      Best Kept Secret
This day trip to Ponza & Palmaroia was the perfect way to end our trip. After visiting all the amazing historical landmarks it was nice to relax and see other parts of Italy. Mike really made this trip run smoothly.

      Best Day Trip!!
Michele was born to be a tour guide. He’s the best at providing one of a kind experiences. I’ve taken two tours with Michele - first to Ponza and recently to Bomarzo, Civita di Bagnoregio, and Orvieto - both were the most memorable days of the trip. Rome is one of the greatest cities but there are so many tourist - Michele’s tours takes you to spots where tourists rarely go.

Best kept secret for a Roman vacation!
This tour is the best kept secret in Rome! After days of sightseeing, history, art, and miles of walking, our family was treated to a day with Michele and the beautiful coast. We swam in the perfect waters of the Mediterranean, witnessed the beauty of Ponza and Palmarola, and enjoyed great company. This was a perfect solution to see the coast when we didn't have days to travel, and Michele takes care of all the logistics. I loved that this is where the Romans vacation - it made the experience even more special!

Terrific guided tour of Ponza and Palmarola
We had the most delightful day trip to Ponza and Palmarola. Michele is a terrific guide - helped us get everywhere we needed with ease, and shared many things about the greater Rome area, Ponza and Palmarola that made the experience more fulfilling. He treated us like good friends he was hosting for an island day trip - he was a warm and engaging host. I highly recommend booking a tour with Michele and his team. We will definitely do so again when we return to Rome.

      Garbatella!
My husband booked the Food tour of the Garbatella neighborhood on the Iter Tours website. Our guide was Michele, who is a proud "local" of the neighborhood (we walked by his apartment building during the tour). During the tour, we learned a TON about the history behind this not-very-touristy neighborhood. We also ate a lot of delicious food from locally owned restaurants. The tour started with a glass of prosecco and ended with scoops of gelato-how perfect is that? This was our second tour with Michele. We really appreciated how easy it was to book his tours and how reasonably the tours were priced---especially for the small size and high quality of the tours. We'd booked other Rome tours with larger tour companies and quickly became frustrated by their impersonal nature. We highly recommed Michele and Iter Tours for memorable "boutique" tours.

Best food, best guide, best experience
We were pointed towards an evening Roman food tour with only a few hours to enjoy Rome the day before boarding a cruise. As a chef, and restaurant owner, this has never been my go-to experience, but it was available, and the other three in my party loved the idea. With a new friend from Austin, Texas, the five of us connected with Michele (my grandfather’s name!) and launched into our food adventure, a local food tour in the Trastevere area in Rome. The best food in any city is where the locals go, so we ate in some of those same places. Cheese, pasta, fish, cured meats, gelato, and vino — it was far more than a great meal, and the views of the city, and the Tiber at night, were tremendous. We discovered US connections with Michele, which created an even more excellent experience than the food alone. The food was wonderful, but Michele’s accounting of the history, and the food-making stories, made it even better. After 26–years of guides and tours, and having led/guided tours myself, I can say that Michele was one of the best guide experiences we’ve had. So good in fact that, after embarking on our cruise and knowing we’d have an afternoon in Rome before our flights home upon our return, we reconnected with Michele for a tour of the Catacombs in Rome. Fantastic! We’re looking forward to future visits where our first call in Rome will be to Iter Tours.

Extraordinary Ponza & Palmarola, and Colosseum Tours!
My husband and I took 2 private tours with Itertours and Michele on our most recent visit to Roma. We did a day trip from Roma to Ponza and Palmarola, along with a Colosseum/Palatine Hill/Forum tour. Itertours were exactly what we were looking for; private, personal tours with the ability to customize around our finer points of interest. For the Ponza/Palmarola day trip, Michele managed all aspects of the logistics; meeting us at the hotel to be whisked by private car to the ferry, joining up with our captain and private boat on Ponza. Not worrying about transfers, tickets, times, missing the ferry back, etc., allowed us to fully relax and enjoy the day in paradise. Whilst touring around the islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea, Michele provided detailed history of everything from Roman grottos to indigenous flora to pirate hideouts. Combining impressive familiarity of the islands along with being extremely adaptable, Michele picked up on our interests and suggested activities based on them. The Colosseum tour was like being transported back to Roman times. Michele’s in-depth knowledge of antiquity is phenomenal. As is his ability to explain ancient concepts in an accessible way. Again, being incredibly adaptable, finding out about my love of the Palatine Hill, he made it a prominent part of the experience. Our trip to Roma was all the better thanks to IT tours and the time spent with Michele. The expert planning and the wealth of knowledge gave us an experience that will always stay with us. We are looking forward to our next Roma visit, and taking the Itertours Roman Food Tour!

