We toured between Christmas and New Year’s Day, and it was very crowded. The lines to get tickets were very long. So we were glad to have this booked. Our guide was a historian and university professor who was extremely knowledgeable. I’ve done my share of reading history, and she knew it inside and out. I learned quite a lot. The Vatican is a little overwhelming. It’s huge and crowded. Certain areas, such as the Sistine Chapel, do not allow photography. As a Lutheran, the Martin Luther Trail in Germany is on my bucket list (booked to go in June 2025). I don’t know why I never considered the Vatican until this trip to Rome. So much to see at the Vatican as well as throughout Rome that frame the actions of Martin Luther in Wittenberg in 1517. Our guide discussed that era from the Vatican perspective, so I particularly enjoyed that vantage point. The story of the paintings in the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo are quite fascinating. I won’t spoil it for those who are unaware. The research will enriches your experience. St. Peter’s Basilica and the catacombs underneath were awesome. Only drawback is it was too crowded.

This was an excellent tour, and very much worth the “skip the line with tour guide” cost, without question. While the Sistine Chapel itself was truly special - the ceiling paintings magnificent, the tour of museums, tapestries, sculptures, and gardens, were also all equally impressive and meaningful. Our tour guide Alessandra was incredible and deeply knowledgeable about all of the venues. She was superb!

Our tour was one hour late despite Tripadvisor warning us that late arrivals would not be able to do the tour. We had another tour booked on the same day which we missed despite having informed the agent that issued the tickets. This is unacceptable.
