- 499marianm0 contributionsSkipping the Line is MandatoryA visit to Venice is not complete without seeing St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace. Skipping the line is mandatory if you want to make the most of your time. Our tour (with Rita?) began at the Doge's Palace. This is not my first tour here. Rita had some great insights and pointed out very interesting things to us that most may have missed. The basilica was packed with people, as usual. She was able to maneuver our group effectively and made it possible for us to get some great photos. My only negative is that because I have been on the after-hours tour, I saw the difference of dealing with a large crowd and having these places to yourself. If you want to save your money, this tour was excellent. If you want to spend more, the evening tour is epic.Written November 8, 2024

Meeting point is at the Front of Doge’s Palace - the front facing the lagoon - and on the benches to the right of the entrance. They give you a radio and headphones so you can hear the commentary and that works well too. Nothing not to like, and skipping any queue is always a good thing 😎Written October 31, 2024

- 0 contributionsExcellent Tour Guide!Elena captured everyone’s interest during our recent boat tour from Venice to Marano and Burano. Her passion and knowledge of the glass and lace making were impressive. She shared the history of the various nearby islands and highlighted the beautiful architectural elements along the way. Her warm personality and good sense of humor made for an entertaining tour. Our captain, Maximilliano, did a fabulous job navigating through the busy waterways. We all felt very safe with him at the helm. I highly recommend taking this tour and hope you are lucky enough to get Elena as your tour guide!Written October 25, 2024
- philipeK1496WA0 contributionsCould be better but tour is worth doing just to see the palace and cathedral.Firstly , don’t get me wrong this is a great tour in terms of the spectacular architecture, frescos and artwork. What makes or breaks these tours is the guide. The guide was very knowledgeable but her engagement was not good. I often found myself switching off from the monotone narrative and reading the display boards. She tended to rush through certain areas. Her English was good when she spoke to you directly but after a while I had difficulty in understanding her over the ear piece.Written October 23, 2024

The tour was very well orgnanised and easy to find. Our guide, Serena, was lovely and gave a really interesting talk about Venice to and from the Islands.
The stop at the glass factory was an hour too long and that time would have been much better spent on the Burano island - which was beautiful.
The glass factory was beautiful to look round, but the items whilst amazing works of art, were far too pricey for anyone taking a public tour out there - hundreds and thousands of euros and you had to pay substantial shipping costs. If you could afford to buy anything there you would be travelling there by private speedboat and not on an organised tour.

We did this tour today and it was excellent. We had Antonella as our guide and she is jam packed with info to share on the islands in the lagoon and the two islands specifically
Not push to buy on either visit either which was nice! New Murano Gallery was the locate on Murano and Burano was Merletti d’Arte Martin the lace place
We opted to stay in Burano after the tour finished and got the vaporetto back meaning we could have a nice long lunch and shop some more!.
The glass blowing was really good, I’ve seen this done in several places in Murano but this probably the best thus far i.e. not just the requisite prancing horse…. We saw a beautiful large glass made with dimples on the side, then a really lovely two tone horse.
After shopping in their shop I went back while we waited to meet up and watched the second master glass blower make exquisite earrings
The shop, well you could spend the earth and they will ship to you or get a small gift to remind you of the visit, all treated most equally. Lovely staff happy to share knowledge and answer questions
The lace making was a much shorter demo but by a lady who is one of only 40 hand sewn lace makers in Burano! Seven ladies do separate stitching to create the most expensive pieces and they’re truly amazing. It was lovely to watch. The store has everything from the 7 ladies pieces down to diddy lavender pockets so really every pocketbook
Our boatman was great, nice safe and very pleasant
Would thoroughly recommend the tour
Easy meeting place and if you decide to stay longer in Burano only $7.50 per person to get back
Really great day and loads to see and enjoy in Burano

Enjoyed the tour. Our guide was very informative about the surrounding islands and their history. The glass factory was interesting and the glass exhibition was truly unique. I would recommend that you not get hung up in the showroom, but go out into town to look around and buy pieces at other stores with more reasonable prices. We also enjoyed Burano. The lace demonstration was also informative, and I appreciated its simplicity, allowing us to view the work of the artist, but also time to tour the town and enjoy the bakeries, gelato, and a glass of wine.

