- sushicatno90 contributionsWonderful way to experience GenoaWhat a wonderful way to explore Genoa. We really enjoyed walking around in our small group listening to Alessandro tell us lots of interesting things about the city and the places we strolled past. The little food stops along the way were traditional and the food was delicious. I doubt we would have found all these places on our own and having a local lead the way was great. It was relaxed and slow paced giving us all time to take it all in and enjoy it. Thank you Alessandro!Written October 4, 2024
- O4307UTbernardf0 contributionsDiscovering GenoaOur guide was very knowledgeable. He made us discover Genoa’s history and geography. We had not realized how much we would walk uphill. Despite that we enjoyed our tour very much.Written September 16, 2024
- youngr2450 contributionsA wonderful tourOur recent tour was fantastic, a perfect blend of cultural immersion, culinary delight, and historical exploration. From start to finish, the experience was both enriching and enjoyable. What made the tour truly special, though, was Alessandro, our guide. His ability to weave history into the experience made learning not just enjoyable, but deeply meaningful.Written September 14, 2024
- chrisgT3036FQ0 contributionsLovely City to visitLovely city with great food and sites. The Maritime & Migration Museums are amazing, the Metro lifts very interesting to see the city, harbours and sea with great views. Do not book the Free Walking Tour as they did not show up. 🙁 Very hot in August- May or September would be cooler.Written August 21, 2024
- F5710QAemmas0 contributionsAn Unforgettable Day in Genoa! For anyone considering a visit to Genoa, I cannot recommend Alessandro's tour highly enough. It's a unique and enriching way to explore the city, combining the power of music with the beauty of Genoa's historic sites. I visited the beautiful city of Genoa for a two-week law fellowship where I had the incredible opportunity to join Alessandro's tour, and it turned out to be the highlight of my stay. Alessandro's ability to tell the city's stories through his songs was truly impressive, and it made the tour an unforgettable experience. Each stop on the tour was paired with Alessandro's beautiful music, which not only entertained but also educated us about Genoa's rich history and vibrant culture. His songs added a unique dimension to the tour, transforming ordinary sightseeing into a journey through time. The sites we visited were breathtaking, and Alessandro's engaging storytelling made each one come alive with historical significance. I was so enamored with the city and the tour that after my fellowship ended, I met my mom in London and convinced her to come back to Genoa with me where together we experienced Alessandro's tour. Spending the day on the tour with my mom was incredibly special, and we both loved how Alessandro's music and stories enriched our understanding appreciation of the city. It was, without a doubt, one of our favorite days in Europe. This tour will leave you with unforgettable memories and a deeper connection to this amazing city!Written July 17, 2024
- Passport489553836500 contributionsGreat tour!We had such a fun time with Alessandro on the tour of Genoa! There are so many interesting tidbits about the city and its history. Alessandro kept the tour at a manageable pace (especially with the heat) and was very kind. His stories put to music were especially fun as well! I’d recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn about Genoa from a local.Written July 15, 2024
- tanellek0 contributionsUnique and Wonderful!Alessandro was Absolutely Amazing!! This tour did not disappoint! I was so excited to experience a tour of the city that was off the beaten path! There is so much hidden treasure in all the little nooks and crannies that you can not, and will not find on your own. It was so awesome to hear the history of this brilliantly historical town. I really felt like I traveled back in time, as Alessandro so colorfully painted the picture of what took place back in the day...and his beautiful, and personally written, songs was the delicious cherry on top! I Loved this tour! I highly, highly recommend it to everyone! Ciao!Written June 19, 2024
- yasmineyahya0 contributionsWonderful, engaging tourHad a lovely time with Alessandro as he took us to really hidden spots around the Genoa historic centre and sang us cute little songs about historical and legendary characters. I'd recommend this for anyone who is keen to see parts of Genoa that tourists don't go to, to visit very charming little squares and see slices of normal life in this beautiful medieval city.Written June 14, 2024
- 634kathiem0 contributionsExploring Old GenoaIt’s like going behind the scenes in Genoa because you are not in the “tourist” area. You go up and down old neighborhoods in the hills - so you see buildings with histories and learn how the neighborhoods changed over time and why. The funicular replaces walking the steepest hills. In May the flowers were blooming everywhere and the weather was perfect for sitting and listening to the stories sung by our guide.Written May 4, 2024
- C7125JPcarmens0 contributionsDiscover the true Genova!.This tour was great, we had the opportunity to discover the hearth of Genova in their little streets and tasted the locals' confections, the best focaccia that we had in Italy, the tucco pasta was perfection and there is a little local that has different frittatas, which the Chipola being the crowned one !!! 110% recommend.Written February 15, 2024
- albertvR9987UU0 contributionsBest part of our Genova visit. The 3 hours walking experience with the guide, Allessandro, explaining and singing about the history and remarkable things happened and happening in Genua was a highlight when visiting this ancient seashore city. It was a great experience not only for the atmosphere of the places we visited but also because of the selection of the dishes to taste authentic Genoa Cuisine. In addition to the food, Alessandro is a local guide with an amazing knowledge of the city and its history. It was the perfect evening for us. Alessandro is also totally fluent in Spanish. - wacher10 contributionsWonderful tourWe had a great evening of walking round Genoa and trying the food and wine. Our guide was terrific, taking us for freshly baked focaccia, wine tastings, traditional local pasta and ice cream. Would highly recommend this tour.Written October 18, 2023
- tnisplayer0 contributionsWonderful Evening Walking Dinner Tour of Genoa!Excellent Tour! We were looking for a food tour that would lead us to some notable/local food establishments, provide some Genoa history, and be reasonable in cost. This tour was ideal. Alessandro was a very good host and took us to many longtime establishments that are frequented by locals but ones that we would not have stumbled upon on our own. I am certain that our group of four enjoyed some of the cities best focaccia(really exceptional), pasta, and gelato(100 percent chocolate!) on this tour. We also stopped for wine and snacks at Genoa’s 100 year old wine shop along the way and tasted some savory baked goods at a unique bakery. We appreciated that Alessandro was able to give this tour in English and Spanish since we accidentally signed up for the Spanish tour but only understand English. Being a local resident and a graduate of the University of Genoa he was able to provide us with interesting historical and cultural facts about the city. We appreciated that it was a smaller tour our evening(6 people) as we were able to enjoy our Spanish speaking tour mates and guide. We all agreed that this was an exceptional tour and would highly recommend it if you are looking for tour with quality local food items and some Genoa history.Written October 12, 2023

