My family and I had the great pleasure of being guided by Tomosa on his classic Venetian styled boat. Honestly, it wasn’t the boat, the possible sunset, or anything else that made the trip it was Tomosa. Hands down an exceptionally smart, humorous, and well spoken skipper. My husband and I enjoyed his stories and wit so much that we almost had to be reminded to take pictures. He was organized by explaining to us what we were doing, where we were going and when we would do certain things. I found him to be considerate of our elderly group member to ensure she made it into the boat safely. We just had such a great time with him and learning some of Venice’s history. My husband and I love naval history and seeing Venice from this perspective was so much fun. We drank Prosecco, the whole bottle. I would highly recommend take a cruise with him, sunset, no sunset… it’s still an absolute blast to talk to him and hear all the wonderful historical stories.

This tour is a must-do! Our tour of the lagoon surrounding Venice was outstanding. Tomasso was our guide, and he has lived in Venice all of his life, so he was extremely knowledgeable of Venetian life in additional to knowing the city’s rich history. Tomasso is extremely personable and his love for his hometown made the time with him even more enjoyable. We were able to see all sides of Venice from the water during the tour, sipping on Prosecco throughout the trip. As we walked through Venice the next day, we kept thinking of questions that we wished we had asked Tomasso, and at the end of the day, we ran into him on the water shuttle, and he happily answered a few more questions. I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed this tour - it was the highlight of our entire time in Venice. Thank you, Tomasso!

We had so much fun on this tour! It was all adults (I think we just got lucky) and we shared bottles of Proseco with about 10-12 other guests while our very experienced and knowledgable guide took us in and around Venice waterways, including many of the islands that you don't always see on the bigger tours. And, our guide knew a lot of history of local sites that you probably don't get with the more commercial tours. I think everybody had a great time and also enjoyed the timing of this tour - late afternoon that turned into early evening. Very nice excursion all around!

Amazing boat tour of Venetian lagoon. Captain was very knowledgeable and accommodating. Great way to glimpse the many other islands in the lagoon, plus great views of St. Mark’s and the Doge’s Palace at sunset. If touring in the summer, recommend bringing water and sun screen - Prosecco provided is very, very good :)

We have been with Thomasso on his small boat and enjoyed a private tour, this time in the larger boat with other people was ok but obviously its the luck of the draw for your fellow passengers, ours were pretty poor unfortunately. If you were in a larger group of friends or family I’m sure it would be more enjoyable. Thomasso is very friendly and knowledgeable so it’s a good tour around the outside of the city and outlaying islands. You may be lucky and get a better group than we did.

Hello Peter,
thank you for your review but, as you can understand, if you choose a shared tour I cannot guarantee that you will like the fellow passengers. This is not my fault. I hope you will have better luck next time.
Kind regards

Definitely include this sunset cruise on the ‘must do’ list while in Venice! Our guide, Tomas, was personable and engaging. The trip lasted a full two hours. Even though the sunset was covered by clouds, the temperature was warm enough that we were all comfortable with light jackets and scarves. 5 stars for the tour and 5 stars for Tomas!

The meeting point for this was by the ospadale vaporetto pontoon.
After a little confusion and a quick phone call to us from our brilliant captain and tour guide, Tomaz, we met up and were thrilled to find that it was only the two of us on this trip - happy , happy days 👏
Tomaz was an amazing guide… the whole trip lasted just under 2 hours and took us down the smaller canals which we’d only previous passed by on a another trip.
He was knowledgeable, funny and generous in sharing his insights and views of Venice.
It was a lovely, informative, informal trip and the Prosecco was a special touch.
We cannot recommend this trip highly enough.. it’s such a unique way to see Venice and gain extra knowledge about its wonderful history.
This is a must do and worth every penny… don’t hesitate to book this and if you are lucky enough to have Tomaz as your guide you are in for a treat - he’s an absolute gentleman.