This trip had good and bad points. I had wanted to see these islands and Serena was a good guide who told us lots and made us laugh too.
The down-side was Murano - there were far too many of us packed into the demonstration (I counted 35) so like many others, I simply couldn't see. It didn't last long and we were taken into the extensive showrooms and told we had nearly an hour there - we all have different tastes and I found the Murano glass gaudy, rather tasteless and extremely expensive (there is a much nicer place near where I live in Bath, UK) which left me wondering what an earth to do. Only when I escaped the pushy sales people and went into the garden (which was cold of course) did Serena say I could visit the town. She showed me the way but it was a case of 7 minutes there, 7 minutes back and about 10 minutes to look around. The town is pretty (more glass shops!!) and I didn't get the chance to see the church which a friend has told me is lovely. For this I do not rate the trip as it was just a tourist rip off.
On to Burano and a whole different story. It is beautiful with only a very brief visit to a shop where they make lace then with clear instructions on getting around we had plenty of time to enjoy, take photographs and shop/eat etc. When we got back to our boat, we were blessed with the most beautiful sunset which kept us entertained through most of the journey back as the sky and lagoon changed through orange and pink. This totally retrieved the trip.
The last thing, Serena made a big point of asking us to give her 5 stars on Trip Advisor as she gets a bonus this way. I'm afraid that while Serena was great, I really didn't appreciate the Murano part of the trip and thus I am truthfully giving out 3 stars.

Dear AttitudeAdjuster,
Thank you very much for your review regarding your tour to Murano&Burano.
We are really delighted to hear your kind words for your guide Serena, she will surely be happy to hear about your feedback!
I am sorry that the demonstration on the Murano Island was too crowded, unfortunately this was not under our control, since it is the Museum that manage the number of people inside the venue. It is understandable that you could not live this experience as expected since you could not enjoy the glass-making show.
However, we are happy that you could enjoy the second part of the tour on Burano, that was surely less crowded, and you could appreciate the time there with all the different activities. I hope you have some pictures of the Sunset and if you could share with us on our facebook page it would be amazing!
Thank you again for your feedback, at City Wonders we really appreciate it in order to improve our tours and to renovate our experiences.
Hoping to see you soon in our of our tours.
Enjoy the new year!
Kindest Regards,
Francesco, City Wonder Team

Visit Murano to see the master glass makers at work! Riding in a private boat taxi was a true highlight as our guide Manuella showed us maps of the area and gave us excellent information on the island history dating back many centuries. We were absolutely charmed with the colorful homes of Burano and the friendly service at a local restaurant we stopped at to have lunch. Excellent tour! Great way to extend your Venetian experience. I would suggest taking the time to explore Murano over spending too much time inside the Murano Glass shop unless you have $20,000 Euro to spend on a glorious chandelier! Cross over the bridge and check our the tiny shops instead while there is time!

We chose this tour over other tours (despite it being more expensive) because it was advertised as 5 hours and small group of no more than 20 people. When we arrived at the meeting point, we found that the company had actually booked in more than 20 people, but lucky some didn't show so it wasn't too crowded. And the tour guide said it was 4 1\2 hours. I tried to explain that we had booked a 5 hour tour and there were other, cheaper 4 hr 30 min tours available, and had we known we could have picked a cheaper tour, but she didn't understand. This was very frustrating- we picked the tour over others because we wanted more time to explore each island.
We got to murano and watched the glass master at work- which was wonderful!. We then looked around the gallery and made a small purchase in the gift shop, but by the time we had done this, we only had 15 mins until our boat left and the town was 10 min walk away, so there was no time to see any of murano. If you were wondering why I was whinging about the tour being 30 mins shorter than advertised, hopefully you now understand that that 30 mins would have made a huge differnce in murano!!
Another short boat ride to burano to see the lace makers. Sadly, it was very underwhelming. There was lady who explained the process of lace making (which took about a minute to explain), and beside her was a lady sat in a chair with a needle and thread, but we were not shown what she was doing. It just looked like regular sewing. It was in a crowded shop with people cutting through our group constantly, making it harder to hear and see, then after the 60 second "demonstration" we were asked to look around the gallery to Try to make us buy some lace. Having learned from the last island, we decided to skip the gallery and walk around the gorgeous island, comprising of a plethora of brightly coloured houses. This really was a beautiful place! We bought some fresh made bussaro biscuits which were delicious, and walked around with some homemade gelato from one of the many stores. Skipping the lace gallery meant we were able to see a lot of the island, compared to others in the group who were complaining that this tour was very rushed and disappointing.
Basically, what you think you are purchasing with this tour is not what you actually receive.

