In Bologna, where the city is known for the country’s oldest university and food. We had two tour options, the college or a food tour…. Easy decision for me…. We chose this tour, based upon personal taste preferences and hoping to learn more about the local culture and history. We were not disappointed

Our first stop was tagliatelle with ragu, followed by a walk through one of the many open markets in the city on a Saturday morning. The next stop - pizza, where the thick crust was so light and delicious, your taste buds couldn’t believe what your eyes were seeing.

The third stop we were served cotoletea bolognese (veal & prosciutto in a Parmesan sauce). Honestly, one of the tastiest dishes I ever had. Soon we were trying a rice cake desert at one of Bologna’s oldest bakeries, Paola Atti. The last stop a cappuccino and espresso which are staples in Italy.

No portion was a “tasting size”, but rather something you would get from the restaurant’s menu…. Five stops, 10,000 steps, and a great way to get introduced to the culture of the city and region….

While we were waiting for our food tour to begin, there were several tours passing by that were more architectural based… About half of the participants in those tours had the look of boredom on their faces.

There was no one that had that look in our group. Food and wine and coming together to celebrate food of the region are great ways to make people happy…

Eleanor was our guide and she was “perfecto”. She made sure everyone was engaged and more importantly, she made sure that everyone had enough food to taste…. High five, Eleanor and thank you for making our tour memorable.

It was my first foodie tour ever and it did not disappoint, Bologna being a famous culinary center! Eleonora, our affable guide, led the tour, not only to take us around historic Bologna on foot and sample much vaunted Bolognese cuisine, but she talked a bit also of the famous sights and history of the city . It was a small group, (we were with a young couple), so she could engage everyone, which is not always possible with bigger groups. I highly recommend this tour! I enjoyed the pleasant walks in between food samplings in different areas of the old city. The food of course was the point of this exercise, and it was excellent! The tortellini and the tagliatelle and the assortment of pizza, etc-- all sumptuous! Don't wear tight skinny jeans for this tour!

The experience was good but not as described. Confusing issue about wine. Says it is included but then the guide told us that if you want wine, you need to buy an extra card for 16 euros. But ….. we were then given wine at 2 places anyway. Glad we didn’t buy the card. Visited quite a few places and tasted plenty of food. The description mentions a 3 course lunch. This is eaten across 3 different places.
Guide Eleanora was lovely and explained everything. She also offered advice on places to eat and drink, when we asked about aperitivo bars.

Eleanora was very sweet but I wouldn't call this a food tour. I have been on many, many food tours and you receive lots of information about the foods you are eating and the culture as well as interesting things about the city along the way. The foods on the tour were not interesting, particularly the slice of pizza from a small stand located in a marketplace and the fried chicken. It is not really a tour. It is more just taking you to a few places to eat making this a very poor value. I took another food tour in Naples the following week and it was superb. We got to try unique foods and the guide was so informative not only about the foods but great information about the city. We revisited and ate at three of the places we had tasting at.

Tour was overbooked (12 instead of max. 10) so it was not possible to hear the guide for the whole group. Wine tasting was one bottle for the whole group. We expected to taste some local specials from the small venues, but it was a restaurant hopping (was more or less mentioned in the description).
Nether the less it was a funny night, first venue (different pasta) was great but overall a to expensive for the program.

Good morning, this is an itinerary through various culinary stops, as described, to sample local dishes. These are not small tastings, but a real full meal.

Eleonora was our guide and I thought the tour was excellent. It ranked with some of the better food tours I've done in the past. The tour was well-organized - we walked a nice circle route through the city centre, the walking time between stops was perfect and, in addition to traditional foods you'd expect to try, we visited a lesser-known takeaway spot to try a less traditional culinary creation.

Our guide Eleonora Miotto was amazing. We really enjoyed Tagliatelle with Ragu at Sfoglia Rina- full portion size and very tasty. She pointed out the magical echos around the four corners in Piazza Maggiore and we had fun practicing it. The pizza, veal cutlet, and rice cake were all wonderful finished with coffee. She’s very knowledgeable and her English is excellent. There were four couple and we enjoyed the great company.

This was a very informative tour - not just food but the history behind it and the sites around the city as you walked from osteria to osteria. All of the food was simple but done so well. Very enjoyable and would recommend to anyone! Small children may get a bit tired as it’s quite a lot of walking/strolling but for foodies this is a must. Our guide Eleanora was brilliant.

Tour was disappointing. Started off with difficulty finding the guide (no sign like other groups meeting there); checked inside the bookstore and they knew nothing, so had to call. Food was ok, nothing special. No explanation of anything unless questions were asked by members of the group. Prior reviewers mentioned guide relayed info on history and culture of Bologna, but we just walked from one place to another. We found much better Bolognese food on our own.

Good morning, we are sorry for this review. This clearly is a food tour with locals and is advertised that way. It is not a historical, artistic or cultural tour, so if you were looking for that maybe you should have read the description better before booking. Sincerely

Maria was an excellent host and should us some parts of Bologna we had not experienced before.
Also her knowledge of the history of Bologna was very good and she explained about the important bits with regards the towers.
The places she took us to to sample the wonderful food of Bologna were fabulous and we also learnt about the history of each place and the food we ate.

It was definitely worth booking even if you have been to Bologna before as you learn different things from a residents perspective

We both thoroughly enjoyed the experience