Perfect cruise around Venice. Tomaso was a great host and guide, the Prosecco flowed along with the perfect amount of information/historical facts.
9 of us in total on the boat and the chat with the other passengers was also very pleasant. Very relaxed way to spend a few hours after a day walking around Venice.

Excellent boat ride! If you come to Venice, this tour is a must. The tour guide was knowledgeable and funny. He made sure to communicate with me the day of the boat ride to ensure I had all the information needed in order to get there on time. The Prosecco was light and crisp and he provided us with as much as we wanted. We also met some other friendly couples on the ride as well.

After researching this boat trip on TA we were not disappointed. Not only was the skipper Tomars (apologies for spelling!) one of the best, we were also blessed, as two Brits, with an array of friends from the good ole US of A. From Florida, Texas, New York and a delightful trio of French/Americans from San Francisco.
When they say ‘it’s good to meet new people’ you are not far wrong.
For 90 minutes we were taken to different islands throughout the Venetian lagoon and educated on the history.
Sipping Prosecco as the sun set on a traditional Venetian boat, we eventually ended up where we started and even had dinner with the San Fran trio who were wonderful company.
A real must do trip.
Loved it.

My husband and I are coming to Venice February 2020 around the carnival time to celebrate our 10 year anniversary, do these sort of trips happen at this time of year? I'm not sure what the weather etc is like then.

I would like to book this for July 9th. I would only do the time that would include the sunset!! What time would you recommend me booking for?
you,
Christine
I mentioned this to my wife when I noticed our sunset cruise was starting at 5p. We knew the sun would not be setting by 7p, but wanted to take the cruise anyway and we’re so glad we did. It was a beautiful cruise where we got to see other islands and our guide was excellent in telling the history of Venice in a fun and entertaining way. Well worth it! I don’t recall having a choice in the time for our cruise.
Hi, I am thinking of bringing my mother on this trip tomorrow. We have a 6month old baby with us. Can we still come?
Thanks, Sara

I would not recommend taking a small baby on the boat ride. The beautiful island-hopping tour is a 2-3 hour slow ride around the major islands surrounding Venice on a small open boat (with no shade) that carries about 10-12 people comfortably. The boat has only two rows of bench seats that face each other, with no way to stand up or walk around. It's a very scenic tour and even romantic for couples. If your baby is extra quiet and doesn't need it's diaper changed in that amount of time, it shouldn't ruin the ambiance, but please consider the other passengers who have paid a lot of money for their undisturbed experience.

Hi, we are coming from Mestre, what is the best way to get to the meeting point for this boat trip at Ospedale?
Anna
Los Angeles, CA11 contributions
You’ll be able to find a few taxis that drop you off at Ospedale when you get out of the train station and head to the main water taxi front. It’ll be very straight forward!
Will you be operating around the 27-29 September 2018? If so can you tell me how to book. The calendar doesn't go past August. Thanks

Hi, we would like to book this tour for 6 pm departure. Just have some questions in mind. Each boat has how many passengers? What is the route followed? Is it through the grand canal and include Lido and other island of Venice? Is there any guided commentary regarding the surrounding from the boatmen? How does it compare with private gandola ride? Is it recommended for special occasion?
ahopefultraveller
Fintry, UK917 contributions
The passengers will be just your party. The route will depend on the weather and wind direction. No grand canal. Wonderful views as the sun starts to go down. We went to the northern lagoon, so Burano, Mazzorbo and saw many of the lesser known islands. The boatman talks to you the whole time about Venetian history and about the Venetian people. I would say yes, it’s perfect for a special occasion - if you request it, prosecco can be provided. Highlight for me was listening to nightingales singing (in April/May). It’s not a big boat, and there’s no deck cover or toilet facilities. Chugging through Burano was amazing. Our boatman, Giamba, was utterly charming and so enthusiastic about his city and its people. If you have questions you can email them they are very good and helpful. It s not at all like a gondola ride (not through canals of central Venice) but in my view it has its own authenticity. Would thoroughly recommend.
