About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- carrier2110 contributionsGreat experience, delicious foodReally great way to spend some of our day in Genoa. Our guide, Veronica, provided lots of information before, during and after the class. She was a great translator for the chef to help guide us through the recipes. The pesto, testaroli, focaccia al formaggio and canestrelli were delicious. The class is a great mix of hands on and learning from watching the chef. The recipes were an unexpected but delicious deviation from traditional pasta and focaccia. Highly recommend!Written September 1, 2024
- jeansM8212OP0 contributionsFun cooking classWe loved the class and the food. The only criticism is that because the exact amounts of each ingredient was not provided, it is not possible to prepare the dishes at home. We've tried to reach out to our guide but have not had a response.Written August 30, 2024
- FarAway671889000590 contributionsFantastic cooking experienceWhat a fabulous experience!! Loved getting to know Veronica and Bernardo. Such a special time learning authentic Italian cuisine.Written August 8, 2024
- haileyd3080 contributionsWould Recommend!!This was definitely the highlight of our trip! Veronica was amazing with her explanations of the city and the history of the area. Full of recommendations and advice, we truly appreciated her upbeat attitude and wealth of knowledge. Roberto was also an amazing instructor and his personality made us feel like we were at home speaking to a long time friend while learning some of the secrets of a few special dishes they have served for years. We not only made some great memories at this class, but left with a few recipes and the knowledge of how to re create these dishes in our own kitchens. Plenty of laughs, great tasting food, and some new skills learned.. we couldn't recommend this class more!Written August 8, 2024
- larisad7190 contributionsUnforgettable experience. Highly recommend! It was a unique experience. I highly recommend this course if you visit Genova. Not only did we learn how to make Pesto, but I can say that it was the best pesto I've ever eaten. Many thanks to the Chef and Veronica who are such special people and made this experience unforgettable!Written August 4, 2024
- FranzFamily30 contributionsAuthentic Genovese CookingAmazing experience! The chef and guide were knowledgeable and personable. We learned how to make 4 authentic Genovese recipes. Delicious, memorable and lots of laughs. Highly recommended!Written July 31, 2024
- G9617RKcraigc0 contributionsOnce in a Lifetime Experience!Veronica was an incredible host and made you feel at home the entire time. I can’t express how much we enjoyed her. We had a family of 9 and they were so accommodating. From the ages of 13 to 82 and we all had the time of our lives. The owner was outstanding and taught us how to make hand-made pesto. The best pesto in the world along with hand-made focaccia. Such an amazing experience. We recommend to everyone and to all ages.Written July 25, 2024
- Hannah_S-Y0 contributionsAmazing experience, Would recommendThis cookery course was great fun. The super-friendly Veronica met us and acted as host. She also supported Bernardo, the chef / restaurant owner who carried out the course in his restaurant. Bernardo had a real sense of enthusiasm and depth of knowledge to share and being hands-on it was much more engaging, especially for my daughter (13). It was also airconditioned which was nice!Written July 12, 2024
- Steve K0 contributionsYou will NEVER look at pesto the same way again! Our cooking class experience was fantastic. Both our guide (Veronica) and chef (whose name escapes me, somewhat embarrassingly...) were tremendously welcoming and friendly. Besides making Genoese cookies and hand tossing focaccia dough, the highlight for me was making pesto from scratch, using the freshest Genova basil you can imagine. (I am now ruined for what I used to call "pesto" in stores and restaurants back home...) Veronica went over and above in providing information about the cooking, and even had some recommendations about things to do after the class.Written June 20, 2024
- jelyjo0 contributionsFantastic cooking class! We have taken many cooking classes on our trip around Italy and, like the rest, this one did not disappoint! We learned to make pesto with a mortar and pestle (which requires some major elbow grease!), testaroli (a unique local pasta), canestrelli, and, best of all, focaccia with cheese (focaccia di Recco). We’d tried to make focaccia di Recco at home and it’s tricky - Bernardo, the chef whose restaurant hosted us for the class (Locanda Tortuga), allowed us each to make our own with his help. He was a great teacher, as was Marco, the champion canestrelli-maker who stepped in to help while Bernardo took a phone call. This hands-on experience was one of the most valuable of our trip. We’d also like to shout out Veronica, who met us at the meeting point - she gave us a ton of background on the dishes we were about to try while Bernardo was setting everything up. She was super helpful and also took pictures of us while we were cooking, then sent them (along with recipes) after the class. Bernardo, also, is quite a character and was very fun! Highly recommend this experience - if you’re not sure whether you want to include Genoa on your trip to Italy, this class is worth the stop!Written June 12, 2024

- 258maxinel0 contributionsFantastic cooking experienceDomenico and Beatrice were the perfect hosts, we had so much fun making the most delicious pesto and focaccia. - jessicaldwell0 contributionsA very enjoyable class with attentive and accommodating expertsMy friends bought me a solo ticket for this course as a graduation gift, so I had to join some others I didn’t know to participate. At the time, I was recovering from an injury that made it hard for me to stand for long periods. This made me a little worried about going alone, but I didn’t want to miss out! When our local expert Veronica learned this, she was incredibly accommodating and kind. She ensured I had places to rest and was even taking pictures for me so I could show my friends later. The course was a lot of fun with great atmosphere. I felt like I learned a lot. Plus the food was delicious! I am looking forward to making it again someday for my friends to try. I was really glad I decided to take a chance on joining in the end!Written April 11, 2024
- 555jewel0 contributionsThank you for sharing this Historical City with us 🇨🇦We enjoyed a wonderful, historical afternoon with Marina. Professional, highly educated on the history of the area and delightful young lady. We visited the corners and alleys of the area we would not have otherwise found….my husband and I enjoyed Gelato for the first time. We truly enjoyed our cultural food tour and found a great appreciation for Genoa. Thank you!Written January 19, 2024

Marina was our guide and provided an excellent experience. The food selection was plentiful along the tour, and we learned a ton about the history of the city. I was surprised that there were not many food tours advertised in Genoa; however, I am glad we found this one and would recommend it to anyone visiting Genoa.

