This tour was a hidden gem that most people might skip while visiting Rome. Giuseppe/Joseph was our tour guide who is local to Tivoli and upon arrival until departure at the end of the day he made us feel welcome. Visiting Hadrian's estate was fantastic as almost no one else was there and Giuseppe provided a lot of history of the estate and was able to show now/then pictures that really brought the tour to life. Our version of the tour included the lunch and I would say it was well worth it! The lunch is a three course meal along with water, wine, coffee and bread and for each ticket holder. Visiting the Villa d' Este was beautiful with all the fountains. Touring the inside with the museum was a little fast but it allowed us to see more of the gardens and fountains. All through the trip Giuseppe was checking in on us making sure we were enjoying ourselves and asking if we had any questions. This was our favorite tour outside of Rome during our trip!

Joseph was our guide and he was very good and kind. Might have walked a little fast for me. The bus ride up/back was without issue. Hadrian's Villa was interesting - be aware there is at least 1/4 mile walk up a paved road but it is worth it . Would have liked more time here, the focus seems to be on Villa d'Este and it's fountains/gardens. This is a very nice stop as well, the lunch provided was more than we could eat and just fine. Villa d'Este the gardens are beautiful and the view from the top is incredible. Would have liked to know the amount of stairs involved but that is on me for not doing more research. All in all a very good day with a nice/well informed guide + good food. Oh and I think we were very lucky as we went on a Saturday and was not crowded at either location.

We had a great time with this walking tour. We think that Joseph did a great job of giving the highlights of why both villas are such a big deal. Hadrians villa is such an extensive site that it would have been nice to have been there for another couple hours. Lunch was good. Not a ton of time for souvenir shopping. Pictures came out amazing.

Wow. This trip is not to be missed if you have the time when visiting Rome. Put it on your list of places to visit. Everything went smoothly from first getting on the coach to go our to Tivoli. Once arrived we were met by our guide, a lovely gentleman who still lives in the village of Tivoli. From the coach parking area quite a walk up to the 1st part of the guide. Such knowledge and the guide made everything more interesting lots of explanations. In fact we are from Northumberland and of course once the guide mentioned Hadrian, Hadrians Villa we then had to ask, was this the same Hadrian that built Hadrians wall in Northumberland. Yes it was came the reply. This made our tour even more interesting.
We stopped for lunch, was pleasant surroundings and we sat in good company with a couple from America however the food wasn’t up to much, bland not much flavour and minuscule amounts. Glass of wine was very welcome though.
The next part was Villa d’Este with its history-and spectacular fountains, so beautiful. Highly recommend this trip

We took this tour on October 5th. Our so-called guide was Joseph. We went first to Hadrian's Villa. We saw only a small portion of the villa. And it was fast pace! Joseph showed us pictures Then-Now and without much more info let us walk through the site. See you in 15 min., kind of thing. I had to follow another guide who knew her business to learn about some aspects of the Emperor's life in his villa. (Please note that there is a very steep and long slope to climb in order to reach the Villa. Fortunately, there was a caddy cart to take up some of those who could not climb.) Then, en route for Tivoli. Our old bus stalled many times. That was worrisome. Same mo at Villa d'Este: Joseph was more interested to point out where to buy souvenirs than to do his job of guiding. He left the group venture by itself in the Villa. See you in 30 min. Really! The only good thing about this tour: the lunch at a very nice restaurant in Tivoli. Meals were delicious and staff friendly. Otherwise, a rip off.

Dear Jean Pierre, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such informative feedback. We care to hear about the experiences of all of our customers, and any comments they may have, whether positive or negative. We regret to hear that you were not satisfied with your tour of the Tivoli Villas. We aim to find a balance between providing information and providing freedom to wander around the sites, but it seems that this time the balance was not achieved. It is unfortunate that you felt the guide was not interested in guiding you, as we pride ourselves on providing engaging and insightful tours. Due to the layout of the sites, this tour is not wheelchair accessible; although, we do attempt to support a variety of mobility levels. It is reassuring to hear that you at least enjoyed the lunch in Tivoli; however, we do regret that you felt the tour of the villas was not sufficiently informative. We thank you again for sharing your experience, and we hope that you enjoyed your trip overall. Regards, Customer Services, Tours and Tours

Both Hadrian’s Villa and Tivoli are beautiful, a definite must do tour when in Rome. I would only caution against this tour for those with mobility challenges. There is a long, uphill walk to get to the Villa (they do have carts available to take you up and back but you have to ask for one) and the many steps at Tivoli would make it very difficult if not impossible to see the beautiful fountains, gardens and views found there.

I was really looking forward to this tour, and overall it was great. I will say there was very little time spent at Hadrian’s Villa, but Joseph, our guide, was very knowledgeable.

Villa De’Este was spectacular... there is a reason the gardens are an UNESCO site... words really cannot describe! Again, I would have liked a bit more time on my own to explore.

As for the town of Tivoli, it is obvious that this town is built around supporting these two wonderful sites and the tourist that they attract.

The reason I could not give it 5 stars was the lunch... the restaurant itself was lovely, and it was all set up for us, but you would have thought they didn’t know we were coming... it was a pre-chosen menu (chosen by the restaurant), but the people on the tour who did not opt for “lunch” were able to order from the menu, be served and eat before the rest of us... and, they got a choice in what they were served.

If I had to do it again, I would have done lunch on my own... or better yet, give me a quick sandwich or salad, and shorten the 1.5 hour lunch to give us more time at one of the sites...

Pleasantly surprised with this tour, very happy that we got to experience it. Giuseppe our guide was very good, any questions we asked about the history he knew and answered right away! The food was very basic but would recommend to anyone and everyone!

Seeing both the villa and the gardens was spectacular. I must say it wasn't busy which adds to the overall experience. Giuseppe's knowledge of the area is also a plus.

This has been one of our favorite tours in Italy! Our guide, Joseph, is a native of Tivoli and was able to give us the history of each site with enthusiasm.

Hadrian's Villa was paced well, considering the site is massive! My partner and I felt as if we could have spent days there, but Joseph was able to show us the can't-miss areas. Joseph also had a useful book to show us what the site looked like in 2 A.D. This was helpful since many of the materials were taken away from Hadrian's Villa to construct Villa d'Este. The book helped us envision the true grandeur of Hadrian's Villa.

Villa d'Este is breath-taking. Joseph walked us through the mansion showing us a current art exhibit there and pointing out how the architecture was inspired by Hadrian's Villa. He used his personal connections to take us to some areas that would normally be closed off, and we spent a big portion of the tour in the beautiful gardens.

We really felt as if Joseph was showing us his home, not just historical sites.

Lunch was excellent as well. I'm a vegetarian and the restaurant was able to accommodate on short notice. Often as a veggie, I'm just given a boring salad when a restaurant has a pre-set menu, but the restaurant made an awesome meat-and-fish-free meal.
