Fransisco was amazing. He created the perfect tour for both adults and kids. Giving us enough history to satisfy but keeping it filled with fun facts and questions to keep the kids engaged. There was no waiting in line and we felt like a VIP getting around so easily. We never felt rushed private tours of Rome can be trusted to make your trip amazing.

Maria, our guide, made it really special. She was kind and considerate from the start. We were whizzed through the entrance. The detail and insight she gave on the Sistine Chapel at the beginning was awesome, and got us really engaged. She answered every question, and knew all the best things to see in the museum.

Absolutely recommendable for young children. the guide had small games/scavenger hunts for the young ones, while explaining the pieces of art to the grownups.

Before booking the tour we had some questions about the length of the tour. The main text suggests it was 2.5 hours, but the itinerary suggested that some of the stops were longer. The actual answer is that it was about three hours.
Secondly, after booking the tour there was a comment that we should allow 20-30 minutes to go through security - we wondered if we needed to allow this before meeting our guide. Answer: you meet your guide on the steps outside the Vatican Museum, and go through security together. Couldn't be easier.

Now - on to the tour! Our party of four was joined by another family, and the seven of us set off. Anna engaged the children effortlessly and involved them directly including some challenges for them as we went around. She pitched the material well for them (as well of us) and got the measure of our children's personalities quickly.

If we had tried to visit without a guide I think we would have been having to hustle through quickly, but the only complaint from the children was that their feet were tired rather than anything else! An ice cream soon sorted that!

We had a fantastic tour of the Vatican Museum, St Peter’s and The Sistine Chapel. We were met by Francesco at the designated meeting point. Another family of 4 joined us on the tour. We proceeded through security no waiting in line. Francesco got the tickets again no waiting. Prior to commencing the Vatican Museum Tour Francesco produced a book with all the paintings from the Sistine Chapel. He then proceeded to explain each one in a fun and informative way. We are family of 5, 3 boys (14/12/10). Francesco asked the boys to try find a few of the paintings he had described once in the Sistine Chapel. This engaged the kids and they were more focused in the Chapel. He also quizzed the boys in the Vatican Museum in relation to ancient Roman Gods. He made this entire tour great with his humor, fun and passion for Roman History and Art. Do not hesitate book this tour. We went to St. Peter’s which is amazing, and then to St. Peter’s Square. Francesco allowed us some time to purchase gifts in the Vatican gift shop. The tour is a little pricey when paying for 5 but you do not queue and when you see bigger groups trying to get around and long queues for tickets that alone is worth the extra. My 14 year old said it was the best thing on our Rome visit. Thank You so much Francesco. We also climbed the Dome which is €10 each if you take the elevator half way or €8 each if you climb the 551 steps. The guy at the ticket desk only charged us for 3 so it was worth 24 euros to see St. Peters inside and outside the city and St Peter’s Sq. We were blessed with a super clear day so the views were great. Thanks for recommending this Francesco.

Overall, I would rate the tour a 9+. The tourguide, Dario, was very helpful, and knowlegable. He recommended that we climb up to the top of the cupola, which involves taking an elevator up about halfway, and then walking the rest of the way (it cost an extra 10 euros each person, but it was worth it). The view was amazing from the top of the cupola. You can pay 8 euros and walk and climb all the way up, but that's a bad idea - elevator is worth an extra 2 euros.

We also skipped the lines, which is definitely something you want to do. We basically did not wait in line to get into Vatican City and St. Peter Square, whereas if you don't go on a tour, with the skip the line feature, you are going to wait in line for at least an hour or maybe two or more hours, depending on the time of year. The tour of the museum was pretty fast, but it covered the important stuff adequately. The Vatican museum is not your typical museum, but mostly a very long long hallway with tapistries and paintings and very elaborate decorated walls and ceilings.
