- goodf83700Simply amazingSimply amazing! What made it better was the knowledge of our guide - Francesca. Friendly, helpful and loved answering questions. She made this tour great.
- 921sunnyd00Amazing guide that made the experienceAmazing tour, made so by Alejandro who was the best guide. Very informative, entertaining and engaging. Without his stories and descriptions, the experience of simply visiting the Colloseum would not have been the same. Cannot recommend him enough. If you are going to book a tour let it be with these guys.
- NickO18700A must when visiting RomeThe tour was very interesting and the tour guide Dennis knew his stuff, he was really friendly and helpful if you had any questions, a born and bread local with lots of knowledge. I learned some new facts about the Romans and Rome itself. This tour is a must if you are visiting Rome. The tour lasts about 3 hours. Upon entering the colloseium through the gladiator entrance Is a really good experience and one to tick off the bucket list. Thankyou.
- K8850KDnicks00Great tourGreat tour, tour guide was very friendly and helpful. Would recommend to others who are visiting Rome.
- vivienp33700Really interesting and informative tourLaura was an excellent guide - enthusiastic and knowledgeable and clearly loves the history of Rome. We would heartily recommend booking this tour - and November was a good time to visit with fewer people. Still busy, but not packed and we had space to look around the Forum and Colesseum without being jostled and herded.
- Compass20800worth the costWonderful learning experience. Giorgio was great. It was worthwhile to have a guide lead us through the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hills.
- cmc71600Perfect Coliseum TourThe tour was amazing. Our guide was knowledgeable, entertaining, and thoughtful. She took time to give us great information but kept the tour moving. I highly recommend it.
- ainos21300Colosseum and the Roman Forum brought to lifeFlavia guided us to the arena of the amphitheatre, painted a vivid picture of it in operation before our very eyes, walked us through the structure to appreciate both architecture, technology and ingenuity of the ancient Romans and their emperors, also dispelling some myths built by the movie industry. Her dedication and expertise were impressive, and all of the tour was delivered with such positive air and flair we could have happily started the tour again with her right after!
- Discover75293600I highly recommend this tour.It was definitely worth paying to skip the crowd for the Colosseum + tour. Our enthusiastic guide, Alexander (I believe), was crazy knowledgeable and very adept at leading us away from people so we could hear his interesting stories and get the best views. So many anecdotes—he brought the gladiators to life for us. The Colosseum portion with Gladiator entrance was my favorite part of the tour. You could spend more than a week touring this the ancient Rome area to do it any justice.
- Jules9406200The history of RomeVery knowledgeable guide. She did a great job weaving the history into her explanations of what we were seeing. Fascinating history.

Our guide, Claudia, was a wealth of knowledge, very friendly & it she did a great job of explaining all of the interesting information about the Colosseum, Palantine Hill and some of the other history of Italy. Entering through the arena was very cool & there was plenty of room & opportunities to take photos. The site overall is very crowded but Claudia did a great job keeping track of our group & moving us along with ample time for photos. Tour with Claudia is highly recommended.

I have been on many tours of the Coliseum, but Pietro Paolo of Italian Wonders’ tour was by far the best. I went on this tour, after a cruise, with 9 friends ranging in age from 30 to 80 who had wildly divergent interests. Pietro is such a skillful tour guide he structured the tour to appeal to each of us. He entertained us while he was educating us about Ancient Rome. His anecdotes were amazing. All of us thought it was a great tour.
What impressed me most was how Pietro dealt with the sudden and dramatic change in the weather and the resulting delay. It was very sunny and hot when we entered the Coliseum. Without warning, it turned very dark and started to pour. Pietro led us inside and continued telling us about how different emperors used the Coliseum while the rain was leaking through the roof. The stairs flooded and some people panicked. Pietro immediately started telling us about the time the Coliseum was filled with water to recreate a naval battle. He was such a good storyteller, we forgot that we were getting drenched. At that point, the tour office called Pietro and asked him to find some guests on another tour that got separated from their guide. Before he went looking for them, he asked us a series question, which he answered when he returned. It was a great way to keep us amused. When he returned, he resumed his narrative. At which point, it started to hail. His stories became more animated to drown out the sound of balls of ice bouncing off the roof. Due to the weather, the tour lasted an hour longer than scheduled. Pietro filled the extra time with more information. He ensured that we had a better tour because of the weather rather than being irritated by it.
After the Coliseum, Pietro was supposed to lead part of the group on a tour of the Vatican. Because of the weather delay, he was not sure they would reach the Vatican before it closed. While his office was checking on that tour, Pietro was devising an alternative tour. When he found out that they could still have their tour, he managed to seem as delighted as his guests even though it clearly meant that he had to work overtime. My friends and I wished we had booked the Vatican tour too as Pietro was such a great guide.
I have recommended to several friends that they book Italian Wonders’ Coliseum and Vatican tour, they take both parts of the tour, and that they insist on having Pietro Paolo as their guide.

