Did not give us all we paid for
Starting on a positive note (and the reason I even gave a few stars), the guide was great! He really knew his stuff and was an expert on Roman life. As for the tour company, not happy with them. The tour was supposed to include the tour of the Colosseum Underground AND the Forum and Palantine Hill with skip the line access. Before we left started the tour of the Colosseum, the tour company told us to be back at the meeting place (which was about 10 minutes from the Colosseum due to the distance and crowds to walk through) at 3:45 to go to Palantine Hill with a guide. Our first guide had us in the Colosseum until 4:05, so no one was able to get back to the place to meet the second guide and go to Palantine Hill with them. Palantine Hill closed at 4:30 that day, so unless you ran there and went through the super-long line, you didn't get to see it, let alone with a guide. The tour company should have been in contact with the guide to let him know to return us to the meeting place in time to see both, since that is what we paid for. If they were worried about things running long, they shouldn't have set up such a late first tour knowing Palantine closed so early. I asked for partial refund, and they said no.

Excellent leaders who were a font of knowledge. They knew there stuff
Both tour leaders were excellent - lots of information provided underground and in the forum . I have visited the colosseum and forum twice before but the information provided was additional to what I heard before. It wasn’t a replay of the usual information

    GetYourGuide Money Grab
WARNING: DO NOT BOOK this tour through GetYourGuide !!! We booked 5 tickets and paid a huge premium for the much-anticipated Underground portion of this tour. The total cost was about $1,120 Cdn, which is more than twice the cost of a guided group tour without the Underground portion. First, the activity provider (The Ultimate Italy) changed the tour time from 8:45 am to 8:15 am less than two days before the tour; ok, so we agreed to that. Unfortunately, upon arrival at 8:00 am on the morning of the tour, we were informed that the Underground portion was cancelled due to rains and flooding from the day before. We expected to get a refund for that cancelled portion commensurate with the premium we paid, but after many attempts at requesting fair compensation, the The Ultimate Italy and GetYourGuide refunded only 25% of the tour cost, clearly benefiting from the cancelled portion at the customer's expense. This company is simply not interested in providing either fairness or customer satisfaction; it is a disgusting money-grab. Go elsewhere, or buyer-beware.

    Underground is Worth the Price
Barbara was our tour guide and she was AMAZING. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She advocated for our group to be able to take pictures at the best spots. Highly recommend paying for the tour that takes you underground. One of the best experiences we had in our whole Italy trip.

    Underground cancelled days before
Preface the review to say that WE were late, admittedly because one person in our party woke up sick the day of the tour and we had to get them settled before leaving. That being said, I found the organizers to be rude. Nothing was explained to us, we were not given the option of joining another group and when I tried multiple times to contact someone to ask questions, my emails went unanswered. We also were sold an underground experience which was cancelled and I have reached out to inquire about the promised 25% refund and have not received an answer or a refund. Honestly, save your money and just buy skip the line tickets only, download Rick Steves guide and do it on your own. We ended up downloading his tours and it was a win.

    Sad
We were booked to see the "Colosseum and Arena Floor: Guided Tour" in May. We selected the later in the day tours since reviews suggested it would be less crowded and cooler. As first time travellers to Italy, we knew the date of the tour was the final day of the Tour d'Italia and that it would be finishing up with 8 laps around somewhere in Rome. We met at the appointed place, it took tour organizers a bit to get their groups figured out and we moved into the queue to access the Colosseum. We waited, along with hordes of people and after 45 minutes were told that our tour would have to be cancelled with full refunds offered since the Tour was in fact happening right before our eyes and no one was allowed to cross into the site. We were leaving the next day and so were not able to do the tour at all... To the company's credit, a full refund was promptly received, but we were left to wonder: - if they had been prompter in getting groups organized, could we have made the tour prior to race start (a likely yes)? - did they not know the Tour was on? They had all our contact info and could have tried to reschedule us.. -why did guides seem so surprised about the race and all the details (eg 8 laps/access closure) - many of the tourists knew details? Sadly, we never got a tour...

