So what's a trip to Rome without seeing the Colosseum? When my wife and I booked our trip to Rome we knew this was a tour we certainly had to take. I was on the fence on whether to pay the extra for a private tour or just get a "small group" tour and tough it out. After visiting I'm thrilled that we went the private tour route.
To begin the fact that the tour was a skip the line tour made it worthwhile. Our visit was in February which is the "slow" season and I can tell you the lines were incredibly long. The ability to meet our guide and walk right past all the waiting people and into the arena was awesome. Once inside our amazing guide Tommaso filled us in on tons of facts and stories I'd have never known about the Colesseum or the Forum from simply reading tour books and history lessons. Tommaso was an archeologist from Rome and his knowledge was second to none. Additionally the "small group" tours I saw walking through the arena and Forum were mostly 20 plus people and I personally wouldn't have enjoyed the classroom feel of that versus the personal touch of having a guide to tell us these stories and answer all questions large or small.
All in all this tour was fantastic and I recommend it 100%. Request Tommaso you will not be disappointed!!!

Fantastic tour with our guide Tomasso. Our guide was not only extremely knowledgeable but was really engaging with us and the time flew. I now look at Rome with a different eye and learnt so much in a short time. At no time was I ever dis interested in what he had to tell us and I only wish we had used this company for the other tours we did.

Thanks to guide Veronica thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Collaseum and Forum she was so passionate about everything and very informative. The weather was just right and time went quickly. Make sure you wear very comfortable shoes. And take camera. Plus by paying to jump the queue worth every penny.

Had a great tour with Letizia who was very knowledgeable on the sites visited and very entertaining; she also spoke very good English. The group met at the tour company's office and completed the tour on foot in about 3 hours. Would definitely recommend this "Queue-skipping" tour as these sites can be very busy and a lot of time can be spent queuing. Ten out of ten!

Our tour was arranged with Avanti Tours. We were given an in depth tour with only 2 other couples. Our guide was passionate about the subject and really brought the ruins to life.
Sometimes the guide tries to be the tour, as in they think they are the entertainment. Our guide was smart professional and very patient with our questions. She let the subject be the tour. It was like a great documentary come to life.
If you book this tour thru Avanti/Sireon ask for Valentina!

What access is included at the Colosseum with this tour? Floor access? Underground or upper tier access available? My wife and I will be traveling in February.

Depending on what they are working on we had access to all levels. Floor and underground guided, upper levels free to roam those areas not barred.

We have someone in our party with chronic lung disease who is unable to walk long distances. Would this tour be suitable for them?

Chronic lung disease end stage? No. At the beginning of disease? Maybe. Best bet would be to pick one and do that....not this one with all of the walking involved. Theres too many destinations with this one. And, from what I've read-the colleseum has a lot of stairs which would exacerbate them quickly. Do the forum one day and the Vatican museum the next day.
