First time in Venice - gotta do it - but don't expect all the romance you might think you will enjoy
Just seeing Venice from the water is worth the experience but these are not the gondola rides of movie fame. No singing, barely any conversation from the gondoliers, though ours did have a sense of humor. The boats are also not the gorgeous wooden ones you will expect but more modern boats, often decked out with some pretty gaudy seating. Many other things to do in Venice but, hey, ya gotta say you did this at least once in your life, right?

Dear Christine H, Thank you very much for your review. We just wanted to point out that, as it's clearly stated on our ride description, this is not a guided tour, nor it includes a serenade. We still try to make the ride as more private and romantic as we can, and we're a bit surprised to hear about the modern boats (maybe it was an isolated case?), since we're actually using the ancient wooden gondolas, as you can see from the pictures posted here by other customers. In any case, we're sorry to hear that your experience wasn't 100% great and we hope to have you as our guest again in the future!

When in Venice ...
... this is obviously a must ... it was pleasant enough.
However, I have a complaint regarding the lack of accurate instructions online at time of booking. We waited at the designated place for the gondola with our printed voucher but found that we in fact were suppose to go to a ticket office in a different part of Venice and convert our voucher into tickets!!! We lost our time slot because of this and had to wait three hours for the next slot. There were others in the same situation.

Hi WaiT76, We are afraid that you've reviewed the wrong company since we, as Faberest, don't provide our customers with any kind of ticket. They only need to present thier booking voucher at the gondola stand (printed or mobile version) and they can simply board the gondola! Overrated
Went on a gondola ride. Waited for an hour and it was just so so. Nothing excited besides the fact I can say I’ve done it. It’s not something I’ll ever need to do again.

Such an amazing moment in Venice
The Gondola Ride was incredible!! it was magical! I will never forget it. Thank you! The Gondolier was Andrea! He was such a great gondolier. He explained some of the landmarks that we passed by, and sang some Italian songs for us. My mom was super happy with this ride.

Matteo was awesome, sexy and knowledgeable. Singing voice like honey for the ears - if ears liked honey. Very good tour of the canels, and booking in advance means you don’t have to queue - fun times.

Conned by Aviator/Tripadvisor before I got there and ride spoiled by Gondoliers.

When you go on Tripadvisor you look for hints and tips to make your trip safe and enjoyable and most importantly to make savings against being locally fleeced. In this case the daylight robbery took place on this website. Beat the Lines was the advert. It cost me £120 to book this Gondola trip for me and my wife. Approximately E140. I arrived in my Venice hotel to be told don,t pay anymore than E80. This was in fact the high end asking price for a couple confirmed when I actually arrived at the Gondola service with others just arriving and paying locally. Whilst on the Gondola I wanted a private and romantic experiences with my wife for her birthday. The Gondolier paddled the boat alongside his friend talking to him the whole time and we enjoyed this experience with another family with young children. A totally shambolic experience that spoiled what was a birthday surprise.

Our Favorite Gondolier

We took a gondolier ride two times because despite our best efforts to follow recommendations we ended up with a nutty and not very good gondolier on our first attempt. He spoke no English, gave basically no tour, pointed left and right with no commentary, smoked, talked on his phone at end, gave a shortened ride, and had us exiting by crossing from one gondola to the next and one of us fell and was badly bruised. And yes we did ask for someone who spoke English and would give a tour and were assured he would. So ... we do not recommend the gondola stop right by the Accademia bridge near the fancy restaurant on the canal. We did get it all right on our second ride with Nicolo at the Accademia vaporetto stop but a few minutes walk to his gondola spot in San Vio on a smaller canal. His English is good for the tour he gives and he provides lots of information. He was nice and careful and even posed for selfies and took photos for us at the end. Learn from our mistakes and find Nicolo. We’ve included location photos and a map. 🙂

Good trip
If you have never been to Venice a gondola ride is a must 80 euros for the trip for up to 6 people. But the best way to Venice is a private water taxi tour for 40 mins you see much more price negotiable.

30 Min Gondola Ride - Basic and Only a Ride!
I agree with Rob on 4.26 review. You check in and go with +/-50 people and are walked to gondola ride.

A young blond female lead us over to the departure area " says here it is" and left.

There is no organization of how/ when you get on the ride. People break in front of you ( who are not with your group)and it took 47 minutes to get to boarding point.

I thought 12 noon would be about the time that you got to ride-- Nope!

This is apparently a no- commentary. Which was not indicated. Gondolier speaks to- you except for safety issues. My granddaughters rode in the boat and I was explaining what we were seeing.

Finally, the blond lady at the check in area came over and saw how backed up it was.

She, was about 4 feet from me and made some comment about " old folks letting others in and did not understand".

I never let any one in front of me.. so why that comment to any of us??Or was it folks in front of us a few feet.

I explained to her that I do alot reviews on trip advisor and would be doing one on this excursion. I was really unhappy for I had another tour booked that we just barely made.

My advise to others, if you want to know about the gondolas, book a trip with a commentary.

If using this provider, make sure you next tour is 2 hours + from your appointment time.