    Not an Underground tour
The tour of the colosseum was amazing but there is no availability to go underground. We got an email 2 days before the tour telling us they were changing the tour and we would not be able to go underground. They offered a 25% refund (which we have not received) the tour guide was great!

Thumbs DOWN: Get Your Guide - Rome: Colosseum Underground & Roman Forum Guided Tour
Really disappoint with my experience. We booked the tour through Get Your Guide for the 3rd June (not sure if this tour is out sourced - not my issue). Money taken and about to head off on holiday's thinking all is OK. I get a Whatsapp message from Norman telling me that " The monument has advised this tour won't operate: on the day we booked. I would love to believe this but have read way to many reviews and experiences from travelers - they simply did not get an allocation of tickets and we happen to miss out. Not good enough. There are so many reviews that guided tour organisers do this - bloody ridiculous.

    Fantastic tour
When we received notice that we would not be able to tour the underground area, we were nervous about the quality of the tour. But on the day of the tour, everything was well organized and ran smoothly. Barbara, our tour guide, was AMAZING. She was super knowledgeable, funny, and kept it interesting. Her depth of knowledge really brought the forum and ruins alive. The tour was not rushed at all and we had plenty of time at each location. Barbara even helped us take photos! I couldn’t ask for a better tour or guide.

    True Historian and Story Teller
Our guide was amazing and had such a wealth of historical knowledge that we learned so much. He was such a wonderful story teller that we could’ve sat on the ground and listened all day. Fantastic tour and a most excellent guide.

    Wonderful, memorable experience
We are a family of 4 to join Barbara as our guide through the Roman ruins and the Colosseum. We had a great time skipping the long line to enter the Colosseum, learning about the history, wondered what it would be like to be in this stadium almost 2000 years ago. We were able to take quite a few great family photos in the Colosseum thanks to her divide-and-conquer strategy to colonize spots for our group. We could not be more pleased to join this tour and have Barbara as our guide. Thank you!

    Underground Tour & Forum walk
Pay the extra and do the underground tour, an amazing perspective. Not many tourist down in the underground as it's very restrictive access. You also get restricted access to the area the Pope performs his Easter service from. The Forum tour was a bit rushed but still very informative, you can revisit within 24 hours of your ticket purchase.

Great tour but be prepared to wait in lines
The tour guide was amazing and so knowledgeable - she shared so many stories and we learned so much. I wish we had more time in the forum - the lines we super long to enter the forum and we didn’t have a timed entry so we stood in line for a long time. That was the only bummer - the rest was fantastic!

I thought it was a bit of a gamble paying so much for a tour but I can honestly say it was worth every single penny. Norman was our tour guide and was absolutely fantastic. He was extremely knowledgeable and obviously loves his job. He was so enthusiastic, friendly and funny, we couldn't have asked for a better guide.

He took down in the depths of the colloseum which was fascinating, you could feel the history around you, Norman really brought it all to life. We explored the 'behind the scenes' and went along footpaths reserved for special, smaller tours as well as well as the general areas.

After our tour of the colosseum, Norman took us to Palatine Hill including the forum. At the start of the tour there was seven of us but the three guys and another couple decided to stay on at the colosseum rather than continue the tour which was good for us as we had Norman to ourselves, it really felt like a private tour.

We can't thank Norman enough, he made our visit extra special. We spent a good 4 and a half hours on the tour altogether, we felt there was no rush and we would highly recommend it. Maybe during the more busier months it wouldn't have been as long but we are in no doubt you would still get the same personal experience we did.

What a lovely insight in to the grand icon.
Thanks to our Guide Serena we had a lovely time - kept away from the burning sun with some lovely anecdotes, insights, some humour and overall a great insight in to the history of this great piece of architecture.

It was a lovely tour and would highly recommend it expecially going underground to see how the gladiators worked stayed and went about their business. Also shows how they got up along with the animals and how the slaves were used and did their business back in the day.

