About
The Vatican Museums are among the most crowded in the world, sometimes having as many 20,000 visitors in a day. On this tour, see the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica (note: the Basilica is closed to the public on Wednesdays) in the relative peace of early morning, entering the museums well before they are open to the public—when you enter the Sistine Chapel, it is mostly empty. A small-group size means plenty of personal attention.

What to expect
Your early morning tour begins at the main entrance to the Vatican Museums. Meet your guide and small group and enter the museums. Walk through the main galleries, including the Room of the Candelabra, Hall of Tapestries, and Gallery of the Maps. Before reaching the Sistine Chapel, receive a reference map you can use once inside, a useful resource since visitors to the chapel are expected to be silent as they observe Michelangelo’s masterpieces. After exiting the chapel from a side door head straight to St. Peter’s Basilica, skipping the lines. Your guide takes you to see the baroque Baldacchino, La Pieta, and other masterworks. The last stop is underneath the main floor of the basilica, where hundreds of Popes are buried. Finish the tour in front of the Basilica.

We went to the meeting spot and saw about 30 other people waiting for the same tour. No tour guide came. Then we realized an email was sent at 8:05 am stating that the tour was canceled!!! They stated that it would go at 2:30. We still are not sure if that will happen. Very very disappointed!

Ciao Carolyn! Thank you for booking with us and for taking the time to leave your feedback. I am sorry to hear this was your experience as it sounds absolutely out of the ordinary and not like our typical operations. Guides have been getting Coivd a lot lately due to their customer-facing role, however, we always try to give our travelers enough possible notice in the rare event of a change. We'd love to get in touch with you to find out more and get this resolved. Please reach out to us directly as soon as you can.

The instructions on the meeting point were very clear and easy to find. Gaia led our tour group of 10 pax and she was very knowledgeable and provided some visual aids for explanation. There was quite a bit of talking at the courtyard in the beginning of the tour and my kids got a little restless but I found the session very informative. It’s my second time at the Vatican (first time in 2015) but going on a tour enhanced the experience of my visit. The early morning tour avoided the heat and big crowds too. Highly recommended!

Having the unique experience of walking through history is exciting and wonderful. By looking at the splendid and magnificent sculptures and paintings one can not help glorifying the artists who made these masterpieces. I do recommend to take a tour guide to move around the area. Do not forget to look up, down and side ways once you step forward through the aisles. You are surrounded by dazzling beauties!

The company and the tour guide, Maria, were absolutely fantastic!

We booked the 8AM tour thinking it would enter the Vatican right at 8AM when it opens, but we didn't enter until 8:30AM, and it was already packed!

Maria ensured we could all hear her and find spots to chat about the different things we were going to see. Very informative and breathtaking pieces of art throughout!

I would highly recommend this tour/company, as long as you pick the very early option, the first time slot!
