We’ve many done food tours all over the world… But Loredana was next level! She was kind, energetic and welcoming, and really great with our kids. So many stops! The markets, food, gelato and balsamic tasting... all great! We purchased delicious balsamic and shipped it home. We loved her and Modena! The best day of our trip! - cynthiamI4527TY0 contributionsFun hands-on classWe did the 1-hour class in making the pasta and forming the tortelloni shapes, then tasting. Fun, informative. Instructor had limited English skills, but was great as it’s basically a visual and experiential activity. We look forward to attempting at home, although will likely make the dough with a pasta machine!Written November 15, 2024
- Z7856KIjohnl0 contributionsBook with Darren for any trip!We had the best time with Darren, while we were in Bologna. We did the walk around the city with great food, cheese, gelato and a stop at a local Osteria. That trip was an excellent time. The best part came on Day 2 when we went to a Parmigiana producer, an Acetaia in Modena for a balsamic tasting and a Prosciutteria. In all of the locations, we got walked through with the production processes end to end. We sampled amazing cheese, amazing prosciutto and the Acetaia experience, was the crown jewel. We had the most amazing lunch at the Acetaia in a private room, with a two amazing bottles of D.O.P balsamic at each setting for you to try with all of the foods that were prepared specifically for the balsamic. In every case, I don't know how we could've had more enjoyment out of the trip. Everything was absolutely spectacular. We were also able to make some shortstops along the way to see some very fantastic small castle towns. I would highly recommend Darren for a trip and request the trip that we did as well. It was a new one for his company and he was blown away himself. He is a very knowledgeable person in food and beverage, and is a pleasure to be around for a day.Written October 23, 2024
- LouiseeDM0 contributionsBalsamic vinegar tasting - definitely worth it!I did the Modena Balsamic Vinegar tasting - absolutely amazing! Would highly recommend if you are a foodie. It went for about an hour, the lovely lady was so knowledgeable and learning about how the vinegar is made is actually really interesting. I was able to book this a few days in advance.Written October 15, 2024
- karenbU4390QL0 contributionsNot what I thought, but wonderful. This was great. Sadly, the weather did not cooperate and was very rainy (not their fault) but it required some modification and we spent time in the market indoors. Our guide was so invested in the experience and making it a great time. I will say I thought we were getting the tour Stanley Tucci did in the area as I went to his website and clicked on the link provided. He visited where they make the parmigiana and prosciutto. This was definitely not that. So, a bit disappointed. We drove 3 hours from Montepulciano. It was a wonderful experience and I recommend it.Written October 8, 2024
- Pamela C0 contributionsFantastic food tour of ModenaWhat a fantastic food tour! Loredana our host was exceptionally engaging as she introduced us to the tastes of Modena, from breakfast traditions to dessert, everything is covered. Good introduction to the history of the area and how important food production is in this region.Written September 25, 2024
- lisabinnyc0 contributionsAbsolutely WorthwhileMy husband and I were staying in Bologna but thought it would be worthwhile to take a food tour of another, local village so we selected Parma. The short train ride from Bologna to Parma only added to the sense of adventure and fun. Upon arrival at the designated meeting place w began an epic foodie affair. We have done lots of food tours all over the world. This was a slower, more immersive tour than we had experienced before. Our guide, Lisa, took us into kitchens where we got to make tortellini and pastry shops and restaurants each with a unique specialty, hence story to tell. We didn't think about this when making our reservation, but Parma is a really fantastic place for a food tour because their history and iconic foods are so intertwined. Parma is also incredibly charming and very walkable. We reluctantly boarded the train back to Bologna, sad to say "arrivederci" to Parma but telling ourselves that we will someday return. Thank you, Lisa, and Taste Bologna for a fantastic experience.Written September 24, 2024
- CBFullam0 contributionsCooking Class in BolognaWe had an amazing time learning how to make tortellini, tortellini and tagliatelle! Consuela was a great instructor! Best part was enjoying the food we prepared and a little wine! Would highly recommend!Written September 7, 2024
- A4825DJfrancesm0 contributionsThis is a must-do in Bologna! We had an amazing tour experience with Darren, who clearly has a passion for food. Not only did we get to have a taste of the best that Bologna offers, Darren provides great historical and lifestyle insight of the city with his easy going demeanor, which makes the tour relaxing, tasty and very interesting. We can attest that Darren, who is also a chef, has the best taste - he introduced us to the best gelaterie after all! He can also share many other recommendations if you are visiting other cities in Italy.Written August 25, 2024

