We’re so glad we did this tour, we learnt so much more than we would’ve done alone as there isn’t much signage at the sites for people who aren’t in a tour group. Our guide Matteo was really lovely and knowledgeable, there were so many parts of the site that he was able to explain the historical importance of and it really brought it alive for us. He also spoke about the links of the sites to modern day Rome, and also spoke to us about the city in general which was great for us as we’ve never been before. We didn’t actually go down into the Roman forum which I thought was included on the trip but that may have been my misunderstanding. We did get a very good view of it from the palatine hill though so I don’t feel like we missed out. Our tour was over three hours so we thought this was great value for money. We would recommend bringing some food on the tour as there isn’t anywhere to buy food at the sites and we didn’t think to bring anything with us! Overall a briliant tour and we’d absolutely recommend to anyone else going to Rome.

My husband, mother and I LOVED the tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Arian (Arjan?) was fabulous and so incredibly knowledgeable. The team at Crown Tours were so helpful and amazingly supportive - I accidentally booked the wrong date (the date prior to our arrival in Rome!) and I thought we were going to miss out. The team at Crown were so helpful - doing everything they could to ensure that we got what we paid for. I recommend booking directly through Crown Tours and definitely NOT through 'Get your Guide' who were ruthless and didn't care that I had made a mistake with the dates and told me it was against their policy to reschedule as I had missed the window to make any changes - even though I had paid $300 AUD, as far as they were concerned they got paid and didn't care that my money was down the drain. Thank goodness for the empathy and kindness of Crown Tours or else my lifelong dream of seeing the Colosseum would never have been fulfilled.

We were late for the tour we had booked and Crown Tours were really understanding and helpful. They offered us a few options and we chose to join an upcoming guided tour for some extra euros. We were delighted that we made this choice!
We were guided round these magnificent ancient sites by Eleanor. She was incredibly knowledgable and also told some funny stories - she really brought Ancient Rome to life!

Our guide was a very nice guy and clearly had a lot of knowledge about these areas. But there are several things I didn’t enjoy about his way of conducting the tour. One, his English was not great. I understood about two out of every three words he said and that was with a microphone and earpiece. If that was the only issue I could live with it but it wasn’t. He constantly went off on tangents about things unrelated to what we were on the tour for. He also carried with him a book that showed what the Colleseum looked like back when it was in use. Instead of using the book as a quick illustrator of the point he was making and using it sparingly, we were all standing around him like he was reading us a bedtime story and he would then hold the book up and insist everyone take a look at it. When it became clear some people were bored by this and got on their phones he would make sarcastic comments to those people about them being on their phones. I’m sorry but we are paying YOU for a tour and as a paying customer if I want to be on my phone you should just keep doing your job and maybe take it as a sign that your presentation is not enjoyable. The other issue was length of time the tour took. The tour was advertised as 2-3 hours and we were supposed to see the Colleseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. It took 2 hours just to get through the Colleseum and by the time we walked to Roman Forum we were 2 and a half hours into the tour. He said well you can go off on your own in a little bit and I got the sense we just ran out of time so he was improvising. Like I said earlier it was clear he had a lot of knowledge about the topics but he needs to do a better job of hitting the high points, keeping things moving, and stop just showing us a book that I can buy off Amazon and look at when I’m home and not literally standing inside the Colleseum that I’ve traveled several thousand miles to see.

Had our Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and Colosseum tour today (21st March, 10:50am) with Alexandro (Not sure if I got that spelling right and have included a photo so he gets the feedback).

This guy went out of his way to be helpful, lifted someone's buggy/stroller down stairs all the way from the top of the hill to exiting to go to the Colosseum, to taking the time at the end to chat about places to eat and other sites that might be good during our stay and answer tour questions throughout.

Thoroughly enjoyed this tour as he was engaging, told us some great history (architecture, people, timelines and what would happen in a day at the Colosseum), and also let us have 5/10mins at certain points to take photos and rest. For us this was great, I've got some of the best photos and ones I never thought I'd get.

Being given a guided tour by someone you've never met can be tricky as you don't know if you're going to have the same sense of humour etc, but for us this worked perfectly. Honestly loved how caring he was too, there were some people with really bad footwear, someone who wandered off, someone who had a medical condition and he got on and sorted everything. He even got a round of applause at the end of the tour.

What a star as I imagine this sort of job is like herding cats sometimes. We came away with knowledge that kept us chatting all the way through lunch and back to our hotel.

Crown Tours themselves seemed organised and efficient, getting us checked in at the start and making sure we had the right equipment.

Thank you for a memorable tour.

Maite was our guide and with 26 years experience her knowledge was extensive. Her ‘warts and all’ presentation style very informative, engaging and amusing. She usually does the Vatican tours, so we were fortunate to get her.
Only criticism is that we booked the ‘small group’ tour in English which was supposed to be a max group of 10, but there were actually 14 of us. Wasn’t really an issue but nevertheless shouldn’t be advertised as such then overbooked.

The tour was fine. A bit dry and a lot of walking (we covered 3 miles) and slanted stairs, definitely consider whether this level of physical activity is appropriate for your group and abilities. We booked this tour to see the Colosseum and thought the Forum and Palatine Hill would be neat extras, but we ended up spending less than a third of our time at the Colosseum. Our guide was definitely excited about the topic and kept wanting to show us more of the surrounding areas, so it wasn't bad per se, just not aligned with our expectations. Also recommend you bring earbuds of your own as the ones this tour group provides kept falling out of our ears.

Wonderful tour, our guide was clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about the history of the colosseum and Rome, and we had a fantastic time learning about it. She was also very funny, and the tour had a perfect balance of sincerity and laughs.
My partner had a large nosebleed before the tour and the staff were very attentive and happy to help, and frequently checked up on him throughout the day which was much appreciated by us both.
Tour felt very personal, the guide took the time to ask us all questions to get to know us.
Overall, 10/10 tour and I recommend everyone books to get the most out of the colosseum and surrounding area!

The ability to skip the line was great and the organisation with radios and flag was good as there was so many people when I was there it was easy to get lost. It’s worth doing just for the convenience. I was however disappointed with the tour as the guide spoke in a fast, heavily accented monotone and I could not follow most of what she was saying (I am a native English speaker). I had to look up a lot on google afterwards. I understand that I am in a non-English speaking country and her accent is not her fault, but I think someone joining who spoke English as a second language may not have got their moneys worth. Recommend less information but spoken slowly and clearly into the microphone for all people to understand. The tour was also advertised as 2.5-3 hours but she finished at 2hrs (most people had dropped off) and I explored Palatine hill and the Roman forum floor by myself.

Worst tour (booking code: RDWPRJT).

We were 34 (!) people -- more than what is advertised and way too much for a tour.
The tour was advertised for 3 hours; it lasted 2h30, of which the first 45min were spent on organizing and counting people.

Throughout, our guide (Claudia), when not organizing and counting people, was making idle chatter and complaining about the weather. Even though this tour includes the Roman Forum she refused to do it: the tour consisted in pointing to the Roman Forum and stating that we could explore it later. There were several inaccuracies in her explanations: Julius Caesar was not the "last senator", and some strange comments that suggested slaves were less deserving people.
The guide was ill-prepared and lazy.

This was not particularly cheap and completely ruined what should be a momentous experience given the amount of history that happened in this small area.
A complete waste of time and money: you are better served by downloading a random guide on your phone and using it.
That's what we did to try to salvage the experience.