      Excellent Local Roman Food Tour
Great tour of some of the best food I’ve had in Europe. We enjoyed our tour guide Fiona’s fun descriptions of both Italian and Roman culture and food. The shops and restaurants visited were family owned and all had amazing flavor. We took this tour on our first night in Rome and we are very pleased that we did. Thank you Fiona!

      Exceptional Tour
We had an incredible time on the Criminal Tour with Michele. The tour was educational and insightful. Michele is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Rome. We took several guided tours during our two-week vacation in Italy and this tour was definitely one of the best. I wish we had found Michele sooner - I think we would have enjoyed some of his other tours as well.

Amazing! Hands down one of the most memorable days of my life! Michele was fantastic! My husband and I felt like we were hanging out with a good friend who was showing us his favourite spot! Perfect trip for families or couples — can’t say enough about this 10 out of 10 experience!

      Ponza with Michele
Ponza was the perfect day trip from a too hot Rome. For the kids, it was also a welcome break from sight seeing ruins and old world sights. Highly recommend! A tour guide could not be more friendly than Michele. He was a prompt communicator and in person. He did everything in his power to meet our group's needs, we had 5 adults and 5 kids from ages 8-14. There may be some things out of his control such as boat you get and how long you spend at each stop. We are a critical group and I am 100% sure that Michele will go to great lengths to advocate for the group he is hosting. From the ride from Rome, to the Ferry, to the boat excursion. Michele is honest and a gentleman. He is professional and courteous. Thank you Michele for a special and memorable day! Ponza was the highlight of our 5 day stay in Rome.

      OUTSTANDING TOUR..5 STAR!!!
My family and I wanted to have a day outside the Roman city, and wanted some fun in the sun. We had the absolute pleasure to take the day trip to Ponza with Itertours. A well organized, detailed oriented day! The experience from the moment Michele met us at our meeting point was nothing short from the very best. Michele made sure our drive to Anzio was comfortable, the ferry ride to Ponza was arranged, and the highlight of the day, the six hour cruising with swimming, diving and eating around Ponza and Palmarola was an experience we would want to write home about! The setting was something out of paradise, and the waters were cool, and refreshing. The kids also enjoyed jumping off the side of the boat, and being adventurous. Both adults and kids alike enjoyed the onboard lunch of Pasta. After our wonderful day, we again did not have to think about a thing as Michele took care of everything for us. Michele is knowledgeable, gave us fun facts and info throughout the day and made great conversation with us. Should I find myself in Rome again, I will without a doubt book Itertours, and Michele with confidence knowing I am getting the best of the best! Thank you again for one of our Top Ten Family Days EVER!

      Awesome trips!
We did the Ponza day trip and the crypt/catacombs with Mike/Michele and they were both fantastic experiences and highlights of our trip! Mike is a very knowledgeable and engaging tour guide and has a strong talent for balancing information and entertainment while keeping even the younger ones tuned in. Book and you won’t regret!

      Full day boat trip
We booked this for our first vacation in Italy. Luckily Michele was friendly and full of information but was not overbearing. Our group was small, which was good because he was able to communicate with us all without either families feeling ignored. He speaks English very well and Italian so it was great to hear him relay information from the boat captain. He is also friendly and relaxed. Someone you wouldn’t mind talking to if you ran into him at a local restaurant. I also needed to buy some towels once we arrived to Ponza and he was able to negotiate price for me. The boat did not stop for very long in either place but I wish we could spend more time at two locations and especially the shipwreck beach. Three beaches didn’t provide enough time to relax and enjoy. Overall we would do this again and I would be open to Michele’s other tours.

