- MEETING POINT: Arch of Costantine, side of the Colosseum. You will meet our staff that will hold a big black flag saying "Ancient and Recent - Virtual Reality Tour - Meeting point" on it.
- Please provide the full names of all travelers when booking. Failure to present a voucher with all travelers' full names at the ticket office prior to entry may result in denied entry to the Colosseum and Roman Forum.
- This option provides you virtual reality experience of the Colosseum, guided tour of the Colosseum with fast entrance and access to Palatine Hill/Roman Forum. THERE IS NO GUIDED TOUR OF PALATINE HILL/ROMAN FORUM. After the guided tour of the Colosseum, you will be escorted at the entrance of the Palatine Hill/Roman Forum, where you can visit both sites by yourself.
- The virtual reality experience has a specific departure time: if you arrive late for the meeting point, it will not be possible to join the group or reschedule, unless you pay for the activity again. As per no-show rules, you will not be entitled to a refund.
- It is not possible to bring inside the Colosseum any kind of 3D device: for this reason, the virtual experience takes place outside the monument before entering.
- The Colosseum requires mandatory entry procedures (show children/under 18 to the staff, voucher exchange) and mandatory security check that must be carried out even by the skip-the-line ticket holders. This could require to wait a little more before entering the monument, as this part cannot be skipped.
- The Colosseum’s capacity regulations (no more than 3000 people inside at the same time) may delay the tour departure. This could also influence the smooth running of the tour especially on national holidays, weekends and during high season. So, even the skip-the-line queue may be not as fast as usual.ot responsible for any inconvenience caused by the closure of the Colosseum and Roman Forum due to strikes, bad weather etc.
- Children/under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must carry passports or a valid identity document, because the Colosseum staff may ask to check them at the entrance.

- Please wear comfortable shoes and bring your own bottle of water (no glass bottles/no alcohol).

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- alphajlv0 contributionsMax made it a FUN tour! A must do !Amazing tour, request Max ! He was very fun & knowledgeable. One of the highlights of my trip! A should not miss Rome is so beautiful lit at night and Max informs you of all of the history in a very fun and informative way.Written September 18, 2024
- Casey W0 contributionsBought a ticket but it never appearedI bought a ticket through TripAdvisor/Viator to see the Vatican and the Sistine chapel. When we got there to pick it up, they had no evidence of us even booking/a ticket even though I had paid and received a confirmation number. The staff there tried very hard to find it-calling the office etc. They even tried to figure out a way for us to get tickets as this was our last day in Rome. There were no tickets available. They told us our only option was to go back in the ticket line (long) and hope to buy another ticket, and then get back in the line we were in. Successfully negating the fact of the skip the line ticket I had purchased. Needless to say, they thankfully refunded our ticket. BUT I did NOT get to see the Vatican. Ruining that experience. The staff, atleast tried their best to accommodate. But someone dropped the ball. Badly. If you book, apparently book through them. Not through TripAdvisor. Because you may not get your ticket and your experience will be ruined like mine.Written September 17, 2024

