This was the best tour I think my family and I have done. Riccardo was very knowledgeable, funny and we wanted to adopt him. The food was amazing and you felt far more like you’d spent a day in the city with a pal who knows the good spots, as opposed to a tour. The small group is a must.

Wonderful food tour with the knowledgeable and passionate Mattia! We enjoyed all the stops and appreciated tasting things we wouldn't have tried otherwise, like the expensive DOP balsamico. Mattia took the time to give in-depth explanations of all the food, culinary history, wine, ingredients, and recipes we encountered. The highlight was visiting the small pasta factory to watch the sfoglina (pasta makers) at work. He even made some great accommodations for me as a vegetarian. A fun and fabulous way to learn more about the history and food culture of Bologna. DO NOT MISS this tour and grazie mille, Mattia!

What a unique, fun experience. Our guide Mattia showed us Bologna from a food perspective. We ate our way through Bologna and as we ate he told us about the history and customs of the city. Be prepared to eat lots of delicious local food as you learn! Starting with a traditional Italian breakfast snd ending with his favorite gelato and lots in between. We saw the shop where tagliatelle is sold and then went to the little “factory “ where local ladies make and stuff the pasta. Come hungry and be prepared to be impressed. Loved every minute. Mattia is a superb guide.

We had an absolute blast during our food tour with Mattia, our local guide. We were a small group of just 5 people plus the guide, which was ideal. The walking tour included some sightseeing and the guide was very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions about anything from Bolognese history to the Italian lifestyle. The focus of the tour was the local foods of the region Emilia-Romagna, such as cured meats, Balsamico and pasta. There was a good selection of different foods and we learned lots about these foods during the tour. Although the tour was on the expensive side, we definitely thought it was good value for money, considering the duration of the tour (4h15min) and the variety and amount of food served during the tour. We would definitely recommend this tour for any food lover visiting Bologna!

This experience comes HIGHLY recommended. Mattia did a fantastic food tour showing us the highlights of the local cuisine and the art of how pasta is made. He was always open and friendly to all of our questions and he took the time to tell us more about the city. We also received a brochure which brilliantly summarized all of the information we just learned. This tour is perfect for any moment of your trip but I'd personally recommend it right at the beginning of it to have a good idea of what to do, eat and see in Bologna.

Thanks Moises for the great review,
I'm glad to see you had good time in Bologna taking part to my food tour, I agree that it's better to join the tour on first days in Bologna for a great introduction in the local food scenery.
A presto my friend

My wife and I had a wonderful time with Mattia during our food tour in Bologna. It was our first food tour and a perfect way us to get to know Bologna and its culinary delights. One of the highlights of the tour was getting to watch the sofgline make tortellini. Mattia was knowledgeable, informative and provided us with an understanding of the food traditions as well as the history of the city. I only wished that we would have taken the tour sooner -- he had great recommendations for other places to eat and see in Bologna.

Very nicely directed tour with Matthew. We toured Bologna historical city area eating and sampling some wine along the way. Great variety of foods and a very authentic stop at a small osteria to sample wine, food, and local atmosphere. We had about 10 people in the group which was well paced and narrated.
Bologna is a beautiful little city and this is a good way to expose yourself to a bit of what it has to offer

This was absolutely the best experience of our visit to the Emilia Romagna area. Being able to sample/experience so many different local specialties in a single morning, in such a small, friendly group was truly memorable. Mattia has curated this tour well; the pacing was perfect, never felt rushed, nor like we were waiting around, and at the end of it, felt we'd gotten to know Bologna and its unique character really well. Walking part was great, too, a good way to space out the tastings.

A great way to experience all the delicious food Bologna has to offer and learn a bit about the city while you go around. Mattia is a very enthousiastic and relaxed guide, that tells you a lot about the food and the city but you can also have really nice conversations with. A recommendation to do this tour early during your stay so you can make the most out of all of Mattia’s tips.

The best way to familiarize oneself with a city is to know its food and landmarks. Delicious Bologna's tour does this very well. Our guide educated us in the many tasty flavors of the Emilia-Romagna region while leading us to some of the best places to find them in central Bologna. As we did the traveling tastings, he also took us by the most interesting landmarks in central Bologna. You will be glad you took this tour and so will your stomach.

I don't know. He probably won't do the tour if he has only one but in our case we were with two other couples so I'd think if he already had at least two he would add you. you can contact the tour host directly at you can call + 39 3395398730 or email him. the site won't let me include the actual email but it's probably on the contact form; it's just the name of the website plus m.tozzoli

Hi I want to book this tour for two people in November but I wanted to first ask, would it be ok for someone with a severe (deathly) peanut allergy?

Wow! I've no idea. I'd guess it would be OK but you can't really guess when it's something that serious. Contact the guy directly, he's sure to know. It's very professionally run so he must have encountered allergy issues before.

I'm traveling with someone that is lactose intolerant. They will obviously pass on the cheese/gelato, but are there enough other options to still make it worth it?

Yes definitely. I am dairy free and avoided the cheese, had tomato based pastas and pizza with plenty wine, charcuterie and sweet things too.

I will be driving in Italy for the first time. We will be driving from Maranello. Is parking available near the starting point of the Food Tour and will I encounter any driving restrictions?

It is difficult to park in Bologna city centre, so you would need to park outside the city wall and walk in, but it is not far and is a nice walk (30 mins). Bologna isn't that big really. Plus make sure you have CDW insurance for Italy - this is cheaper if you buy it separately rather than through the hire company.

My family and I will be in Bologna on Christmas Day and are wondering if this tour is available that day? It shows availability thru booking, but I would assume many of the small family restaurants and shops would be closed? thanks for your help

Probably best to contact the company directly but I would not think that the food market would be open then.
Hi,the tour sounds lovely, but we have an adult and child that can't eat gluten. Are there gluten-free options for the tour?
