About
No need to go to Rome to discover the customs, culture and habits of the ancient Romans. Accompany me on a leisurely stroll through Aquileia to explore the most beautiful corners of this former royal seat of the Roman emperors - and a Unesco world heritage site.
River harbor, forum, residential buildings, necropolis and the grave road.
We visit the Duomo of Aquileia, its priceless and very well preserved floor mosaics. I will tell you about the development from an imperial residence to a patriarchal seat. After the lunch break, I would be happy to show you around the National Archaeological Museum of Aquileia if you wish.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- adriangarratt0 contributionsBeautiful place to visitA nice little gem just a short ride from Trieste. The house is full of items to gaze upon all around you. The park is also a nice little stroll.Written October 20, 2024
- marksF4540YU0 contributionsAn Unexpected TreasureLubos was a life saver agreeing to book a private tour at the last minute. He was a delightful and charming companion who customized our tour on the spot based on our interests and preferences. He took excellent care of us and made what might have been a forfeited day into a magical one. He went above and beyond in every way to make our day in Trieste memorable. We will definitely call on him again should we find ourselves returning to the city.Written October 18, 2024
- RostG0 contributionsBeautiful place to visitThe weather was pretty bad, raining at times, nonetheless we found the castle and the gardens were just amazingly beautiful. The story behind this was very interesting as wellWritten September 14, 2024
- kirsty1bourne0 contributionsBest ever guided tour!I wish there were 10 stars to leave because this was one of the best guided tours we have ever had. Lubos was charming and funny and informative. He truly brought Trieste to life for us. It was brilliant and cheap at the price!!Written September 7, 2024
- Meander364781067380 contributionsBeautiful garden with a great view.Very beautiful palace with a great garden. Reminds me a little of the palace garden in Schönbrunn. Extremely beautiful view of the sea. Good seating with a great view.Written August 29, 2024
- adamdZ4615OU0 contributionsIf in doubt, do this tour.Really excellent tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and took the trouble to find out what we were interested in. We covered a lot of historical, literary, culinary and liturgical ground, received the right amount of information and stopped whenever required. In fact Lubos went far beyond the call of duty. Unconditionally recommended.Written August 8, 2024
- GoPlaces6223530 contributionsFirst In Class TourLubos exceeded our expectations. He was such a personable and well-prepared guide and even gave us a packet of info to take with us at the end. He shared not only the interesting historical sites but current local activities including a storefront where they displayed the traditional sandwich bread and meat. He even bought us a Trieste coffee at a traditional place. We booked in advance, which I would recommend. He planned with us where to meet that was most convenient for us, which helped us get off to a great start.Written July 8, 2024
- soxfanGR0 contributionsTop notchLubos was terrific! Very knowledgeable, very affable and a great host. We learned a lot of Trieste and what a wonderful city it is. I highly recommend Lubos’ tour and suggest it’s one of the. Better walking tours we have had.Written July 7, 2024
- osricks12345670 contributionsReally lovely experienceA bit of a walk from the road but we'll worth it. What a stunning castle & grounds, hanging off the cliff side. What a way they must have lived. Definitely worth a half day.Written March 26, 2024
- Kmiklic0 contributionsMiramare castleVery pleasant time spent in the castle as well as in the park around the castle. The ticket is 12 Euros. The accommodation is by the sea and the view is fantastic from every room. 10 minutes from the city centerWritten March 13, 2024
- fcslady0 contributionsA Tour Way Above the Bar of Excellent!Lubo was beyond fantastic with this tour. He offered many helpful tips before we had the tour through his great correspondence. We had a snag in our flight so we couldn’t take the tour with the rest of our group. He gave them an excellent tour and handed them a gift to give to me since I had booked the tour and was missing it! His thoughtfulness and going way beyond what would be expected is exceptional. Book this tour! You will not be disappointed!!Written November 11, 2023
- Nomad8006860 contributionsTrieste with PassionLubos is clearly in love with Trieste sharing history photos and stories which brought the city alive. - Dalia G0 contributionsGreat, historical and architectural tour!Lubos is an exceptional tour guide! he was extremely knowledgeable about the complex history of Trieste. - M1084MRellieg0 contributionsThe crown jewel of the city of TriesteYou can not go to Trieste and not visit this beautiful castle! It should be a requirement of any visit. I was born in Trieste and ensure I do at least one visit of the castle and it’s garden each time I go back. In recent years a new director of the park has revitalised the place and helped to return it to it’s former glory. Definitely visit and go inside of you have never done so. It’s magical and the story of its creation and history is both tragic and beautifulWritten September 13, 2023
- D4906MDaliciae0 contributionsHighly Recommend! This tour guide was FANTASTIC! He was very cool and very informative. The tour was the perfect amount of time and engaging throughout. I would highly recommend this tour! We only had a short amount of time in Trieste so this was a great way to cover a lot of things in one day!Written September 5, 2023

Basilica with three naves, the mosaic between the two side naves is magnificent, the mosaic floor is the largest of all the mosaics of the Christian West. The archaeological area is also worth a visit.

Jahrhundert. Einfach toll.
Vielen Dank für das schöne Erlebnis
