A must-stop for any casual or dedicated art lover! The name Leonardo DaVinci alone should be enough to draw visitors to the Pinacoteca di Ambrosiana in Central Milan, and indeed it is, but there is so much more to love about the gallery’s collection. Set in a beautiful palazzo sometimes the building itself is the work of art. You’ll need at least 2 hours to see the collection, more so if you like to linger over a Brueghel, Botticelli, or the large scale “cartoon” by Raphael. Of course the piece de resistance is DaVinci’s “Codex Atlanticus” (of which several pages are on display) and his painting “The Musician.” And despite the masterpieces contained within the collection, the gallery was quite empty and so we enjoyed a leisurely and unencumbered view of the art.

Fantastic, quiet museum near the center of Milan. Highlights were Caravaggio’s Basket of Fruit, Napoleon’s gloves at Waterloo, Raphael’s cartoon for The School of Athens, and - of course - da Vinci’s Codex Atlanticus. The audio guide in English is necessary because the plaques are very sparse and in Italian.

We loved this museum. The daVinci exhibit was spectacular. The layout of the salons and exhibits made for a truly easy to enjoy experience. The outdoor courtyard was truly stunning. The temporary exhibit was also a fabulous experience, using multiple modalities to provide insight into the Raphael cartoon. This was one of our favorite museums in Italy.

Only a five minute stroll from the Duomo Piazza brings you to this hidden jewel .
In addition to some of the greatesr paintings of European culture, there are many other artefacts, a garden , statues as well as a beautiful library.
The d Vinci Cidex is now partially on display behind glass cioverings and represent a dozen or so of the maestro,s 40 year’s of different drawings selected from over 1400 originally bound pages and forming three vast bound volumes , each to heavy to lift.Tge display changes. There is a digital display with subjects and sub headings and one could spend the entire day just viewing the extensive collection

This was a great museum. Quiet and not crowded at all, surprising given what's on display. DaVinci musician painting, Raphael cartoon for school of Athens, pages from codex Atlantic's (They rotate what's on display) and much more. Not as famous as some other Milan attractions but well worth a visit

Huge collection of art, mostly Italian renaissance masters, but late Medeival art and more contemporary works, Roman sculpture, Flemish painting. Overall, it was a bit overwhelming, more than I expected or could thoroughly explore in one day. Had no problem getting tickets and it wasn’t crowded, despite being there at the height of the tourist season. Highly recommended.

Almost missed this exhibit because i was focused on attending some of the bigger ticket items. This museum has a lot to it including the Da Vinci codex exhibit. There are a lot of artwork and artifacts housed here. There are 3 levels of exhibits i think, plenty of rooms to make your way through. The Da Vinci exhibit is last before a small bookshop.
Toilets are only at the entrance. Take the lift downstairs.

Wonderful experience.
A small place in the heart of downtown Milan. History all around. Paintings of famous artists and original Leonardo drawings. What is not to like?
Impressive old library, taken out directly from a Harry Potter movie :)

We saw an amazing selection of beautiful artworks including the surviving cartoon of Raphael’s massive fresco at the Vatican, the only such full size drawing still in existence; wonderful paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, together with pages from his Codex Atlanticus; paintings by so many great artists such as Brueghel the Elder, Tintoretto, and many of the greatest painters From the 14th to 15th centuries. What a stunning collection!