We loved our tour! It was easy to find the meeting area and they organized all the different tour groups. Our guide, Elida, was very nice, spoke great English, and kept the tour interesting and fun. It was VERY hot out, so she made an effort to keep us in the shade and point out all the areas to get water for our water bottles. She also stopped to allow us all to get the photos we wanted. We were initially only doing the Colosseum portion of the tour but we liked it so much we stayed for Palatine Hill/Roman Forum and just returned with her to the office to pay the extra portion.

It's well worth skipping the lines. Giorgio was very knowledgeable and was great at getting a large group - of all ages - involved in his explanation of the history of this unique place. You won't have nearly as good of an experience with self-guided tour to the Colosseum.

This tour was extremely informative. I learned many things I didn't know before and it was really a skip-the-line tour. I can't recall our tour guides name, but she was excited about history. She later revealed she's a historian. Overall, great value for the money.
Lastly, we were late and thought they were going to leave us, they called and waited. I was grateful. We were lost and it took a little longer to get to the starting point.

Francesca was extremely informative and passionate about the history of the Colosseum and of Rome, which made the tour very enjoyable. Though this does say small tour, it was full with a max of 24 people. It was interesting to be able to see and get entrance to the arena floor. Be mindful that this tour leads on to continue at the Palatine Hill and Roman Forums which is an extra cost (you will have to leave the group upon exiting the Colosseum if you only booked the express tour) and we didn't know that - though she did mention that the tour had ended for the express ticket holders, we still mistakenly continued and had to pay a small price for the rest of the tour. Regardless, the Palatine Hill and roman Forums aspect was also very interesting and informative, the entire tour totalling to over 3h. Highly recommend a tour in the low season because these attractions were still quite busy.

Title really says it all! Firstly finding the meeting point for the tour was really easy, Rome is busy, particularly around the colosseum so somewhere you can easily locate is a plus. Our guide Annalise was amazing, so knowledgeable and brought it to life! The tour moved at just the right pace for us, with opportunities to take pictures and ask questions if you wanted. No waiting in a queue due to carefully timed entry to both sites. A short toilet stop between the two, in the nicer facilities- inside knowledge from our guide. We really only wanted to see the colosseum, but l left it late to book and this was the only way I could find to go in through the gladiators entrance onto the arena floor. I was so glad I did - Palantine Hill and the Forum were fascinating really pleased we didn’t miss them. Thank you for a well organised tour - the 3 hours flew by!

I just want to personally thank Dennis and Nasir (and all the staff at Italy Wonders) for the best tour of our lives. The Roman Gods were smiling on us when Nasir approached us on the street to explain how entrance to the colosseum works. I immediately trusted him (I was initially quite cautious) as he was extremely knowledgable and pointed out that lining up would take quite a bit of time. At that stage, I was sold. I would have been happy to pay their small fee just to skip the queue. So the tour was just an extra. And oh boy, did it exceed all expectations. Dennis was the whole package. Genuine, caring, thoughtful, knowledgeable (across art, history, science etc...im still in awe) and just fantastic. My family want to thank you for sharing this piece of Rome with us. We'll remember it for the rest of our lives. To anyone considering a tour, look no further.

We met Enzo at Rome's tourist office, just accross the Colosseum and he offered us a great tour. One hour later, we were walking in a small group with Diego and listening to his speach without limits. It took just a short while to get in the Collosseum and the experience was overwhelming. We heard all about the creation and (partly) fall of the Collosseum, the creation of the Roman Emperor's buildings and lots and lots more.
It was a great experience and we're glad that we have done the visit with guide.
Thanks!

No idea except you probably have a longer queue to gain entry and no guided tour, but if you’re happy to wait and just wander unguided then probably no problem. This tour is fully guided and skip the line entry which justifies the cost

I don't think so. When we went on our tour, one couple had a baby with them and brought an umbrella. They left after the Colosseum because it was just too hot for the baby, just an fyi if you want to only purchase one portion of the tour and skip the forum and palatine hill (way less shade in those places).

It did when we purchased it last autumn although it wasn’t clear in the summary and we thought we had only purchased a collosium tour, but it continued with a tour of the forum and palatine hill as well - so took longer than the guidelines said - hope that helps

Hi traveller
There are various tours of the Colosseum from which to choose from. The tours can be in and around or you can decide once you get there, they are all very interesting. You will no doubt be told that most of the statues etc are now in the Vatican when the Vatican was being built and many of the surrounding buildings are in fact made from masonry "borrowed" from the Colosseum many years ago, that again includes the Vatican.