Alessandro not only provided a fabulous cooking experience in his beautiful garden but became 'our man in Genova'! He provided a very personal service helping to ensure we could make the best of our time in the city, including linking us to another guide for the hike we wanted to do. For the cooking class Alessandro provided the freshest local ingredients and patiently taught us traditional pasta and pesto techniques. He was very warm and easy to talk to, making us feel immediately comfortable. All helped along with some great local wines and his passion for food and Genova. Book this experience- you won't regret it!

Such a unique experience and a very traditional feel due to the environment we cooked in!
Disclaimer: There are many many steps you walk up to the location (cooks Italian home) and I recommend wearing closed toed shoes as well as a light jacket or pants (at least in the cooler months)
Everything was provided and very hands on, the cook is a great teacher and very welcoming.
I would recommend any one to give it a try for their first time.

We participated in an exceptional cooking class with Alessandro, a friendly and kind host. He guided us through the preparation of pesto pasta, passionately sharing the history and origin of each dish. The setting was idyllic, in a private garden overlooking the harbour, which made the experience even more special. After a welcome with a typical aperitif, we spent more than three hours learning and cooking in a relaxed atmosphere. Alessandro then retired to let us enjoy our dish in peace. An unforgettable experience that I highly recommend!

A lovely day cooking in a fruit tree filled garden with my teen and four others. You do have to climb many steps to get to the class which may be an issue for some. You go through the business owners apartment to get to the garden. It’s all hands on which is great. There are two lovely turtles in the garden who eat past scraps!
Activities include rolling the dough, cutting the pasta( square shaped!) , hand stamping it and hand making the pesto. This is the way an Italian grandmother of yore would’ve done it and still today by those who love and have time to create handmade pasta.
Teacher was very nice and friendly. Limoncello drink was lovely.
This did take four hours. So assume 12 pm to close to 4 pm to do the class.

No, the turtles don't have to eat any pasta scraps, it's harmful for them

What a great experience! In a lovely outdoor garden high above the city, Emanuela guided us through an Italian experience making our own pasta and pesto. It was a fun lunch experience with 2 other couples. Highly recommended!

Alessandro met us in downtown Genoa and lead our group and two other ladies back to his house/garden where the class would take place. There are quite a bit of stairs, so if you are sensitive to that, be aware.
We made two types of pasta and pesto, all from scratch in the comfort of his garden that had citrus trees, grape Vines, a pear tree, and an apple tree. Oh, and two tortoises roam around it as well. Don't be fooled, this is still in the heart of the city, and it is three floors up, but it was a peaceful setting.
Everything turned out very good, and the gluten free pasta was actually my favorite of the two. The pesto was delicious, and I am looking forward to recreating this meal at home. We also got to drink some bottles of wine sourced from a local winery, of course.
Alessandro was a patient teacher and host, stepping in to help when needed.
I would recommend taking this class, as you can learn how to make some pasta that isn't very typical, and how to make a well balanced pesto that will have anyone you serve asking for the recipe.
Incidentally, we also booked a walking tour when booking the cooking class, and Alessandro also leads that!

Alessandro was a wonderful host and cooking instructor. It was such a special day to learn family recipes in the home of a Genoese native. We were part of a group of eight diverse people who came together from different parts of the world to make pasta and pesto and laugh.

We absolutely loved this experience 💚 Alessandro welcomed us into his home and gorgeous rustic garden oasis in the centre of Genoa and shared his first class knowledge of pesto and pasta making. He expertly showed us how to make pesto and two different types of pasta from scratch, and then served it to us with wine in his garden. We met the most wonderful group of fellow guests, who were a delight to dine with. Highly recommended.

Lovely and special experience at a lovely garden in the centre of Genua, host is very nice and helpful and knows a lot of the food and the region. The food comes together with fitting wine from the region. Cooking your own Italian food in a typical Italian garden with a lovely sea view in the distance with a host who's so good makes it the best experience!
