Best tour guide in the city

If you get Lorenzo as your tour guide, consider yourself blessed. His knowledge of the sites as well as Roman history was extensive but on top of all that, his dry sense of humor was some of the best I’ve seen. He does well with making sure the group sticks together and answers all questions you may have. Allora! Please see photo of Lorenzo (on the left) and us on our tour.

Great Tour of Colosseum and Forum

I don't normally do tours as I prefer to go at my own pace with a guidebook, but ticket availability dictated that the only way onto the arena floor was with a tour...

I thought the kids (9yrs and 12yrs) would be bored after 15 minutes...

Fortunately, our guide, the superb Adnan, was full of information and stories that brought ancient Rome to life! His own life story was pretty interesting too :)

Would definitely recommend...

Fantastic Colosseum tour with Agostino / visite magnifique du Colisée avec Agostino

We had a fantastic visit of the Colosseum, Palatine and Forum with Agostino right before Christmas. Hiring a guide for this visit is generally recommended but in our case, Agostino's insights and good mood also made a huge difference. Agostino was super friendly and, whilst being very knowledgeable about the places we visited and providing thoughtful answers to our many questions, he managed to keep our 7-year-olds involved through the 3-hour visit by sharing jokes and anecdotes. Would definitely recommend. Thanks and well done!

Visite magnifique du Colidée, Palatin et Forum avec Agostino just avant Noël. Prendre un guide pour cette visite est recommandé mais, dans notre cas, la bonne humeur et les connaissances d'Agostino ont aussi fait une vraie différence. Il a été très sympa et, tout en ayant une excellente connaissance de la visite et en donnant des réponses précises à nos nombreuses questions, il a réussi a intéresser nos deux enfants de 7 ans tout au long de la visite (3h tout de même) en partageant des anecdotes et des blagues. Totalement recommandé. Bravo et merci !

Not what I expected

I feel this was not worth the money. The guide we had was way ahead of the group and by the time we arrived he had already explained what we were looking at and moving on. There were even a couple of times that he was moving so quickly that we lost him in the shuffle. The tour was suppose to be 3 hours and we were done in less than 2-1/2.
Would not recommend.

Amazing experience!

Anjan was our tour guide and what a fun tour! He was knowledgeable and fun for the younger crowd as well. Gave us time to explore on our own and tips for the rest of our day. The Colosseum, Roman forum and Palatine hill were included and he gave all kinds of historical context and extra content to help us imagine Ancient Roman civilization. Highly recommend! Also skipping the lines with the personal tour guide makes it totally worth the money. We had 14 in our group.

We got to see everything we wanted and more!
We really enjoyed this Colosseum and Roman Forum tour! Our tour guide was knowledgeable and so nice. Being in a the smaller group was nice with quick entry. We booked this tour specifically because we wanted to go on the arena floor, which was a great perspective to have. After we went upstairs to get a view from the parameter. From there we tours the Roman Forum and ended the tour with a magnificent view overlooking everything.

We earned so much we would never have known going on our own, which makes the experience of visiting such historic places so much more valuable. This is a great tour that includes everything we wanted to see and we highly recommend taking it!

Our original tour guide (Enjoy Rome) that we booked via Get Your Guide let us down at the last moment saying they had cancelled our tour due to technical reasons. The Colosseum tour was the reason we came to Rome, so to have it cancelled like that almost ruined our sons holiday. I was put in touch with Saimir from City Walker Tours. He was fantastic, after hearing what had happened, he managed to find a place for the 3 of us despite the shortage of Colosseum tickets. I must say the tour was fantastic, the guide was so knowledgeable and was able to answer all questions put to her. We were able to see all we had planned with the original tour operator, but at a fairer price. I have no hesitation in recommending City Walkers Tours, they were brilliant.

Fantastic Tour and Guide

WOW!! This is an amazing Tour. Obviously the colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill are awesome and they certainly don't disappoint. For us though, they were all elevated by the knowledge of our guide, Simona- she was awesome!

As an archaeologist who has worked and dug at several points around the sights, her knowledge of the subject matter was immense and everyone on the tour left with a bit of extra knowledge.

Also, due to the long queues at the Colosseum, she changed the order of tour, so that we visited the Forum and Palatine Hill first. This had the result that because the tour finished in the colosseum, we were able to stay there and look around on our own.

To summarise- a great tour, and you'll be lucky if Simona's your guide too.-

Great Guide

The tour guide, I think his name was Alex was delightful. He was very informative and was thorough. We loved his book too, because it was helpful to illustrate what the Colosseum would have been like.

I think it's important to get a tour because otherwise you're just looking at ruins and you won't appreciate the history. The skip the line was useful and we got in immediately. They were easy to find as well. I would honestly recommend this company to fellow travellers.

Unfortunately, when we went some of the water fountains in the Colosseum weren't working and it was 35 degrees. It was very hot and most of the tour was under the blazing heat, so i would strongly recommend wearing a hat or bringing a sun umbrella, bring lots of water and some snacks too to prevent heat exhaustion.

Elaine from Canada was our guide and she was amazing; she was patient, calm, articulate, engaging and extremely informative with excellent social skills and a great sense of humour. My daughter and I had already been on a guided tour of the Basilica and Sistine Chapel the day before, so had originally decided that we would do this visit independently without the restrictions that some tours can have. However, we were so pleased that we went with Elaine from city walkers, as she gave us such interesting information that made the tour referenced and therefore relevant. Her whole demeanour was relaxed and therefore completely removed the rigidity of being ushered around and talked at, which was what we had experienced before with another company. We need more Elaines, please 😀😀
