About
Venice, this wonderful city rising out of the water, was one of the wonders in Europe, and during the 15th and 16th century one the richest in the Mediterranean Sea with a population of approx. 170.00 thousand inhabitants.
More than 11.000 were courtesans...In a cosmopolitan and active city like Venice, at the time of the Serenissima the courtesan phenomenon found fertile ground. The Republic was not only the beating heart of a thriving commercial activity, but also a center of passage for merchants , for pilgrims, people on the move, foreigners of all sorts .Many were those who went to the lagoon due to the high number of precious relics. As many as those that arrived in the wake of the oriental routes for the sale of luxury goods. The phenomenon of prostitution flourished in this purely male environment. Like most activities it was not only controlled by the city government but also used as a tool to maintain public order
Let’s explore the Venetian courtesan culture

- Lindab76490600Outstanding Tour with LindaOur family of five recently had the privilege of spending an unforgettable day with Linda as our tour guide in the amazing city of Venice. We had many wonderful tour guides on our 2-week vacation in Europe, and Linda was by far our favorite! Linda is the kindest, most considerate person, which combined with her knowledge and passion for Venice, makes her the best tour guide you could ever have. Throughout the day, she gave us her expert commentary on the history, art, and architecture of Venice and you could feel her passion for this beautiful city. She also has a wealth of knowledge about things to do and see in Venice aside from the usual tourist attractions. Linda had the whole day perfectly planned for us and took care of every detail. She asked us what we wanted to see and made sure we had time for everything, but she also wanted to make sure that it was a fun and relaxing day for us. And it was!! There were so many special highlights of the day, but one of our favorites was a surprise visit to a beautiful historic palazzo. We felt like royalty having drinks and croissants in a private room and then being whisked away on our private boat down the Grand Canal. Linda arranged private water taxis that were perfectly timed to take us to the islands of Murano and Burano, and also arranged for us to have a delicious lunch in Burano and a sweet gelato treat afterwards. One thing I noticed throughout the day is how much the people that she dealt with loved and respected her (taxi drivers, shop owners, restaurant owner, etc.) This is a reflection of her warm personality and professionalism. Linda went above and beyond to help us have the best day in Venice and we are so grateful to her for helping us all to have wonderful memories of Venice that we will always cherish. We highly recommend Linda to be your tour guide in Venice if you want to feel like a special friend is taking care that you have the best experience in the city that she loves.
- michaelbR2196OM00Nadia is Number 1We contacted Nadia through our family friends here in the USA. Nadia came highly recommended. We were not disappointed. Nadia not only showed us amazing parts of Venice but the historical facts she gave us were incredible. The boat tour was amazing. I highly recommend the walking tour coupled with the boat tour. It is incredible. Most of the common site anyone with Google maps can find. The tour Naida gives is off the beaten path with so many interesting sites and places to eat. You will never forget it. She is a gracious, kind and informative host of Venezia!
- helenbV3395CZ00FabulousWe had a fabulous tour with Linda - my husband and 3 teenage children throughly enjoyed Linda’s passion and enthusiasm for her beautiful city. She took us to an exclusive palazzo, back streets, boat tours and went well above our expectations. She recommended concerts, places for us to eat and even booked our water taxi to the airport. Thank you so much for making out trip so special. You really were a friend in Venice!
- andrewy3600A Perfect Day in VeniceThe Tour was absolutely amazing. Linda (our guide) was so professional and kind. She was extremely knowledgable and clearly cared about what our personal needs were. I brought my wife, 10 year old, and 13 year old. Linda could move quickly when we needed and slow down for special "off the beaten path" activities. We were able to experience all of Venice with no lines, hassles, or issues. Linda took us to all the spots we wanted to see and some secret gems that surprised us with. I have already sent her another client. This is a must do whether you in Venice for a day or a week. Linda cared so much that even though we only spent a day with her she was happy to help the whole time we were there with getting reservations at the best restaurants with the best views and ambiances in town. She is clearly a well connected local who cares deeply about her clients. Hard to find these days. FIVE STARS PLUS!
- chissie201500Definitely worth itGreat private tour! Particularly special was the private boat tour portion, which happened just as the sun was setting and was a very magical way to see this incredible city. Venice has many hidden gems and it’s well worth taking the time to seek them out with someone who knows the city so well! Highly recommend
- Mister-james-10200Fantastic Private Tour! Unique Perspective of Venice! If you like learning about the history of cities, architecture, and many more fun facts about the city, this is the best tour you can take. Nadia and her assistant tour guide, Davide, did an excellent job showing me around the city. There is a deep, rich history about Venice… this tour will provide you with a lot of this history. You will go off the beaten path, into the areas that are not busy. Doing this enriched my connection with the city. In some areas, it did get a bit touristy; however, the path you go has a specific reason. You see a glimpse of the tourist areas and then you go back into the hidden areas of the city… it was great and I would highly recommend a tour with A Friend in Venice. Not only will you get a one-of-a-kind perspective of the city, but you sure will leave with a friend in Venice.