Cannot recommend Serena enough who was lovely explaining and showing things as we went about.

Giving this 4 stars since it was a bit disorganized and our start time was changed twice. The “ office” is extremely small, like one person at a time small. And the only place to wait is outside. We went in July so it was extremely hot with little shade. Obviously they have no control of the temperature but the beginning of the tour was erratic.
Once we entered the Colosseum, our guide was funny, upbeat and entertaining. I would not recommend going when it is hot, there is very little shade and a majority of the tour is in the full sun. Bring a hat if you go in the summer

We booked colloseum underground tour and palatine tour for 3pm Sunday, got a text late the night before saying the tour was moved to 11am,we rearranged our whole day to suit this.
Just before the tour started we were told we were not getting the underground tour as booked and that the palatine tour was not going to be until 4:30pm which we were then unable to attend.
Very poor communication! We were told we would get a partial refund which never materialised in the following 2 weeks, I had to apply for a refund even though I was told it was coming.
After only being able to attend 1 of the 2 tours available, and the one attended not being the 1 booked we have been offered €50 refund out of €189. Unnacceptable

I paid extra for a guaranteed maximum 12 person tour but my group had 22 people. Time was also changed from 10:40 to 12:15 when I showed up which interfered with my plans for the day. Headphones were also shoddy. We were all complaining about inability to hear our guide. Manager claimed that anything less than 50 is small group so no refund or discount for reneging on guarantee. Then said his manager would contact me for refund. Five days later still no contact and no way to file claim with Trip Advisor that I can find. Extremely disappointed.

Approx 14 people in the tour and Rita was a really knowledgable & friendly guide. Worth paying the extra for the underground access of the coliseum

The whole tour was approx 4 hrs at a leisurely pace. We toured in June & it was quite hot so take a water bottle & make sure you put on sun protection

Exercise utmost caution and prudence when considering the tour group known as Explore Italy, also operating under the moniker Italy with Family. This entity engages in the procurement of official guided tours in bulk, only to resell them to unwitting tourists at exorbitant markups, often tripling or quadrupling the original cost. We were victims of this particular tour operator, unfortunately…

Their customer service is notably delinquent, marked by discourtesy and a lack of responsiveness, particularly in adapting to weather-induced alterations and in providing essential details like meeting times. A cursory perusal of their negative reviews reveals a consistent pattern of grievances, just click on the negative reviews and one shall find similarities. This tour operator is prone to making unannounced changes, compromising the integrity of the travel experience.

For an authentic and direct tour experience, it is advisable to see the official government site of Rome’s ruins - coopculture.it
Here, for instance, a night tour of the Colosseum's underground is offered at a reasonable rate of 25 Euros.

In the interest of a satisfactory and genuine exploration of Roman ruins, it is highly recommended to steer clear of this tour group.

The tour starred at 2:45, at 2pm I received a phone call asking where we were. They stated they moved the tour time and messaged me through what's app, which I don't have, so the was not received.
The tour is done through headsets and the guide was older and very dry, it was difficult to stay interested. We tried to fill up a water bottle at the fountain, and the guide got upset and told us to stay close. It was not crowded, we were not going to lose him.
When we went to the underground portion, the guide could not come, and we were passed off to someone else who spoke no English, so we have no knowledge of anything we were looking at.
I wish i could have canceled this tour ehen they chabged the time, but they would not issue a refubd. It would have been better if we would have toured the area by ourselves.

Our tour of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum was fairly nice. Our guide was Davide, and most of the pace was pretty decent, except near the end of the Forum portion we had to rush to get to the Colosseum on time, and that was hard on my parents who are in their 70s, and it made it difficult to take any pictures or appreciate what we were seeing. I'd highly recommend getting a tour of both the Colosseum and the Forum, especially one that includes going down into the dungeons, and with so many options for tours and companies, this one was adequate.
