About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- KATHY C0 contributionsExcellent tour in EnglishOur guide spoke English very well. She was enthusiastic, gave lots of interesting and unusual bits of information that we might not have ever heard, and was very attentive to any of our questions. She kept track of all the participants and made us feel like she really cared aboutus enjoying the tour. I can’t remember if her name was Lorena or Elena but when she was counting she used so she carried a an identifying stick with a yellow flower with blue petals kind of like a sunflower.Written August 8, 2024
- mail4cme0 contributionsDo not use Viator tours!Do not use the Viator company to book your tours. We booked and paid for a tour and when we arrived the tour guide said my mom was too old and wouldn't be able to keep up. She walked away from us and we did not get to go on the tour. I tried to get a refund and they will not give the refund. Very bad business practice by this company.Written August 5, 2024
- Helen G0 contributionsJuliana was fantastic! Our guide Juliana was fantastic!! So kind and knowledgeable!! She navigated us through the crowds and made sure we all stayed together and answered all of our questions!Written May 21, 2024

It is to the point where it almost feels unsafe. It’s hard to move in any normal sense let alone if there was (god forbid) any sort of emergency. The corridors are bottlenecks and the hundreds of your groups all stop and completely block any path to get through. As for the Sistine chapel. The less said the better. Yes it’s beautiful but the whole experience of being herded like cattle and scolded for daring to stop when the person in front of you stops really takes the shine off it. With regard to the tour itself, the guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, but early on in the tour our group made him aware that we were not getting clear sound out of our ear pieces. It was cutting in and out if at all. We were told to stay close to the guide for best sound (we were at most 2-3 meters away and that simply because of the hordes of people making it almost impossible to stay closer) and that failing that “it is what is is”. I’m sorry?? This was not an overly cheap tour so not being able to hear probably 50% of it clearly enough to understand, being told “it is what it is” really doesn’t cut it. And the cherry on top, the guide left us before the Sistine Chapel, but told us on multiple occasions, that if we want to go into St Peter’s Basilica from the Sistine Chapel (directly this skipping the lines outside) to take the door on the right. This door is marked very clearly for authorised tours only but we did as we were told and were very curly told by security we were not allowed and that our guide has told us something ‘incorrect’. If you want to skip the lines to St Peter’s then your tour needs to include that- it makes sense- but then why tell us all multiple times we can do it ourselves? The whole experience of the museums and the tour has so much potential but is just an absolute money grab from start to finish. Cram as many people as humanly possible in without any thought or consideration given to any sort of safety or comfort implications. Slap a Vatican sticker on any sort of merchandise you can get your hands on (Vatican Jewellery? Really?) and the jewel in the crown, the Sistine Chapel was a jam packed, loud, uncomfortable experience that needs to be far better managed and controlled. Of course you can’t go to Rome and not visit the Vatican Museums but temper your expectations because when then you will still be disappointed, just less so. Oh and the church has money- there is no denying that- so please for the love of god invest some of it in air conditioning. Heat waves and thousands of people jammed together, I’d be shocked if each day didn’t end up with a body count.Written August 24, 2023

- Hannah B0 contributionsPrivate Tour is Great! Dina was AmazingDina was incredible. I had a private tour with her, and it was the perfect way to absorb information and learn with so much to cover. Naturally it is very crowded, due to the popularity of the Vatican, and so a private tour is the best way to see everything, and Dina was amazing! Highly recommend.Written August 8, 2023
- Julie H0 contributionsVery interesting visit…,Finally a very fun and cultured way to rediscover the most beautiful city in the world. The walk through the monuments was a "Real" discovery!!! She has managed to involve everyone (young and old) in the history of Roman wonders. Highly recommended!!! See you soon, thank you!Written July 16, 2023

- Tarina V0 contributionsUnorganized and overcrowdedWhere do I begin on how horrible this tour was? First off it started an hour late. The "skip the line" is basically a cattle call of tour groups going through. I've done a lot of tours and this has to be the most disorganized and overcrowded tour I've ever done. It basically a company that purchases all the tickets so you can't purchase them from the venue itself (I tried sold out). Then the company marks up the price. Fine I'm willing to pay the price to get in but give me a great tour. Unfortunately that did not happen. We were led in to get audio sets (took 45 minutes), then lead to a court yard were the guide just shows you pictures from a book about Sistine Chapel for another 30 minutes . Then your rushed through the museum for a hour, shoulder to shoulder, barely hearing anything, and in the end you wondering what you even saw. If I have one piece of advice it would be to purchase the tickets ( because it's the only way you can get in.... because of the scam) then ditch the tour immediately! When we got in three young girls gave up their headsets and said they would do it on their own. Thought they were rude at first but they were actually on to something. Really surprised that this kind of operation takes place at the Vatican.Written July 3, 2023

She was energetic, a wealth of knowledge, and engaging. She navigated her group of 14 in and around the Vatican City and right past the lines and crowds with ease. You'd be fortunate to get her for your tour. She is a true professional guide. Thank you to Sophie!Written June 21, 2023
