About
A fantastic experience in the heart of the Food Valley to discover two world-class products: Parmigiano Reggiano and Parma Ham.
After your short train ride, from Bologna or Modena, we'll meet in Parma and head to a dairy producer to see live the different stages of Parmigiano Reggiano production. At the end, enjoy a small tasting of two different ages accompanied by some local wine.
Afterwards, we will head to the hills and visit a ham factory to learn about the production and characteristics of Parma Ham. At the end of the visit, you will taste some prosciutto with a glass of wine before returning to the Parma train station.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Richard M0 contributionsPoor customer serviceThe tour itself was fine but the customer service was unsatisfactory. I mistakenly double booked the Bologna walking tour for two different dates. I attended the first tour which was fine. When I later realized I was still booked for a second tour I immediately cancelled it online. Sadly, however, I was already apparently within the 24 hour “no cancellation” window. Viator said they contacted the operator who refused to help and charged me for a tour which I actually cancelled. The tour operator and Viator got double paid for a tour I attended once. I doubt they actually turned a willing customer away because of my mistaken booking. Both Viator and the tour operator need to be more flexible and customer oriented. The entire experience just leaves a bad taste. Rich McAlpinWritten December 31, 2024

- Nenad M0 contributionsGood tourThe pace was relaxed, allowing us to really enjoy the sights. The only thing that could have improved the experience was a bit more time at some of the key sites. Overall, a wonderful tour and highly recommended for anyone wanting to learn about Bologna's charm!Written December 12, 2024
- A7780VWjeanner0 contributionsAbsolutely terrificSabrina was wonderful. She took us to 5 locations, one more breathtaking than the next, filling in a great deal of history about the early Christian era as well as Ravenna’s evolution. It is difficult to overstate the impact of these huge but remarkably detailed images made of small pieces of glass so many centuries ago. One suggestion would be that the tour could have been even better if she had used one of those radio transmitters that so many guides are using these days. But I can’t downgrade her at all for this. She was always audible and intelligible, and we appreciate what she added to our experience. The company could make the signing-up process a bit clearer, as I suggested to Chiara.Written December 1, 2024
- christianbrorholmm0 contributionsAuthentic and informative history tour in city centerMaria guided us through city center, in a small group. She told us stories about the people, cultures, and buildings of Bologna. This was a perfect way to start exploring the city. Big thanks to Maria for the tour.Written November 25, 2024

- 270vikt_riav0 contributionsNever again! It isn't worth a penny! You just get a ticket what you could buy yourself for 3€ and some negligible vouchers. Avoid it! It is a mere scamp!Written November 12, 2024
- susannehX9714KF0 contributionsVery InterestingThis was a very interesting tour, Benedikta showed us and explained to us the kinds of details that put what we were looking at in context. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, the tour isn't overly long, but the ground is uneven.Written November 6, 2024
- Áron B0 contributionsPleasent Italian ladyWe've walked around the city the previous day and saw 80% that was presented. It was ok. But during this walking tour, we've got a lot of insights and background stories. It was like opening up our third eye or something. I would have regretted if we had to return from Bologna without knowing these amazing things about the city. We got our little earphones and a wonderful authentic lady with a pleasant Italian accent. It took 2 hours which was enough. We could have had questions in the end of the tour.Written November 3, 2024
- FarAway6557420 contributionsStock standard tourThe tour guide was very well informed about her town but there was a bit too much information without any small breaks to take it all in. We also purchased the food vouchers which we didn't think were that great regarding choice of items to eat. It was nice being shown the old lanes where traditional Bolognese food items are made.Written October 20, 2024

- Connector109144991270 contributionsGetting to Know LuccaMy husband and I were introduced to Lucca by Amanda who was our guide for a walking tour. Amanda provided the best way for us to become more familiar with the city. Lucca has a rich history and this was best learned from Amanda who was a former art history teacher. She was informative and very accommodating to our questions, pace and interest. She even showed us a great cafe which we returned to several times. I highly recommend Amanda and this tour!Written October 16, 2024