Darren’s huge knowledge of the history of the city was matched by his passion for the local foods through his experience as a chef. Darren also provided some great food and wine recommendations and tips for the remainder of our trip. A wonderful way to discover the city (and Pignoletto!)Written August 4, 2024
- G7714TCjuliak0 contributionsPlease arrive with an empty stomachIt was a great experience and we really enjoyed the time spent with our guide Loredana. She explained a lot about the region‘s history of food, showed us nice places in town and the variety of the food was amazing. We started with cappuccino and some breakfast, went to the market, to a Aceto store and finished with ice cream. Highly recommended tour!Written August 2, 2024

My family and I took the Classic Bologna tour with Sara, and it was easily the highlight of our time in Italy. She was so knowledgeable and showed gave us some historical context about the city, as well as (of course) all of the wonderful food we enjoyed through the tour. We all agreed that the ragu we enjoyed for lunch was the best we had our entire trip!
We especially appreciated how accommodating Taste Bologna was to our group - we were 14 people total, and they were able to organize a tour just for our family, and also made sure we had gluten free options for our family member who has celiac. Sara even thoughtfully sent over her favorite gluten free pasta recipe for us after the tour!
Don't hesitate to book this tour for your time in Bologna!!

This was our second tour with Taste of Bologna, having done the Pizza and Gelato tour on a previous visit, this time our daughter joined us and once again we had Sara to guide us through the food and history of Bologna.
We started with an interesting Expresso, you need to do the tour to find out more, then through one of the mercado's, then to the best pasta shop in Bologna, we did it on our last tour and I went at 08.30 the morning before the tour to buy some before they ran out! We tried to make tortellini with mixed success , Sara bought fresh pasta and we were off to explore and then have some ragu, more exploring of the city then the bakers (wow) and then the collect our lunch to be enjoyed with a glass of vino, afterwards more exploring and gelato.
We all had a fabulous time and learnt so much.
Andrea was super helpful with answering question we had and providing restaurant recommendations all of which were really good

This tour was a gift from my friends as a going away present before I relocated to Bologna. I was a part of this tour today 28/2/22 and I loved it!! I was in a group with 6 other tourists and our tour guide was Naima and she was amazing, hopefully she is your tour guide when you do it!!! Naima walked us around Bologna while teaching us about the typical and traditional foods and ingredients of Bologna and the surrounding cities while also allowing us to taste all of it. Aside from all of the great things that we learned and ate during the tour, it was nice to meet and speak to the other tourists and the tour guide. It was such a great experience I had an awesome time I definitely recommend this tour to anyone who visits Bologna.

Most important point - one of our party is coeliac, this was communicated prior to booking and after booking. On the day of the tour this had not been accounted for at all. Meaning this person wasn't able to be included in almost anything and there was no care taken during lunch to make sure they were able to eat the food. We only managed it as a couple of others on the tour helped to keep foods separate that we could make sure they were safe to be eaten. If we had known in advance that this would have been an issue we wouldn't have booked.
Otherwise... Our guide was enthusiastic and it was nice to be shown around parts of the city, however over it was disappointing, especially at the price charged.
The breakfast wasn't actually breakfast but a small portion. The homemade tortellini was served, but again very small portion.
The lunch also wasn't what we expected, it was a rather low effort picnic. Generally we like a picnic, but the food provided wasn't enough for everyone and it was a bit of a difficult set up (and manage as per above).

I apologize for your disappointment, particularly in relation to accommodating the dietary needs of the coeliac member.
I assure you that we take such matters very seriously.
Both my wife and one of my guides are coeliac, so we are well aware of your concerns and understand the frustration of watching others enjoy their meals.
Normally, we provide gluten-free bread or crackers as an alternative to pasta with Bolognese ragù, as well as during the picnic stop at the Osteria.
Something went wrong on that day, and I will investigate the issue with my guide.
Regarding the food provided during the tour, we appreciate your honest feedback.
We apologize for falling short of your expectations in terms of portion sizes and the overall lunch experience. We continuously evaluate our offerings to improve the quality and quantity of our meals, and we will take your comments into account for future enhancements.
Thank you for your understanding and hope to have the opportunity to make it up to you in the future.
Best regards,
Andrea - Taste Bologna

“Breakfast” was one eighth of a cornetto ( crissssnt) and a tiny espresso .Meeting with “artisans” was 5 minutes demo folding a tortellini with a 15 second glance into the shop where pasta was being made. They provided a nice tasting of meats and cheeses in an empty and crude wine bar with a drop of true balsamic but otherwise just a nice walk with a stop for a plate of pasta on a paper olate from a food court, followed by a long walk for two tiny scoops of gelato at the end. Lovely tour leader and operator but the food experience was minimal and the entire felt “ cheap” even to the point if providing small bottles of water - 12 0z size to be shared . For 250 for 2 people expected at least a stop st a oroper trattoria and and interactions with shop keepers, perhaps a bit of background.
The long walk from place to place seemed to just be designed to use up time. Best bet, go to a nice cafe for breakfast and get a WHOLE cornetto, have a walk about and find any trattoria for lunch another order anti pasti assortment of meats and cheeses then walk for gelato. You will end up two hundred dollars ahead which you can use to hire a private car take you to Modrna for a proper tasting of balsamics! This was a pleasant rip off.