Serena made our tour enjoyable and relaxed from start to finish, despite initially (literally) running 30-40 minutes late. We couldn't get over how knowledgeable she was. Any question we had, she was able to provide an answer. Serena went above and beyond, even walking us over to a restaurant she recommended for lunch after the tour. The boat itself was comfortable even for me, who is prone to motion sickness.
Our time at each location was cut a little short but we didn't notice because no one ever made us feel rushed. The Murano tour was amazing - from the glass blowing demonstration to the shop. Nick, the owner, couldn't have been friendlier or more accommodating. In Burano, the lace shop had beautiful items at all different price points.
If you have the chance to do this tour, do it!

Can't recommend this tour highly enough. With Alessandra as a captivating and knowledgeable guide, felt like having a local relative spending the day with us to share the secrets. We did the half day tour to Murano and Burano, and this included 3 fabulous trips on luxurious boat taxis, winding through canals, unrivaled views of the lagoon with fun zipping across to the islands. The glass demonstration on Burano was amazing in a very small group really seeing the masters working. We were not pressured at all in the show rooms, it genuinely was a great opportunity to see the glass work without hassle. While lace may not interest you, the island of Murano is simply beautiful, and a quiet place for a mid-day drink before the fabulous boat ride back. And all far better value than most other things we've done in Venice.

Our guide Christina B was at the designated meeting place, even though we arrived early and as there were just the 2 of us we left straight away.
She gave us a very informative talk as we went across to Murano, covering aspects of the history of Venice, is unique building methods as well as explaining aspects of the glass manufacturing industry on Murano.
The glass factory and Showroom we visited was very interesting with a display of glass blowing and some amazing displays of their glassware which can be purchased. Sylvia answered all our questions and helped us without pressurising us to buy.
The second stage to Burano was very different but just as enjoyable. The coloured houses of the islanders and the amazing skills of the lace makers were well worth seeing. Christina B showed us several of the more colourful and quirky houses, answered our questions on the history of the island and also got a local recommendation for a quick pizza lunch.
This tour is a great and relaxing way to get out of Venice for a few hours and see some of the other islands which have something different to offer. We learnt a lot, enjoyed travelling by speedboat and had an excellent guide for the 5 hours it lasted. Highly recommended.

We did the morning tour commencing at 10:30 and after a short trip across the lagoon we landed in Murano (first stop). Glass blowing demonstration was short but fascinating. We opted to remain at tue gallery for a look at the beautiful glass works and to purchase some small pieces to bring home. Be aware the glass here can be very expensive, but you understand why when you see the process used to create their unique pieces. Some of the group wandered around Murano - there are more glass shops near the town square.
Another short boat ride this time to thee colourful and picturesque island of Burano. Our lovely guide Joy provided an interesting commentary along the way describing both lagoon life and pointing out other islands along the journey.
Burano is perfection on an island, recommend getting off the beaten track of the main ‘street’ and exploring the many narrow laneways with their rich colourful homes. The church tower has a significant lean, making it a great focus for photos. Again our guide Joy provided details of where to eat, the best gelato and how to find the most colourful house in Burano.
Back on the boat for a trip back to Venice, with further commentary of the area, lagoon and wider Venice area.
Absolutely perfect way to spend 5 hours (felt much shorter than that). Thanks to Joy for being such an amazing hostess.
Highly recommend this tour.
Another short boat ride this time to thee colourful and picturesque island of Burano. Our lovely guide Joy provided an interesting commentary along the way describing both lagoon life and pointing out other islands along the journey.

We are set to disembark at 11:00 from our MSC Cruise. Will that allow for enough time to get to the meeting point for a 2:30 tour?

The boat is pretty big with inside and outside seating. I don’t think it should be an issue.

From Baglioni Hotel to tour meeting point at statue/monument Vittorio Emanuele II (just near Hotel Paganelli too) isn't far and only an easy walk of approx 7-8min.
