old town of Bari, sampling food along the way. Our guide, Maria Luisa, was sweet, knowledgeable and had a comfortable, relaxed style. We first toured St. Nicolas church, then off we went thru the old town streets. Be careful and watch for bikes and motorcycles.

We watched experienced women make handmade pasta and ate some! Delizioso! Also had focaccia bread, as well as cheese meat trays with wine. Topped off with gelato, of course! Our group, having just met on this tour, got along really well, which also added to the afternoon.

The walking was not difficult but needed to be careful on the uneven cobbles and steps. Tour was just over 3 hrs in length.

Our guide, Vladdy, was punctual, polite, well prepared and really enjoyed his company.
It wasn't a good idea to start at 4pm because he told us that it was still siesta time - which actually lasted after 6pm!
He took us in a traditional barese family kitchen. The lady invited us to try and make the fresh orecchiette. Suddenly her son came out of nowhere, shouting foul language and making fun of his granny. We were afraid of his behavior. We felt unwelcome, and for tasting, we were only given a couple of spoonfuls of pasta with watery tomato paste, not presentable at all.
The salumiere plate was nicely presented, tasty and quite a portion. Focaccia was tasty but quite small

Dear Rita, thanks a lot for choosing our Street Food Walking Tour and for leaving us your precious review. The mission of Velo Service is to show how tourism can be deeper and more impressive if connected to direct experiences. This is what you have tried and what we consider the best way to show our Puglia. We apologize for the small inconvenience: our tipical folklore can be breathed thanks to many small moments of real life in the Bari Vecchia's houses, just like the homemade food, the history or the architecture. All these things represents the perfect recipe for letting Bari into your heart and staying there for a long time. Anyway, we really thank you for your feedback.and for expressly rewarding the great work of our guide Vladdy. We hope to see you again soon!

We loved this tour! Bari is a lovely city-touring the old town was so much fun! But the four food stops with great people and our lovely tour guide Eleonora made it just perfect! It was great to taste the focaccia and watch the Italian women make orecchiette-and then eat it! This was followed by more touring then charcuterie and gelato! Don’t miss this in Bari!

Took this tour as we had three days in Bari and wanted to experience a fun walking street food tour. We read on line and went to the office and talked to a lovely woman behind the desk about what it would include. After the woman mentioned several stops along the 3 hour tour including pasta, focaccia, gelato and on the website locally brewed beer was mentioned as well as wine we decided to give it a go for £35 each.
Our tour guide was lovely but it was her first time taking this tour. She gave us a great history tour for 2 hours but at times got lost and food hadn’t even been mentioned to us, not even a drink was offered at this stage. Eventually in pasta street we were invited into a lovely woman’s house for a small bowl of fresh pasta with a cup of her local wine. We felt obliged to buy her products. Then we went into a shop selling cheeses, salamis and anti pasta products. We were served very simple and small amounts of olives, tiny pieces of cheese, one slice of salami and prosciutto each with dried bread and a small glass of red wine. Several times the tour guide mentioned again about purchasing items from the shop. That was our street food experience!! We were with a lovely couple from Florida who were told not to eat much during the day as they would be fed well during the tour. They were both very disappointed as well. We feel that the company is not ready for a food tour yet.
We went back to the office the following morning and explained why we felt ripped off. They did offer us an hour rickshaw ride with focaccia and gelato included but we didn’t feel they were really listening to our reasons why we were not happy. We had hoped for a 50% refund but no money was offered.
I would not recommend this tour though the staff were all very nice.

Dear Sir, we always appreciate a review even when it's not so good and precise like yours. To be honest it looked like you were obstinately looking for a refound the day after when you were twice back in the office but this kind of game doesn't really work with us. Our street food tour involved an expert and passionate guide that mix typical local taste with history and culture of our beautiful city, that's why we got plenty of fantastic feedback also by people of your tour. 'Tasting' does not mean to have a full meal! Moreover, when you were "not satisfied" we offered you other options that's why, she wanted to make sure everything was alright. We are really sorry if you felt obliged to buy stuff in the food shops, but we never force our customers. For sure, the 'orecchiette's ladies live trying to sell fresh pasta and this is their live show. If you felt hurt or obliged, you could have asked for help to your tour guide. At last, you gave us just one star, and we must say that our 'very nice stuff' doesn't match with this evaluation. To sum up, we will treasure your experience, we are sure we can do better. So, we hope you will visit us again, see you soon!