- Darren R0 contributionsThe tour of the coliseum was incredible but picking up our tickets was quite stressfulOnce we received our tickets our experience was great. The stressful part was meeting the person who was giving us our tickets. Very difficult to find and we weren’t the only ones complaining about this. We were told to go to the person holding the black flag (the area around the coliseum is quite busy and the black flag was kept on the floor) it took over 20 mins to actually find the person who gave us our physical ticket.Written September 2, 2024
- Jennifer R0 contributionsGreat time. Great pics.Max did a wonderful job showing us around the city. It was fast and the way to do it since it was so hot!!! I did tip him on the app and in cash and Max said he doesn't get the tip online.Written August 31, 2024
- richardlO8734QR0 contributionsNot good at allNever got to see it as the communication and instruction was so poor we missed our time slot needs a much more thought out meeting system in such a busy place with poor receptionWritten August 28, 2024
- Richard L0 contributionsNon existentLack of cohesive instructions late texts and poor follow up meant we missed our time slot for the coliseum, doubt whether we would use you again. Very disappointedWritten August 21, 2024
- B5085UCmartinn0 contributionsGood experience.Ticket collection was late but the experience of walking around Colosseum and at own pace was great. Audio Guide app was ok but could be have more accurate location points.Written August 21, 2024
- tronicias0 contributionsStraightforwardGot our tickets and went straight in. Don't expect a tour guide. This was a package to just get tickets To get into the Colosseum and ruins grounds across the street.Written August 14, 2024
- canadatraveller310 contributionsWaste of moneyWe're not happy at all for the following reasons: 1. The google pin that was sent for the meeting spot was different than where the tour contact showed up 2. The tour contact showed up about 10 minutes before the ticket entry time. A lot of people who bought the same tickets felt lost looking for the tour contact. I expected that the tour contact will be in the meeting spot way earlier than 10 minutes prior just like all other tour contacts that were there early and with clear/visible flags! 3. Our tour was skip the line and includes the roman forum & palatine hill, however, immediately after the colosseum tour we found out that we will have to line up again separately for the roman forum & palatine hill since the location is across the road. When we got there, there was a separate long line-up that was probably at least 45 minutes long easy under the 39 degree celcius but sadly our tour contact already left after giving us the colosseum tickets so we ended up not doing the roman forum & palatine hill which was really annoying and a waste of money!!!Written August 12, 2024
- ELAFGANO0 contributionsDon’t book anything with this agency. They are rude and unfair and only care about taking your money.Booked a tour with them to see the coliseum. Paid for the tour and received a ticket and confirmation. 3 days before the tour they texted me on WhatsApp demanding that I change my tour time from 10am to 12:15pm. I explained to them that I have my father who is 70 years old and my children with me and we will not be able to tolerate the mid day heat, hence the reason for booking an earlier tour. Furthermore, we had other reservations later in the day that were not cancelable. I was very polite and let them know that we have saved up for a long time to visit Rome and have very few days to see everything. The supposed “supervisor” did not sympathize or care and while I was speaking with my family and trying to figure out how we can modify our plans he sent us a message notifying us that he already canceled our reservation. My 10 and 12 year old kids were devastated and we had to scramble to find another tour/ticket which by the way cost us almost double the original amount because we are so close to our travel dates and it is the busy season. They have a strict cancelation policy where they will charge you if you try to cancel, yet, they can cancel at will. Save yourself some hassle and time and make sure you don’t do business with these people. All they care about is their bottom line and profits. Their website states that customer service is their number one priority yet they proved that is not the case.Written August 4, 2024
- 628maxinek0 contributionsWorth the money to skip the queue in the heat!I have always been pretty sceptical about 'skip the queue' experiences but I left it too late to book regular tickets online so gave it a go. I found my guide Cristina very easily with her instructions and she led me into the museum right at opening time. It took about 15 mins from meeting her to being in the museum. She also shared a bit of history and local knowledge, and gave some handy tips for my visit to the Vatican. Honestly, if you have the money to skip the queue in summer, I would 100% recommend. I arrived at about 7.45am and the queue was already several hundred people long, with no shade in already 30+ degree heat. Would definitely do this again.Written July 30, 2024
- leegF2476UO0 contributionsPoor serviceThe vendor we used was supposed to meet us and they never did so really the extra money was just a waste because they text the tickets to us and we still had to stay in line to get the kid tickets for free Waste of time and money to use theseWritten July 17, 2024
- 513katharines0 contributionsGets you in the doorReally buying these basically just gets your tickets and access into the colosseum through a smaller section. The app is provided by the colosseum for anyone. So if you’re trying to save some money and don’t mind waiting in line I would just secure a ticket for myself and use the colosseum app. But if you want to go though the group entrance it’s worth it.Written July 15, 2024
- rufusew0 contributionsNot Customer FriendlyThis company is not customer friendly. I requested to make a time change on the same day. They would not do it. They told me that I made my plans to far in advanceWritten July 12, 2024

This interactive tour with Christina and Marco was totally engaging. To make it even better we ended up being the only ones on the tour so had our own private tour. Christina was very patient with me when I struggled with the wonders of technology due to my glasses but it was worth it in the end. The experience brought ancient Rome to life. Highly recommend.

I would not recommend booking your Colosseum tour with Ancient & Recent.
Unprofessional, rude, and messed up our ticket timing.
Give another tour operator your money.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, FIND AN ALTERNATIVE. I brought my two children to Rome so they could experience the colosium. We arrived at the meeting point (which wasn't the address given). I showed the lady my confirmation and QR code. I asked for our tickets to the colosium and they didn't have them. They said "we have not added my booking to the system in the office". This wasn't an issue to them though as they gave me someone else's ticket. When I tried to get in the security asked for ID and didn't allow me access. I flew in from Edinburgh UK to see the colosium and we couldn't see it. They then issued a refund saying it was down to an unexpected closure. Please see attached images as this was just a lie. My kids travelled all the way home and missed one of the only things we came to see.

Tour really suggested.
The VR help you to understand exactly where you are standing, and bring back alive stones that otherwise cannot show them magnificence so well

We met Christina at the meeting point and she greeted us with a great smile. From that moment on she really made sure that we had the best experience possible. The VR googles were fun, it felt like we were playing a video game. The tour was great..our guide had a lot of knowledge about The Colosseum and enjoyed sharing it. I would definitely recommend this tour!!!

So glad I booked this tour. It was a baking hot day in Rome. Both guides were very friendly and passionate about Rome and the Colosseum. Good English too. I booked this tour for our boys 11 & 13 yrs but my husband and I loved the virtual reality aspect just as much as them. Perfect way to fully understand the incredible site before entering it. Walking straight to the front past all those baking in line was a huge bonus too. Thanks Cristina!

We loved the new virtual reality experience.
Standing right by the Colosseum & Roman Forum and being able to see the instant contrast between ancient Rome and the remains of today makes this tour amazing.
The devices worked well and the provided information through the audio guide is sharp and very interesting. I imagine this as a great experience for kids too.
Our tour leader Ruben was nice and helpful!

Est-ce que la visite donne accès à l’arène du Colisée? Sinon quelles sont les étages où il est permis d’allet durant la visite? Merci