- toddhoughton00You need to see Venice through Nadia’s eyes!!!From the moment we met Nadia, she made us feel comfortable and was a joy to be around. Before the tour even began, Nadia took the time to show us maps of Venice and went over the important history of the city, to help us gain an overview of where we would be walking. She asked us questions about what we had already seen and what we hoped to see, working with us to customize our experience and meet our needs. She was full of valuable information and gave us stellar recommendations about places to visit and where to eat. We did a walking tour for 2 hours and a boat tour for 1 hour. I highly recommend seeing the city this way, from land and water. She took us to parts of the city that, generally, tourists don’t see. We were able to take pictures and videos that captured the beauty of Venice. Nadia is simply the best!!!
- paul w00Jewish tourGuide was lovely. Cared passionately about Venice. Not masses on Jewish qtr but enough. We really enjoyed the experience
- davidfZ8908YT00Nadia was amazing, great tourNadia met us at the airport, helped us get to our lodging, brought us to a great lunch place and THEN we did an amazing tour- walking around Venice "off the beaten path". Great stories and information- a lovely day...and we made a new friend.
- maryrb93500Off the beaten track/ canal. We had a great afternoon with Nadia exploring Venice and learning all about its history. Lots of weaving in and out of streets off the beaten track. There is something special about hearing about a place from someone with lived experience and has plenty of stories and personal knowledge. Would highly recommend a tour.
- S3688OCamyd00Amazing, personalized in-depth tour of VeniceNadia, the guide, is absolutely fabulous. She started our tour with the history of Venice, which was very helpful. She walked us around the back streets of the city and taught us things I’m sure other tourists never learn. The boat ride was terrific as well. Would highly recommend this for a small group- we had just our family of 5 and it was perfect.
- paulmphx00Worth every $$ - a spectacular day!Nadia - has a true love for Venice, the people, the places, the buildings. Truly door to door service from our hotel, with fantastic slow tours of a glass factory (your own private tour, incredible!), slow walking Burano and ending up at a perfect lunch spot, where she magically disappears and lets you enjoy the time with your loved ones. Then time on Torcello, which I dont think we ever would have gone, but was one of our favorite experiences in Venice. Yes the price is higher than other tours...but think of it as door to door service, with people waiting for you at each stop to share their skills/loves/labor. Worth every $$. Look forward to our next visit, and for Nadia to show us some other corners of Venice, and encourage us to go "get lost".
- alessiopE8257IM00Thanks NadiaNadia Danesin is the best in everything 🥰 she is intelligent woman, she can show to everyone the secrets of Venezia
- heatherk49300Quick Paced Off the Beaten Track TourWe did a 2 day tour with Nadia. 1 day was the 5 hour off the beaten track tour, including a private water taxi for an hour. And the 2nd day we did the Murano/Burano tours by private water taxi. I most appreciated how she pays for the water taxi’s and cappuccino stops for you, so you aren’t constantly digging money out - then you just pay her back at the end of the tour, her tour price will include all of the transportation prices! So basically she handles all the details to make the day go smoothly. She seems to know a lot of people in town - and stops to talk to them, or introduce you to them….or maybe that is just the Italian way!! The tour moves pretty quickly, so if you are a picture taker, like me, always have your camera ready to go, because you’ll be lagging behind trying to get certain pictures…and in Burano, there will be a ton you want to take!! Thanks again for a quick 2 day introduction to Venice and the surrounding area. I also liked how the tours are done between 10-4 at the latest…that way if you want to go back to anywhere specific, you’ll have time after the tour ends. The tour prices may seem high, but don’t forget that private water taxi’s and gondola’s are very expensive!! You will see a lot of picture worthy back alley’s and not have to worry about getting lost!! Oh, if you go to Burano, the restaurant she booked for our lunch was phenomenal!!! One of our top 2 meals on our 2 week vacation to Northern Italy!!
- Roam2386561723800Wonderful tour guide with such an amazing personality and very likable!Nadia greeted us with open arms and gave us such a wonderful experience in Venice! First class tour!!

Grazie Nadia.