After 9 years of tours and +400 5 stars reviews, reading these words hurts.
I've looked into what happened with the guide, and I feel the need to help shed some light.
Our tours are not made to be all-you-can-eat but they focus on small, quality and family places.
It's our job to explain that you didn't have just a coffee or 2 scoops of gelato. You had the best gourmet coffee and the best gelato I can find in Bologna.
I believe walking is an essential part of a tour: it's a way to show you less popular streets with the tips of a local guide. And sometimes quality places are a bit outside the touristic routes.
I'm sorry the tour didn't meet your expectations and I'll work hard every day to improve it.
All the best,
Andrea - Taste Bologna

Overall, we found the price of 115€ per person for what was on offer to be much too high. A price of 60€-70€ would have been reasonable in our opinion. The tour guide was very nice , but it was told so much that at some point you were no longer able to absorb . ( it is not enough to understand and speak English, you really have to speak the language very well , if not you are out at some point ,as much too strenuous) The stops on the tour fell short of our expectations overall . 1. Stop : Breakfast, one pastry per person would not be too much to ask for, instead 3-4 pastries for 9 people, well ! 2.Stop market hall , well nothing special there was again a mini portion of tortellini in Brodo ( but were delicious ) 3. Stop , make your own pasta , so that was a joke , fold pasta on the sidewalk , you imagine something else when you talk about making pasta. Then walk through Bologna , was very worth seeing all the beautiful food shops ! 4. Stop , the guide took us to a completely overflowing Osteria , there were some regional cold meats goods with bread etc and finally something to drink , unfortunately only wine no water nothing. The toilet in the locality immediately takes you back about 50 years somewhere but not to an EU country . Just a standing toilet for felt 200 people ! Last stop was an ice cream , was quite good about nothing special either. We would have expected that at least a small portion of ragout bolognese would be tried somewhere, which is their absolute specialty , but unfortunately not . Also no tip for a restaurant or something where you get the best ragout, nothing .Conclusion : Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the tour and would not do it for the excessive price. The agency earns with minimal goods and personnel with 9x115€ ( 1035€ ) !! Goods use I estimate at max 100€-150€ all in . Can you just hope that at least the guide will be paid properly, which I can't imagine today!
So that's it
So that's it

I came to Bologna because it is known as the gastronomic capital of Italy, and I wanted to experience the food and learn more. The Classic Bologna Food Tour was the perfect way to start my stay in Bologna. My guide Francesco was so knowledgeable not only about the food, but about history and culture as well. Bologna is a fascinating city with a rich history. I was able to taste many different specialties of the region and get familiar with the historic center of the city. All of the food was amazing and there were so many different things to try while walking through the city over the course of the tour. It was a thorough education, but more than that, it was so much fun and delicious! I highly recommend this tour as a perfect introduction to Bologna and the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.

We did this tour on our first day in Bologna and it was such a great way to immerse ourselves in the city. Lots of great stops with amazing food, and the guide was really helpful sharing lots of tips for places we could go to on the rest of our trip. If you want to eat well and meet some new people this is a great way to do it.

We had a wonderful food tour with Taste Bologna on October 21. Our guide was well informed and brought the city to life. They explained the evolution of the eating experiences in the city and the uniqueness of the food shopping in the Quadrilatero. We got to try making our own tortellini and tasted many of the local specialties within an historic local wine bar.
Highly recommend booking your own experience with Taste Bologna.

I was pleasantly surprised with the overall experience. The right amount of food tastings at each location and explanation of the food, it's origin and the surrounding area. The group before us started late which put our tour behind but I have to say Marco did such an amazing job keeping us engaged and interested in everything that we didn't even realize we were behind! I definitely recommend this tour. As a solo traveler I appreciated the tips on where to go for what since after the tour I planned on staying in the city a bit longer and was able to navigate to the shops and markets I wanted to visit on my own after.

I'm taking a train from Florence to Bologna, is the train station far from the meeting point?
Written April 21, 2022
It’s probably a 30 minute walk from the central station but you can also take a bus from there or a nearby stop that will drop you off really close to the meeting point.

Hi. We are visiting Bologna and love food tours. We don’t eat meat, but love cheese, coffee, pasta, wine, eggs and other dairy products. What would you suggest for a food tour?