Wow! This is a great way to know the city and it's food. We had a terrific time with Marina. We only had one day in Genua and wanted to get to know the city a little bit better ánd we love food, so this tour was THE tour to book! We were flabbergasted, the city of Genua is rough, but so beautiful. We loved every aspect of it. And Marina took us to the best places to have local food. We tasted a lot and it was all GOOD :-). Marina is a very nice host, she really loves her city and she can tell you all about the local food habits and why it is the way it is. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! (And if you meet Marina, please say hello from us, Willeke and Lydia)

Unfortunately, I found the price-performance ratio to be quite inappropriate. We have specially not booked the street food tour, but were only in 2 restaurants - otherwise at street food booths.
We have paid 164€ for two person and got food worth 50€!
Apart from that, it was a very nice tour with a friendly guide and you could learn a lot of historical about the city.

Good morning,
Thank you for the review and for participating in our tour. We are happy to hear that you had a good time with our local expert Valeria.
Regarding the price-experience ratio, we are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied. However, please consider several aspects: first, the price you pay is not the price we pocket (consider that the percentages retained by the platform through which you booked vary between 25 and 30 percent). Second, to the price of the food you have to add the cost of the local expert (3.5 hours of work). From what is left over you still have to subtract taxes as per Italian law. So you can understand that the price of the experience cannot just be a sum of the cost of food.
Having said that, we hope to have you back as a client to make you reconsider :)

We did this tour on the first night of our trip. I would definitely recommend doing this as early as possible as you get to explore the city and taste the local food. Valeria was our guide and she was fantastic! She is from the local area and is very knowledgable about local history and food. We tried 5 different local dishes. She also gave recommendations of other places to try for food during our trip.

I had a great tour today trough the city of Genova in a very private group.
My guide Valeria did a perfect job, including giving us special notes from her life in Genova as a local.
Also she had lots of interesting informations about history, architecture and development of the city, plus the very special hidden spots every 30 min with delecious local food which you would just pass as a normal tourist.
I enjoyed it a lot and for me its the best way to explore a city with a guide. 👌🏾

We took this your with our guide, Marina. She was a fabulous tour guide and explained the history behind each of dishes and drinks we had on our tour. She was a wealth of local and regional information, both from a historical perspective, and from her family's and her own history. I love tours like this because you get to meet and spend time with a local person and experience the pride in their city and culture. I would recommend Marina as a guide to anyone!

A lovely morning spent strolling the streets of the old Town. Marina was a great guide, sharing much of the city's history as well as introducing us to some of the local cuisine (little places we would have passed by without realizing what we were missing). Highly recommend, especially as the pace was easy and the food delicious. We revisited a few of them the next day, in fact. The food was mostly simple local cuisine, in decent portions that left us quite full and in no need of supper that evening! A memorable and lovely way to experience Genoa.

Really wonderful food tour. Delia our guide was very helpful and insightful and gave us an excellent tour of some local Genovese restaurants along with additional recommendations. Would recommend to anyone looking to get excellent local recommendations. A lot of food is given on the tour so Id recommend skipping breakfast beforehand!

Marina did a fantastic job showing us around! You could tell she enjoyed the places we were visiting and it felt like a friend showing you around their city. All the food stops were delicious with a wide variety of foods at unique locales. Everything from street foods to beautiful restaurants. In between, she shared some local sites and history to make it feel like a true tour of all of Genoa and not just jumping directly from restaurant to restaurant (which was appreciated because servings were big and we needed time to digest). Would absolutely recommend as an introduction to the city and I'd gladly visit any of our stops again.

My wife and I really enjoyed this tour. Valentia was a great guide and a joy to be with. We liked tasting and learning about the local food scene and the tour met and exceeded our expectations. Perhaps my favorite stop was when we visited and sampled three different pastas and sauces at restaurant Il Tondin. We highly recommend the tour and encourage others to give it a try!

Yes, we walked from the cruise ship to the ferry dock. Took the ferry to the other side (don’t remember the name of the stop) from there it’s a 10min walk to the shop.

Hello... We are a group of 6 arriving in March and are wondering what is the difference between the street food and traditional Genoa tour? Please let us know so we can decide if we want to book! The reviews left by others really don't indicate which tour they were on, so we don't really know what the difference in price provides.
Written September 7, 2019
We did the traditional tour because we had two little kids and my mother-in-law with us so we wanted to make sure we would be able to sit down on occasion. That being said, some things we are were street food, and some were sit down mess. We had a combination of focaccia, fritti misti, trofie al pesto, ravioli, etc. Like the other posters say, you can’t go wrong here. Good luck!

I'm trying to book myself into the Do Eat Better Experience, for the 24/07/19 in Genoa, but it is not letting. The message I get is: We're sorry, this activity requires between 2 and 10 adults. Are there no spaces or has no one booked? Could you advise me please. Thanks

Written June 22, 2019
I did the tour recently and I would say you probably could make vegetarian choices at most the places we went! The guides are very friendly and helpful so I’m sure you’d be accommodated.

Can you tell me the difference between the street food and the traditional food tour - i.e. what difference is it for the additional cost? many thanks