- Glenn H0 contributionsNot worth itNot worth the added expense. We could have purchased tickets for the train at the same place everyone else did at 1/3 the price. We had no advantage as someone just handed us our tickets to the train, gave us a map of the city, and gave us a voucher for 10 per cent off at some cafe that was way out of the way for us to even find and two other vouchers for samples at places that were also out of the way. We had to wait in line to board the train just like everyone else. We were not given any priority. Definitely not worth the extra money.Written October 11, 2024

This was a wonderful tour and I highly recommend it. The Parmigiano Reggiano cheese process was fascinating. We were right with the workers for every step of the process. Then we got to eat some cheese of different ages with wine. Great! On the way to Parma ham (Prosciutto) we got to see the beautiful countryside of Parma. At the factory they took us through every step of the process. Very interesting. This tour should definitely be on your To Do list.
Our problem was our train tickets. When we first got them. I thought they were fine. Then I was told they must be validated before use. That was a complete nightmare. We talked to multiple people at the train station. They said they couldn’t validate them. Only the person (business) could do it. With the help of multiple people we got on the train and eventually the return ticket got validated so going home was no issue.

Thank you Linda for your review! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour and appreciated the regional delicacies, as well as found the production processes fascinating!
Regarding the train tickets, we're sorry to hear that you encountered difficulties with validation. Unfortunately, this is an operation that is beyond our control. That's why the day before the tour, we send a message with detailed information on how to properly validate the ticket, along with all the details about the day and any necessary instructions. Customer satisfaction is extremely important to us, and to achieve this goal, we make sure that everything is clear by contacting each participant by phone following the message sent the day before. Please know that if this happens again, we are available to assist you with any needs through the contact information provided!

This was a wonderful tour to be on. It was a small group 8 which was personal and very informative. Our guide spoke excellent English and had a good sense of humor. Everybody enjoyed the tour. I’m glad we had a small group. Many of the other tour groups were 30-40 people And they could not hear their guide.

The guides were excellent and very informative and accommodating. The food and the wine were fantastic and the places we visited were welcoming, clean and professional. The bus was air conditioned and comfortable and the food portions and quality were the best we have had so far. The final stop was perfect and the staff was absolutely the best. I’d highly recommend to others.

The trip is poorly organized and is too expensive for what it offers. Quality/price: a shame. E.g. The train ticket Bologna - Parma (round trip) costs 30 euros, in reality I paid 16 euros. The service leaves something to be desired.

We signed up for Parma trip to tour Parma cheese and prosciutto factory from Bologna. The contract was that we supposed to take the train from Bologna to Parma with train tickets supply by tour company: Bologna Travel. Our schedule was taking 7:30am train to Parma and when we arrived, we will take a minivan in front of NH Hotel at 8:30am to start the tour.
On the day of the travel, we did what was told. We took the 7:30 am train to Parma. However train was running 10 mini late. I “WhatsApp” to the tour company and alert them the train was late and please wait and don’t leave us behind. We noted that the message was received but no response.
Since we had never been to Parma, we didn’t know where was the front of the train station entrance(tour company didn’t instructed), we ended up exited at the back of the train station and wasted 5 more minutes to ran to the meeting site: NH Hotel. By the time we got to the meeting site, it was 8:50am. The place was deserted, no people, no vans. We contacted the travel company many times, they don’t know what was going on either. My husband and I stood outside in the cold for 30 minutes in a unknown city and empty lot, it was quite unnerving and very upsetting. Travel company eventually get back to us 1/2 hour later and said because we were late, the tour left without us! What!!!!
The tour operator eventually picked us up at Parma station 40 minutes later and took us separately to the factory while the rest of the tour continued with their factory tour. We missed good amount of the tour and eventually joined up with the tour.
We follow everything to the dot on what the tour company instructed us to do before the tour and we alerted them in advance that the train was running late, why was it our fault that the train was late and ditched us behind???????!!!!!!
As you can checked on your record, my husband and I signed up for so many tours for our 16 days in Italy with TripAdvisor and we had very positive experience. But this tour was the worst experience we had!
Apparently, there was a breakdown commutation problem between the tour company(Bologna Tour) and it’s operator. If they don’t check the train schedule for the clients coming from Bologna, they SHOULD NOT even have that tour! Most of all, don’t blame the clients!
