    A must-see in Rome
Didn't know what to expect but so glad I saw this. This is the original palace of Nero that the Romans then hid away by filling it in with rubble and literally burying it. The Colosseum was built on part of the palace. It's an astonishing place to visit and exceeded my expectations. If you have no imagination - maybe avoid - it does require imagination to think what it once looked like. My only criticism was that the entrance to the site is not clear. We ended up at Trajan's baths and a call to the tour operator didn't help sort things out. In the end, I took a guess and found the actual entrance.

Please improve directions to meeting point
Lack of directions to meeting point. Took us a frenzied 15 mins to finally locate the correct entrance. Once we were inside, the guide was very informative and the VR experience brief but entertaining. However, the experience was nerve wracking due to almost missing our allocated session.

We absolutely loved it here, such a large and beautiful site! I would recommend getting the VR guide - we didn’t but really wish we did.

Extremely interesting and informative tour of what is an amazing excavation of a magnificent palace. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Graphics brought the whole experience to life.

    Never got to see it
I was sent a voucher for four adults. When we got to the site, the tour operator had entered my name four times ,so legally we could not get the tickets to gain entrance. Why she gave my name four times, I will never know .We called the tour operator at the entrance to Nero’s Golden Palace and she said there was nothing she could do. This was a viatour tour.

    Too expensive what you get
Was very expensive when booking via TripAdvisor. Would have been much cheeper (50€) when directly buying tickets there.

    Nero House Very Interesting
Very interesting tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and was easy to understand. I did have problems getting my tickets downloaded from the company. An employee working at Nero's Golden House was kind enough to let me use his internet to download. Again, a lot of history and many artifacts to view.

Perfect place to cool off and learn some ancient Roman history
Informative and interesting. Brought to light Nero’s affection for Egypt.the restored Frescoes are amazing and the finds are still coming.

    Horrible experience!!
Horrible experience!!! We booked and paid our reservation online but needed to get the actual tickets at the "reservation desk" in front of the Colosseum. We didn't get a description as to where exactly this could be found though, so that we walked around for almost two hours, being sent to different places by every person we asked for help. 20 minutes before our time slot started, we then got an e-mail that our tour was cancelled (which we didn't unterstand because we had booked an Audioguide only). We were frustrated and angry and lost half of our day for nothing!! I cannot recommend TripAdvisor to anyone! Btw: We then bought tickets near the site for 2 days ahead (and even cheaper!).

Awful - do not use this tour
Time was changed and they reassured me after I objected. I could not make it and it was my fault. Total bait and switch. They said they changed my time earlier because their guy was sick. But they somehow added two hours longer. Awful customer service. Their answer: “You agreed” - only because they pressured me and reassured me I could make it from the Vatican to their meeting point in less than 15 minutes. Impossible. DO NOT USE THESE CROOKS.

    Superb
This is definitely one of Romes hidden gems. We had no problems finding the meeting point. The tour guides were enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable. It felt a real honour to explore this hidden summer palace. The virtual reality at the end was the real highlight. Quite incredible. One bit constructive criticism. One or two seats inside the Dome would have been really appreciated. As a tourist I spend a lot of time walking around Rome. I could have really done with a sit down, whilst listening to the guide.

    Disappointingly uninformative
Ruins on an impressive scale with evidence of several mosaic patterns on the floors. However the lack of clear plans and labelling made it difficult to understand the layout of the building.

    Great experience
Excellent tour. The guides English could have been better. Once we become used to his pronunciation, the explanations became more understandable. Overall well worth the visit.