A fantastic tour of a hidden side of Rome, especially great if you are looking for something more than the usual ruins, statues and paintings. Mike really knows his stuff and makes history - both recent and ancient - come alive. Highly recommended!

Our tour guide was genuinely passionate about the history of Rome which made this tour so interesting. We saw parts of Rome we probably would not have known to look for as tourists, or parts we could have forgotten to see. I completely enjoyed everything we learned and were shown! My personal highlight was seeing where Julius Ceaser was stabbed, somewhere we may have missed without this tour! We were also the only two people on the tour which made it so much more personal. Our guide even took us to get some food in a little traditional bakery we would otherwise have missed. Overall, it was enjoyable, intellectual, fun and I would do it again if I went back to Rome! 10/10.

Mike did an incredible job explaining various events in Rome that you typically do not hear on a regular tour. He is full of knowledge and so willing to share it with others. He made our walk enjoyable and entertaining. Great job!

Passionate and genuine human who wants you to know everything about Rome’s history that isn’t typically told. Full of knowledge, this fast-talking Italian made his subject interesting! Finished with a coffee at what is rated as the best in Rome by Trip Advisor, Michele is unexpectedly generous.

My husband Bob and I have been vacationing in Rome for about a week. I’ve been to Rome many times but he has only been once about 30 years ago. We went to all of the obvious sites then I stumbled onto the Criminal Tour of Rome. Bob loves history (he is also enamored by anything having to do with the Kennedys.) I thought the tour sounded like a good mix of history, politics, mystery and power that we both would enjoy.

I contacted the guide, Michele, and arranged to meet him in a small piazza close to the Pantheon. We were pleasantly surprised that Michele spoke not only perfect Italian, but an Americanized-English like you’d find on any top American university campus. Michele swept us away with his enthusiasm and vast knowledge of history and politics and served up a small sampling of Roman crimes ranging over 2,200 years whose impact have shaped our lives today.

All this done by taking you to the actual sites where the crimes took place. Michele engaged us with questions and allowed for interesting discussion. He ended the tour by taking us to a small bar where they claim the best espresso in Rome.

    Pretty damn good!

After a month in Italy and umpteen tours, we needed something different. Michele provided the "darker" side of Roman history, and it rounded out our knowledge and understanding of true history much better. Highly recommend.

We strongly suggest using this operator and ask for Fiona if you want an authentic experience that engages everyone in your group and you want a guide with passion and knowledge.

We found the exploration entertaining and provide a great look at the city during twilight. The tour was fun.

Fiona was very engaging to our family and went at pace that was perfect. She has great experience and knowledge of Rome historically and today!

    Very pleasurable and informative.

This was time well spent in Rome!

    Enjoy

My husband and I took the "Criminal Tour" on Halloween evening, our third night in Rome. We were so happy with our experience that we booked another tour with Michele and Itertours the next day!

The tour is packed with historical and contemporary information--by the end, I felt like I had taken a college course, rather than a 3-hour tour. My favorite take-aways from the tour were the stories about the elephant statue outside the St Maria Sopra Minerva Basilica and the tragic murder of Aldo Moro. Take the tour to find out what I mean! Oh, and also the coffee was absolutely delicious!

Our guide, Michele, was friendly, super-organized and extremely knowledgeable. He is obviously passionate about history and he answered every question we threw at him with ease! The tour was easy to book and very reasonably priced. Our group was small, so there was plenty of time of personal interaction with the guide which we appreciated.

I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in a look at some of the fascinating "criminal history" of Rome!

Me and my wife went on the English language criminal tour with Fiona. The tour was highly enjoyable. We were able to see parts of Rome that we would not have discovered otherwise. The often grisly stories were captivating and, as told by Fiona, far more interesting to listen to than the other standard audioguides or big group tours we have experienced this far in Rome. The tour offers an interesting look into several different time periods, both ancient and modern. In addition to the tour content, our guide was very knowledgeable about the city in general, very fun to chat with, and very willing to answer our questions. An enjoyable experience all around.
